I have repotted a least a hundred new plants immediately or within a few days of purchase. Never had a new plant die on me due to repotting. I just replace the soil with a chunky mixture, I never increase the pot size. Most of my plants are cheap, like €3-5, and they rarely come with good soil. Many are overly wet and would need weeks to dry out in the wintertime. I believe replacing the soil has saved many of these wet ones from rotting. I also notice that many plants seem to have been repotted recently by the greenhouse as they have small roots. My 'Zenzi' had roots that were shorter than 2 cm. My Schefflera's roots did not enter the bottom 50% of the pot. Both plants are thriving now.

I’ve learned (the hard way)$$$) to buy plants that THRIVE IN MY ZONE! I try definitely avoid tropical plant😞😫 I research what’s needed (lighting) as well. WATERING the wrong time has taught me patience,not watering every week🤦🏽♀️ You’re so informative.Thank you for sharing.

I recently bought a monstera deliciosa that was on sale, it was sitting in SO MUCH water, basically swimming. I drained what I could out of the outer pot, and Sheffield Made Plants (love him, check him out on KZbin) told me to just sit it somewhere bright and it would dry out. It did! And now it's looking happier than ever. I'm so glad I didn't repot like I almost did.

When I bring a new plant, I often very soon find pests coming out of the soil (bottom of the pot) and then get sad. Regardless of how much I inspected the plant at the plant shop, I bring it home also with new pests (usually thrips or spider mites). Please, could you make a special video on pests? I find it very difficult to get rid of them once they hide in the soil. Thank you

and speaking of pests, have you checked nemycel? it it worth buying?

@SparkleInMoonlight Yes yes yes. I hope that it won't be brand specific. Maybe some kind of diy pesticide.

I always bring home fungus gnats when I purchase plants from big box stores. I employ some stickys along with adding mosquito bits to the watering cycle. Those gnats will be completely gone in a few weeks
@Brian133562 жыл бұрын
@@sherriew36 Yes! I completely agree, this is a very important step. Even if you don't see gnats yet, bottom water your new plants in mosquito bits. I lost 2 new plants due to gnats and they infested other plants This new watering method saw an end to gnats after a month or so. Yellow stickies are also important to catch the adults and as an easy way to see if you have a new batch hatching.

use 5ml bio organic neem oil with 1 liter water 1,5 ml bio greensoap, spray the leaves till drop of, spray the stem, below leaves, and soil. the pest mites eggs, beast, going die. it's the best solution and not, aggressive or damage you plant, use is till the pest is gone..

Love your chanel! Normally I don't report new plants but for the first time I purchased baby plants online and some of them came without any nursery pot (the plastic packaging was very well done by the way).The soil was extremely wet and they said to let them in their nursery pot to dry out first. I was a bit afraid to leave the soil and the roots naked. So I planted them in slightly bigger nursery pots which I found in my house. I just surrounded the original soil (didn't want to take it off to avoid root damage) with the new one without watering. Hope I didn't provoque any dying of my new baby's 😢 I didn't know what to do in this case.

Actually those are catchpots. They're ment to go outside of a pot with holes so they protect your furniture. They're easy to empty out if you over water your plants too. Also useful tip for beginners if you can, pot in clear pots and put those inside a catchpot. This way you can see if your soil is retaining moisture at a glance and tell if a plant is needed a future repot due to being root bound without having to lift the plant out of the pot or shoving your finger in to check if the soil is dry as you can see the moisture clinging to the inside edges of the pot. In Australia Bunnings has these but most of the time clear Orchid pots will do the same job, especially if you have small to medium plants. This is great if you've never had plants before as you can immediately problem shoot over watering problems!
@meikahidenori2 жыл бұрын
I'm interested in your care of Barerooted plants. It probably isn't much different, but bare rooted is a typical purchase practice here in Australia - as much so as buying potted. A majority of the time with potted you have to immediately repot I find as many places that sell potted plants have over watered them long before you get them to your home, especially indoor plants and the plants are suffering from it.

auw!😖 I wish I could see this video a bit early before I repotted my new plants. I bought two Lamb's ears few days ago and I repotted after just one day and even cut a bit roots because the root were crazilying bound. Now I feel soooo stupid 😭 Hope I won't totally kill them. Thank you so much for the tips. At least I learned my lesson.

my plant started getting stem rot because i overwatered it, it managed to save the head of the plant thankfully. I also heard you can propagate it via its stem cuttings alone. My question is, will this work for the stem cuttings if they started to turn yellow? or are those stem cuttings no good anymore?
