You do a great job explaining this cast on method, I think its because of the angle of your camera and how nice and slow you go You mention that this is the magic loop method but this is NOT the magic loop method at all, I think you have a misconception of what magic loop is. And also, with a 1X1 rib, which is a 2 stitch repeat, and is divisible by 2, the stitch count needs to be even. You stated that normally with 1X1 rib, it needs to be an odd number of stitches. As a general rule, 1x1 ribbing needs an even number of stitches, unless a pattern calls for one extra stitch for joining in the round, which I think is maybe what you meant? And at the end, why dont you just use your darning needle to take each stitch off of your needle as you go? I do it all of the time. You don't need to take the stitches off of the needle all at once at all. I think many beginners may lose their stitches doing it your way.

I can’t wait to make this hat for Christmas presents! I have made 5 of your easy Christmas Stockings! Can you talk about the length of the wire the knitting needle has? I tried using one with a much longer wire (it was the right size needle) to see if it would work, but it didn’t. Now I see where you responded to another comment. Is there a trick to determine the length of the wire? 30:04

Thank you so very much. I love your voice and presentation. Your video is so clear on what to do but doesn't drag on and on and on. I've never been taught how to use a pom-pom maker so that was super helpful as well. The question that I have is what if you need a BIG hat? I want to make one for my husband but the man is 6'4" tall and has a massive skull LOL. It's impossible to find hats in stores that fit him. Do you have a suggestion for making the hat larger? Thanks!
@FlockAndFern
@FlockAndFern 3 жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much! For your husband cast on an extra 4 stitches do two extra rows in rib and 2 extra rows for the body and then continue as set out. Hope that helps!
@conniejohnsoncj8724

Does this affect the decrease rows? and cast off? How many stitches will be left? Sorry I’m terrible at math! Also, I knit the hat and after 1.5 “ ribbing for rim, I did three rows of slipping the knit stitch, and normal purls. It makes for an awesome fold, but I added more knit rows before decreasing. Fits my head perfect, but hubby’s head is bigger. 4 stitches is all I need?

Downloaded the pattern but struggling to understand. Please could somone explain (knitting every round as the magic loop method) When you knit the main part of the hat. Does that mean you loose a stitch where you pull one over the other at the join as at the first row of ribb? Thank you
@FlockAndFern
@FlockAndFern Жыл бұрын
No you just slip one st and pass it over on the join (very first time only) all the rest you just keep knitting as is until the decrease. The st marker helps you keep track of how many rounds you’ve done. Hope that helps!

About how many inches is the finished hat? I want to make this for my son who is 6, head measure 15" around. So I'm trying to figure out if I could stick to the pattern as is, or if I need to decrease amount of cast-on stitches. Thank you!

Hi thanks for getting in touch. For a hat to fit your son, I'd recommend casting on 40 sts and working 2 less rows in rib for the rim and 1 less for the body of the hat. Hope that helps!

Thank you! Could I make this with a long tail cast on? Also, for a 1x1 rib, don't you need an even # of stitches left after joining? Love the hat, going to try!
@FlockAndFern
@FlockAndFern 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Yes you can absolutely, it's much quicker that way it just isn't as stretchy. Nah, they don't have to be even depends on what kind of rim you want and I liked the look of that many Sts (plus it fitted my head better haha). Hope that helps!

Hi, I loved your video...but sadly am a beginner...when you pearled the "last stitch with the yellow clip" to the "first stich" at the end of the first round...was that the only time you were supposed to do that? Just after the first "round"...and how did not throw the stitch count off? Are we always working (until the crown) with 45 stitches?? Sorry to be so clueless but I LOVE This hat and want to make tons of them ;)

@Auggie025
@Auggie025 2 жыл бұрын
@@ruby07241 I can try to answer your question. Purling the last and first stitches together-- She did it to make the stitch count odd so that the 1x1 rib wouldn't be off and also to blend in the join at the beginning. You would only do that once. Your stitch count would have decreased by one after that. As long as you have uniform stitches, I wouldn't stress too much about little details for a simple pattern like this. If it were a cabled or more intricate design, then yes. I've discovered so much from misinterpreting patterns. It's the beauty of experimentation!

Yes you can! Do any cast on that you like! The only difference will be in the stretch of the cast on edge. If it’s too tight, cast on with more stitches and vice versa for too big. Happy knitting! Xx

What is the point of the marker if you join?
@FlockAndFern
@FlockAndFern 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Terri, the marker makes it easier to show where you start the round. This helps with working out when to change style e.g. rib to st-st or when counting how many rounds you have done - if you loose count. You can use a scrap of yarn and feed it through the joined sts if you don't have a marker to hand. Or even a safety pin :)
