Baited ia bowl with a cracker tied to a bell on a string. Then teped it to the top of the bowl. The string on the measuring cup that held the bowl up slightly. Then I ran the string down the hall to where I slept. If I heard the bell I knew he was eating the bait, pulled the sting, and trapped him under the bowl. Evaded me for weeks. Shawn, several years ago I had a cookout and had a 6 gallon bucket with water in case of fire as we were in a terrible drought. After the cooking was finished and the fire was out, I doused the areas around the grill and stuck the bucket inside a shed. Someone had thrown a chicken leg bone in the gallon of water left in the bucket. I came out to do some yard work the next morning and was going to dump the water as it was next to my work bench. There was a huge dead rat in it. Apparently he had tried to get to it off the workbench and fell in but couldn’t get out. This video brought back a good memory for me. Take care and Friday and today Your counter showed I was #421 on the Like counter. Have a great week and check You Friday 🤠

How deep does a bin need to be so they can't jump out? I once found a mouse "nest" and put the mice in a small garbage bin (about 50cm deep) - they all jumped out. Or does there need to be something in the bottom to absorb the energy when they try to jump?

The bucket probably wasn’t tall enough. Add water, you can’t really jump while standing in water. Or, if you don’t want to drown them, put oil in the bottom, just enough to completely cover the bottom. Their feet will be so slick they can’t hold onto the rim.

This actually worked!!! 🙌🏼 I woke up in the middle of the night to hear something running under my bed and to my horror saw a small grey mouse running out of my bedroom. For the last few weeks, we’ve pulled up the carpets, plugged any potential mouse holes and used this bucket trick, as wanted an alternative to mouse traps. We placed the bucket in the warmest room in the house (laundry/boiler room) and just left it and to be honest, completely forgot about it 😂 You need a lot of patience as this was not an overnight operation but took 2-3 weeks until we caught a mouse. Would recommend to anyone looking for a laid back approach to catching mice.

I caught one tonight with this trick. Setting it free in a bit. I didn't think it would work. I didn't even have a ramp, he probably jumped straight into it from the shelf where we heard it walking often lately. Thanks!

When I was in college our barracks were infested with mice. We used to put peanut butter at the bottom of our metal trashcans and catch mice.

50 years ago, in 'A' school at Great Lakes, they still had some of us living in old WW2 "H" barracks. we did the same for cockroaches. one legendary Jurassic roach was pinned to the bulletin board on top of a dollar bill. No BS: it was larger than the bill. people would come from all over the base to see it.

Wow, thank you for your video. So simple and it works. Neighbour’s cat bought us a present 🐁 in the bedroom and I couldn’t get a humane trap locally same day. Thanks to this simple method mousey was caught and released back in to the wilds (to probably be caught by cat again 😂). Thanks

I also discovered this by accident. I have tall metal bucket where I store mice from my live catch mouse trap. One day I left it for night with 3 mice and some rice and wheat in it, next day there were five mice. Two just jumped in from small table that was close to bucket.

I have been using just a bucket like this for the last couple of years now. About 70 mice in my shed this summer so far. They come for the water since it is dry out here in West Texas. Cute little critters but so nasty and destructive.

I feel like what makes this trap so successful isn't the bucket itself, but the seeds at the bottom preventing the mice from getting enough footing to jump out
