You might want to try making tubes first. I remember when I first started ( and yes, I started with tubes), it was frustrating. I made a lot of mistakes (still do), and that’s called learning. Hang in there… you will get it!

Thanks for the video. I bought this for the flat panel and spent a few frustrating hours trying to get a panel. I made but a few short panells not much until I switched from the yarn in the box to Patons classic wool and voila, success on first try. I think I needed a yarn with a “bite” to help with dropped stitches. Much more confident now. New users just stick with it and you will be successful. It will be worth it.

Thanks, this was really helpful. I ended up making a scarf with all my scrap yarn and then just crocheted the edges where the sides were a bit funky. It was easy to pick up the dropped and hinky stitches and even out the edges with a crochet edge. My second attempt went much better. One of the better videos I've seen on KZbin.

Panel knitting on these machines can be very difficult if the tension is off or the type of yarn does not work well with the machine. It required a lot of experimentation to get it right which unfortunately puts a lot of people off using them for panel knitting

The max you can get out of a 48 pin is 45 as you need 3 free pins to create the edge. The machine needs to go past these to finish the last row and return to create the next row.

U can stitch the panels together, that's why we have the sewing needle. I'm making a cardigan and the needle helps stitch all the spaces together

I was just playing with mine and you can! One important note is that when switching from the Tube to the Panel setting there will be four stitches that will get dropped. To prevent this, just pull a piece of scrap yarn through those stitches to hold them until you're ready to deal with them

I don't quite remember as this video is a few years old 😅 however the rule of thumb is that there's about 6 rows to an inch so... if I had to guess by looking it's probably 48 rows... roughly

You most certainly can! I will say that making tube scarves may be easier if you're just starting out but, both projects are possible using panel mode.

:/ I've tried following this and several other tutorials but it's not working I can cast on fine, but no matter what I do, every round after that drops one stitch on both sides. So, after a few rounds, there's hardly nothing left on the machine. I've tried several different yarns and it's still the same issue

This is definitely something that I struggled with too for a long time. I've noticed with flat panels, I usually have to keep an extremely careful eye on those edges and I also have a crochet hook on standby so I can catch the errors early on and fix them. Its a real "practice makes perfect" kind of thing.

@@ziggyprice4780 when you're doing panel knitting, on my sentro 48 needle, the two-ish stitches on either end don't catch, but that's fine you just keep knitting normally, your panel is just not going to be 48 stitches, it will be like 44 or 46 stitches.

I usually use a crochet hook to remake any stitches that fall off. Sometimes it helps to give the yarn a little tug when you reach the ends of each row. That way those stitches don't fall off also.

Hmm I haven't had that problem yet... when you started making your panel, did you start in panel mode or tube knitting mode? Sometimes I'll start off in tube knitting and then switch it to panel mode and it works fine like that

How I did it was after a row I put pressure in the beginning of the next two by pulling the yarn, then I make sure I go fast constantly, make sure each stitch is under that handle

The width? No, unfortunately you'd have to sew together several panels in order to expand the width of the project.

@@haniahani3302 oh no, no it's not a dumb question at all. As far as I know, you're supposed to cast on all the needles. Sentros come in 48, 40, & 22 needle sizes. I haven't experimented with casting on less stitches though so I don't have a good answer for that 😅

I've had this to happen quite a few times (even now) and I don't know why the machine does that but if you know how to fix knitting stitches with a crochet hook, you can correct this. I was thinking on doing a video about this in the future. The panels are frustrating sometimes 😅
