It's still a hit and miss. If it feels natural, it works. If it feels mechanical, it doesn't. If you're not used to dating and the girl is not so much distanced but more like reserved, it's hard to build up the confidence and make the moment happen naturally - which was always the case when it worked. I'd say make sure that you're close to each other, sit on one bench, lean over the bannister touching arms, make proximity feel ok - for you. Cause this is about building up and seeing the reaction to make *you* feel ok and not like a freak getting close to her. The more it feels normal to you to touch her, the more it will feel to her if you do. It's a barrier in *your* head that needs to fall so you can confidently approach, touch, kiss her. Worked for me. Cause the best way to seem confident is being confident. And thats hard to pull off. Asking for a kiss never worked for me. Its a non-verbal confession of intent, I guess and it needs to.

This one time a few weeks ago I sat down next to a gorgeous French woman at a pub and she was leaning in towards me, rubbing her knee on my leg, had her nose like a few inches from my face... and then as quickly as it had begun the moment was over and she was telling me that it was nice to meet me and she's gonna go hang out with her friends and I should have a lovely evening. You see how the guy is being asked to do more and more. It's a continuous dance for the whole date. Totally unnatural for the guy. Imagine if this were to develop into a relationship... the girl would expect this kind of treatment EVERY DAY just becasue "oh cause I'm a woman and I don't know how I feel"... even a 6 year old can see this will get ugly.
