Want to kill bamboo so it never comes back? Use this stump cut and treatment method using a tree killing herbicide. Learn how in my video! Make a fresh cut of the bamboo stalk close to the ground and then treat the fresh cut with an herbicide labeled for brush and trees. Look for the active ingredient Triclopyr. You can also use Round-Up at 100% if its labeled for that. Paint the stump using a stick or paintbrush so its coated and hopefully it won't come back. You have to do this to each bamboo stalk. Just killing one won't make the rest of them die. This isn't organic but is a sustainable way to kill bamboo so you don't have to repetitively cut it year after year. #bamboo #herbicide

Triclopyr won't kill bamboo... bamboo is a type of grass meaning it is a monocot. Triclopyr is a selective herbicide thats only effective on dicots... (I.E. it only works on woody broadleaf plants, not grasses). You want a non-selective herbicide. Glyphosphate (aka round-up) applied via the same cut stem application method will kill bamboo. An even better option if there are no desirable planets near the bamboo is to use imazapyr (also via the cut stem application method). Do not use imazapyr if there are other plants nearby that you do not want to kill. Imazapyr has significant soil activity (ie it can be absorbed via the root system) and is mobile in the soil so it will harm other desirable plants whose root system extends into the application area. Glyphosphate is only active foliarly and is not absorbed via the root system so it can be used if desirable plants are nearby as long as you don't let any get on the leaves of those desirable plants.

I read through the comments specifically for this. Not only will Triclopyr not work for bamboo, she's not wearing PPE and doesn't have any sort of containment for that open container of herbicide. I do however appreciate that the woman is attempting to kill bamboo and that she is using the cut and wipe method.

Great comment Curt! Im going to have to switch to round up and do another video. The triclopry does seem to work and slow it down, without killing the whole stand. Thanks for your comment, I learned something.

What would be the best and easiest way to get rid of a 10x10 area of bamboo? Previous owners planted it and it is way out of control. I cannot sit and cut and paint each one there is way too much.

If you’d prefer to keep these herbicides in a closed application system I’d suggest getting those crafting glue bottles sold in craft stores or online. They’re similar to the liquid shoe polish bottles. Simply fill the bottle with herbicide then daub it onto your fresh cut bamboo or tree stump.

Yes any time of year is good. And repeat treatments is needed. From the ten bamboo stalks I cut down one of them resprouted so I cut it and treated it again. If you get them while they are young there will be less biomass to deal with.

Will this work for running arrow bamboo? We have a ton of it in our yard and i pulled out as many rhizomes as i could but there are random shoots popping up all over and now from under the sides of the concrete walkways
@TiaSilvasy
@TiaSilvasy 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it will work for running bamboo. As soon as the shoots are about 4" tall cut them to the ground with a sawzall or loppers and treat the fresh cut stump with the herbicide. Keep retreating all new shoots and eventually you will be able to manage the bamboo and work towards eradication.

Great video! Really good responses from viewers. Here is what has proven effective here in the Pacific Northwest. This is just a suggestion based on testing I've done myself. Those Florida bamboo are probably tougher than what we have up here. :) IF you need to use Herbicide then BE PRECISE. This is why I'm providing exact amounts. 6mls per cane of Ecomazapyr 2 SL (Imazapyr for Aquatic use) OR 6mls per cane of a 41% Glyphosate at Concentrate Solution In most states you are going to be limited to a per acre amount of herbicide you can use per year. Please check your labels for this amount for the species you are going after. This is just enough to kill most types of large invasive grasses and see no regrowth. Imazapyr is as effective than glyphosate, perhaps more, but will kill other plants whose roots are close. Less will not be effective and bamboo will regrow. More is a waste and a risk. Dumping it or squirting it has spill and non-target species risks (including you) so wear protective gear. I suggest drill a hole above the first or second node of the cane above the roots. Why? Higher up the stem than this and the herbicide does not seem to effectively translocate into the roots. If you are doing less than a few clumps a regular syringe and electric drill can work just fine with a bit of patience. I suggest a 1/32 or larger (for air dispersal and filling room) drill bit. Good hunting -Brian

I have a nightmare scenario. I definitely need poison as it’s grown under my slab and into my concrete block. I live in south Florida and it grows like crazy here. Previous homeowner didn’t pick the right type, got the kind that spreads like wildfire. It’s gonna be a few weekends of hard labor to deal with this and I will be spraying all around the side of the house also.
