Baking soda can be used to kill Rodents.
Given its low price, lack of toxicity, and easy availability, baking soda may seem like the perfect weapon against rodents.
Baking soda AKA sodium bicarbonate kills rats and mice when they ingest it. This is because, when the baking soda hits their stomachs, it begins to produce large quantities of gas. As mice can’t pass wind, they have no way to release the gas and the internal pressure can eventually kill them.
Because baking soda is relatively safe and far less toxic to humans and other animals than poison baits it’s a popular method.
However, the baking soda method is not without its downsides.
Rodents have to consume quite a lot of baking powder for it to kill them, which is a lot more than commercial poisons. It is also not a humane way to kill mice, as the internal pressure from the build-up of gas can be very painful and cause unnecessary suffering.
However if you wish to make your own baking soda poison powder and get the rodents to eat it in sufficient quantities, it is easy to do.
You will need
• 1 cup of Flour that acts as the binder
• 1 cup of Sugar - which is the attractive part for the rodent
• 1 cup of Baking soda which is the loaded gun
First, combine one cup of flour with one cup of sugar and mix it well. The sugar will attract mice and tempt them into eating the bait. Next, add a cup of baking soda and combine thoroughly. Finally, sprinkle the powder in areas with signs of rodent activity - for example, along skirting boards, near garbage cans, or around potential entry and exit points.
If you’d rather not use a messy powder, peanut butter bait can also convince your mice to eat baking powder. To make a peanut butter bait, you’ll need:
• 1 cup of Baking soda
• 1 cup of Peanut butter
Combine the peanut butter and the baking soda, making sure they are mixed together well. Next, shape the bait into balls and place them in areas with high levels of rodent activity.
Make sure to put on a pair of protective gloves before mixing up your mouse poison. Baking soda isn’t toxic and won’t irritate your skin, but if your scent transfers to the bait, mice will be less likely to eat it.
It’s also a good idea to make a bait station from a small, enclosed container. This will make it easier to monitor your bait and top it up as necessary. You should also monitor the area around your bait trap for signs of rodent activity so you can gauge the effectiveness of your control efforts.
It can take days or even weeks for baking soda to kill rodents. Therefore, it’s not the best method of mouse killing if you’re aiming for a quicker and less painful death.
You also need to think about what will happen when the rodent actually dies from the baking soda. Rats tend to seek out shelter when they feel unwell or like they are about to die. Unfortunately for property owners, this means finding a nice, dark, and secluded spot. It may be the interior of your wall or another area that is very hard to reach.
This means that when the rat finally dies, you will have to do your best to find it before the body starts decomposing and stinking or attracting other pests. This can be challenging to do and may require lifting floorboards or making holes in the wall.
If you’d rather make your mouse control efforts as humane as possible, live traps may be a good option for you. These mechanized devices usually have some kind of door that swings shut when the mouse wanders inside, which traps them but doesn’t harm them. These traps can be an effective way to remove mice, but may not be a quick enough solution in cases of large infestations.

To all the people who can't get rid of the issue: if yer struggling that bad w/ it, just get a cat. Seriously; that's the only 100% foolproof, positive option. Make sure to feed it little meat from time to time, and dont always give it unlimited pet food. Scale back a little a few days a week-- not so it's starving or uncomfortable, just so it's down for a snack when available. And all yer vermin issues will disappear almost overnight. Absolutely guaranteed. It's by far the best way, and cats are easy as hell to care for. Empty a litter box, put food in a bowl, love on the little MFer when it want affection; especially at times like when you arrive back home from bein gone all day. But mostly they usually like to be left alone alot to chill & sleep mosta the time. If you've never had one, they're honestly hardly any trouble, and usually pretty cool overall to have around. Just get a damn kitty. And yer abode automatically becomes a 100% NO-GO ZONE for unwanted critters. They'll kill em and leave em out as presents and shit. It's both gross and charming, but handy to dispose of so it's not decomposing somewhere in yer walls or cellar. Cats do everything right when it comes to vermin control. It's a total relief if it's a bad problem for where you live. God's own perfect little cute , fuzzy vermin annihilators. Made just for this particular problem, that can be insufferable when ready bad. If that's you, get one. Be nice to it. Don't neglect it (doesn't take much not to), just make sure it knows he/she is part of the pack/family with occasional pets and sweet talk, And yer good. It'll do all the rest (and make life good again at home, without question). Fuck weird substance combos or poisons. That's the best method

Cats have a natural instinct to hunt. Some more than others. You should never restrict a cat's food to make it hunt. That's old-school thinking. Cats hunt for fun, and even the smell of cats will sometimes drive rodents away. They have to learn to hunt because it takes skill. Also, if the cat hunts, you will need to worm it regularly. Rodents carry lots of parasites and sometimes fleas. I live in the country. A while back I found a beautiful cat in dumped my yard. I took him in and kept him somewhere at first where he didn't have free roam of my home while he got used to me. Good thing I did because he had major diarrhea that was literally dripping out of him. I assume that's why he was dumped. The first thing I did was worm him and worms came out of him like mad. His diarrhea cleared up and he is just a wonderful pet. So if you get a cat for mousing expect things like that to happen.

