Well done! Nice to see some men knitting and blasting the stereotype. Men used to knit then machines got invented, and they went to factories to work them. But the original knitters were the macho men sailors. There is a nice book I used as a beginner - Vogue Knitting. Shows you stitches up close. There are only two stitches: Knit and Purl. All designs are made using these two - adding or dropping stitches, to make patterns.

I go nuts every winter looking for a nice warm beanie hat. I found one I liked and I am stuck with just that one. I did not know how to knit a circular item. You made it look so easy that I am inspired to do this. I have knitted before and now will pick this up again I did long scarves usually and one full raglan sleeved sweater! I'm thinking the ribbing is to give is stretch. I could use thick needles, thick yarn to get a fluffy hat. I'm so very glad I stumbled across your channel randomly. Looking forward to more. Posting for people who had the same issue I did, and I see lots who did. If you end up creating a scarf, or aren’t connecting in the round, be sure when you’re done casting on, and starting your first row the needle with the working yarn should be in your right hand. (Assuming you are right handed). You will knit and purl normally. But you will have to hold the working yarn with your left hand since it will be on the right needle. Hope that helps!

I'd like to make this hat but not sure about the point where you said to switch to a 32" circular magic loop method. Do I transfer the stitches onto the 32" circulars and then do the 3 rounds to reduce the number of stitches? And do you have a video on using double pointed needles?
@alyssaschreck18566 жыл бұрын
Gahhh I finished mine, but I made it way too baggy at the beginning. Don't think it's the tension, I just used size 15 needles, and thicker yarn because I thought that'd make it go faster. >_< Wondering if there's any way to tighten my current hat, but guessing not.

I got a little confused near the end of the video... What am I supposed to do after knitting 8 inches? Double needles and knit two? or do I just forget that and do the darning needle part? Thanks.
@ExpressionFiberArts2 жыл бұрын
So with your live stitches on DPNs or even a circular needle, knit the entire round as follows: *(k2tog); rep from * to end of round. Do this round instruction for three rounds, which will decrease the number of stitches. Then use the darning needle and scrap yarn, and run it through the remaining stitches before cinching them together.
@rositarodriguez12246 жыл бұрын
This one will be a near future project for me. How many inches long do you recommend it to be if wanting a brim?
@katharinekelly94194 жыл бұрын
Hi, I keep playing the video and trying it out, but when I get done with the first round of knit/purls it isnt still joined like yours is, if that makes sense, the yarn and needles are separate again, so I cant seem to be making a round. How do you do that? I dont think I have made much sense, but i hope you sort of understood that. Thanks for the video! :)
@ExpressionFiberArts4 жыл бұрын
Great question, Katharine! Sure, you'll want to make sure you are inserting your needle into the stitch on the needle WITHOUT the working yarn, when you start the first round. So the very first stitch WILL join the ends together. Hope that makes sense!

@Knitted_together_by_Jesus2 жыл бұрын
When I get to the end of my first row, I should have 2 purls and then the 2 knits. But it ends up becoming 4 knits. I’ve undone and restarted several times. I keep ending up with 4 knits at the end of the row. Is the cast on stitch count of 88 correct?
@ExpressionFiberArts2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the CO of 88 is correct. You can think of the first round as (k2, p2) times 22, since the k2, p2 = 4 sts and 88 divided by 4 is 22. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "it ends up becoming 4 knits." If you have 4 sts remaining before your marker, you wouldn't knitting 4 times. You would just use those 4 remaining stitches for the final k2, p2 (=4sts). I hope that helps.

@honestamber8 жыл бұрын
Storme Sanderson knit/purl makes the hat stretchable. A regular knit or regular purl doesn't have the same flexibility but you could just knit your hat. I usually knit/purl the first few stitches to make a pretty brim and knit the rest of the way up. After your first row - When you're looking at your knitting, on the left needle if you see a bump, or a line that runs under the needle that was a purl so you need to purl that one. If you don't see that bump, instead you see a V or kind of a heart shape, that was a knit, and you need to knit it.

I know what happened! Even though she didn't answer my request, I asked another person and she said that your working yarn has to be in the right hand instead of the left hand. If you've knitted before, making a scarf, your working yarn is in the left hand, but for knitting in the round, it's in the right. You might want to check out Marly Bird, I think that's her name.
