I'm working on this pattern and I can't get it to not bunch up and curl in. My stitches are loose and my knitting needles are two sizes larger than what was recommended for the yarn. Do you have any advice on keeping the pattern flat?

I know you asked a while ago but the answer to question 1 is no but if you look online you can easily find instructions for honeycomb in the round, if you look for a mitten pattern you can find the right instructions. question 2 is a yes.

question when it says "Cast on: Multiples of 8 + 4" why not say 12?

+Kimberly Smith If you did twelve it would be way off. Example you cast of 28 (8x3+4) if you cast on 12 3 times you'd get 36 stitches .

Kimberly, the pattern is 8 stitches (knit or purl 6 and slip 2 for a total of 8 stitches, note that I am only discussing the 1st section with color A and B)). You can make this pattern in to a blanket, if that is what you would like, or a very thin summer scarf by multiplying the pattern to the desired length. So, if you want a very full winter scarf and you want 5 patterns you would multiply 8 (the pattern) by 5 (the number of repeats) to get 40 stitches. The 4 comes into play at the ends. Because you don't repeat the first knit, 2 slipped stitches, and last knit (they are outside the pattern) you add 4 to your final total. In our example we had 40 stitches thus far. Add 4 stitches on to that and you now know that you need to cast on 44 stitches. I know that you wrote this 11 months ago, but if you didn't know back then someone else doesn't know today (or if no one was ever able to answer your question). I hope this at least helped someone. :)
