How to Kill Bed Bugs Using Baking Soda | The Guardians Choice

Uh oh… you just found a bed bug. You probably trapped it and started looking around your pantry for something to kill it… baking soda? Can you use this simple household chemical to kill the bug? Will baking soda work to protect from a bed bug infestation?
While there isn’t any research into the topic I can find, I would not recommend using baking soda to try to kill a bed bug. There are more effective methods I will share with greater detail, but freezing the bug or killing it with heat will be much faster and more effective than trying to use baking soda to kill a bed bug.

I'd like to tell you what I did, and how it worked. First vacuumed whole room from top to floor, including chears, table, whole bed and madras then wash pillow and blankets and all the dirty clothes, then I made a sprey 4 tea spoons of soda and few drops of lavande oil in half litre of water. Then I spray it on wooden part of bad and dry it with a cloth, spry all the little wholes on the walls. Wash the floor, when it dry sprincal soda pauder in korners and under the bad, specially around bed legs and under the madras, after a week period wacume room, put soda pauder again, sprey on the walls and around the room and bad bugs are gone. I will repeat it for few weeks to be sure they are gone. It worked. I would ad something if bad bugs infested madras then maybe it would be the best to change it or to clean it very well.

That sounds funny, but it isn't when you're the sacrifice. I surrounded my mattress with a very thin application of food grade diatomaceous earth to make a bed bug trap. I was the sacrifice or bait in the center of the bed to lure the bugs to walk across the powder. It was not fun, but it worked like magic. I knew the bed bugs would leave their hiding places and come to me because I was their only food source. If they couldn't bite at night, they would nail me during the day. I gritted my teeth and pretended to be a sniper soldier in the bed bug war or the Pied Piper luring them to their death. I was surprised when there were no more bites after about a week. Each night some of the bed bugs had walked across the powder to have the last meal of their lives before returning to their hiding places where they dried up and died. I knew bed bug EGGS are not destroyed by pesticides or DE and they can hatch several weeks after all the bed bugs are dead, so I continued to sleep inside the trap at night for more than a month, even though there were no more bites, to make sure all the bed bugs, including any tiny new ones, were history. I didn't have a sofa or easy chairs. They would have been treated too. Very soon there were no more bed bugs in the house. They had done most of the work of killing themselves while I slept. Now if I had bed bugs, I might buy a small BED BUG OR MOSQUITO TENT to sleep inside and put it on top of my bed. The bugs wouldn't be able to get inside to bite me. The bed bugs would be attracted to me at night and walk onto the bed in an attempt to feed. The thinly applied food grade Diatomaceous earth on the bed all around the tent would cling to their bodies, and kill them later.

I've been using a combo of Baking Soda (It can be found at any grocery store) and DE (Diatomaceous Earth - you can find that at the hardware store.) That seems to do the trick. Of course, keeping up with cleaning it off and reapplying every week does the trick. Another good way is to use Say Bye Bugs spray for bedbugs. I tried that and it works great!

It works for now. 4 more days till I throw out everything. I had a couple of bugs in my apartment once I moved into a room there was about 20.. I thought it would just die off.

@@Nelson-kj4pk dry, on the edges of sheets, under the madraces, onder the bed, around bed legs, not large quantetes, of corse everything shuld be clean and vacumed before you put soda. Repeat every one or two weeks and they vont bitte you from day one, I repeat it for few monts to be shore they are gone.

Diatomaceous earth is how you spell it. It’s the ancient shells of diatoms that accumulated on sea floors and its powdered and marketed as a safe way to control insects in the garden and elsewhere. In your home, you want to use food grade diatomaceous earth.

@@Cyallaire You're right about using the food grade form of diatomaceous earth. People need to know, tho, that it is harmful.....the dust can enter your lungs or your pet's lungs, causing micro cuts.