We have two cats and they just play with mice and other rodents, they don’t kill them. Which sucks because there’s a mouse in immune and my sisters room right now, probably because of of my sisters won’t clean at all and leaves food and stuff out even though she’s perfectly capable of putting her dishes in the kitchen. She refuses to clean to the point she just sits in the floor in a ball crying. We don’t know what to do to make her, I keep my area clean, my other sister does all the cleaning and she’s annoyed she always has to pick up for the sister that doesn’t do anything, I understand and try to help. Even our parents try to use anything except violence, but still she refuses saying she doesn’t know how. When we’ve seen her clean up here and there. Sorry for the rant this is just annoying be to no end and I wish she would actually do something.

@@randomghostonthisapp5370 Cats have to learn how to hunt. They still probably don't know how to catch them. A mother cat that knows how to hunt teaches her kittens. I had an adult cat that used to watch my other cats hunt, and he'd steal the mouse they caught. They were outside, so he had lots of access to mice. When he stole their mouse, sometimes the mouse got away from him. Eventually, he learned how to hunt them himself and kill them. It took him a whole summer to learn. Make sure they have access to where the mice are ALL the time. Never leave doors, closets, and cupboards closed where the mice are hiding. That's the best way for them to learn. Cats have a natural instinct to go after them. If they catch one, make sure you tell them they are good and let them know you are pleased! Give it time. If you were lost in the woods, would you know how to hunt to survive? If your sister doesn't clean up her mess she's just feeding them. That's not going to help either. She should be banned from eating anywhere in the house except the kitchen table. Why is this allowed to happen?

Pest controlling your house and property is never ending; some places are just much worse than others. The first step should always be placing bait boxes outside around the foundation of the building and poisoning them before they come inside. They love walking along walls, crawling in holes and will quickly find their way in. The crawl space is another hot spot to poison them. Trapping is ineffective in beating real infestation as they are high maintenance, and you'll never keep up.

That method is only safe if you can keep the poison away from other animals and kids. And the method used is relative to your infestation problem. In your case, you seem to have a huge problem. But others don't. So live trapping, as long as you stay on top of it, may work. If you wait until they start making babies, then the real trouble ensues.

It will taste like crap, and doubt they'd eat much. Mix some up and give it a try. You'll see.

I've used glue traps and first off they are way too small. You mostly get them stuck to the edge of the trap. I've trapped mice only to have them escape within an hour. Then they drag those traps all over and can pick up dirt and become ineffective. I used mine in the garage. What are you supposed to do with a mouse stuck to a glue trap? I would throw them in a large bucket of water and drown them if I found one alive. Glue traps are a PITA and I always get glue all over my hands.

Since your mice love pet food, this is what I'd do. Take a plastic bag and put a handful of dry pet food in it and sprinkle baking soda in the bag. Shake up the bag and coat the food with baking soda. Take something like a coffee can and cut a mouse size hole in the lid near an edge. Pour the baking soda pet food into the bottom of the can. Lie the can on its side with the hole in the lid close to the floor so the mice can crawl in the hole easier. Put the can near where the mice were eating your pet food. Feed your pet meals instead of leaving bowls of food lying out for the mice to free-feed. Store your pet food in a closed container up high where the mice can't reach it. This method will help you a lot!

If you can get free food or anything given to you that rodents like, try to find a container and mix baking soda with it. It might cut down on some of the activity, but living in the woods, they will keep coming. Put the container under a pile of sticks outside your tent. Other animals like raccoons, skunks, and possums might walk off with the container if they find it. Don't leave it in the open or in your tent.

D-Con, Bar Bait, Tom's, there's a few others. My home place is basically a refuge for most any animals that want to show up, except mice. I choose NOT to use poisons as certain species around my property consume the carcasses and the poison can be residual causing illness or death in species you wish no harm to. I made boxes with 1 1/2 to 2 inch holes cut in opposite ends that I put the baking soda bait in that kept other animals from getting to it. Most other animals (except birds) can burp and fart if they do get in to it.

As much as I don't want to I'm going to use snap traps. I'll take the mice out and leave them across the street in the nature center as at least they'll be part of the food chain. We have plenty of birds of prey, coyotes and other animals around. If you have one mouse I can guarantee you probably have 7-8 to start with! Female mice can produce a litter every 28 days so they'll take over quickly. You have to get rid of them and figure out how they got in and seal the hole! They literally took over my garage and managed to chew their way into my basement! Mouse shit & pee everywhere in my garage! It's disgusting. I've lived here for 24 years and this is the 1st time I've had mice. I have a cat and they don't seem to care. And they managed to get into my attic from the garage too! Figure out how to get rid of THEM as it'll turn into a way bigger problem
