I’m a fairly new knitter and a long time crocheter. I found it easier, especially when working through the back bump, to use a tunisian crochet hook and complete the entire cast on without having the struggle of forcing the needle through that somewhat difficult back bump. Hope this helps
@nimbleneedlestwo2 жыл бұрын
yeah tunesian crochet hooks are quite useful. Many knitters don't own one tho - or even know they exist.
@ellerich37172 жыл бұрын
@@nimbleneedlestwo I apologize, I should have specified that my comment was aimed at those who have experience in crocheting as well as knitting. I have found that a tunisian hook can be used as an alternative to a knitting needle in various knitting cast ons/bind offs for those who feel more comfortable working with a hook.

Hi … very very nice cast on look do you have a bind off technique who can match it? Many thanks 🙏
@nimbleneedlestwo7 ай бұрын
you can also bind-off with a crochet hook if that's what you mean? but other than that, there are no real matching cast-ons and bind-offs. your best bet would be starting with a provisional cast-on and then doing the same bind off on both sides.

yes it absolutely can be used in the round - with one little caveat. You will have to graft one stitch to bridge the gap with the tail later on. Otherwise, you will end up with a bigish gap.

Good video, thank you ! But what hook size vs needle size do you recommend ?

thats very difficult for me to say because it kinda depends on your crochet tension. Typically I would say...same or half a size higher.

Hi Norman. Would I be able to use this method of casting on in the middle of a row? As I’d like to match the neckline edge (top of the sleeve section actually) of a jumper that had standard cast off stitches on the other side? I hope I’ve described that well enough 😅

you can use the backwardloops cast on or the knitted cast on for mid project cast-ons.

Hi Norman! Does it matter what size crochet hook I use? Should it be the equivalent to the knitting needle?
@nimbleneedlestwo Жыл бұрын
yes, I would pick one that is in that range. It will depend a bit on how tight or loose your crochet, tho.
@rachelar62 жыл бұрын
Does it matter what crochet hook size you use?
@nimbleneedlestwo2 жыл бұрын
not really, as you cast-on around the needle and this will define your gauge. However, if the crochet hook is too big or too small you will have a hard time grabbing the yarn. So i'd say it should be roughly around the size you are planning to knit with
@rachelar62 жыл бұрын

A question on this method, if I may. What size hook do you use? Is it the same as the needle size, or larger or smaller? Thanks if you do reply.
@nimbleneedlestwo Жыл бұрын
I'd go for same size or slightly bigger yeah.
@amyg7177 Жыл бұрын
Do you use the same needle AND hook size? If I'm using a 5mm knitting needles do I use same 5mm crochet hook?
@nimbleneedlestwo Жыл бұрын
So, I would lean towards same or bigger. If you look closely at the repeat, that you will notice that the immediate edge stitch is definied by the barrel of your crochet hook (the others are devined by the knititng needle). So, if you were to use a very teeny tiny hook that edge would end up very tight.

Please how do you get the measurements for this method?

@sonneebah Жыл бұрын
@@nimbleneedlestwo You know how we use a tape to get the measurements of someone’s hip or waist in crochet? My question is; can I use the same method and still pick up the loops to knit? I dunno if that made sense😑
@NimbleNeedles Жыл бұрын
@@sonneebah well, knitted fabric behaves vastly different than crochet fabric. So, I would be very careful to adapt any method found in crochet..just because the cast-on is done with a hook, doesn't mean the rest of the fabric will behave like crochet as well. in knitting (but actually I would say also in crochet), planing a design always starts with a swatch.

Is the crochet hook size important here? Or can it be any size?
@nimbleneedlestwo2 жыл бұрын
hm...well...i would say it does matter but it will depend a bit on how tight or loose your crochet. But normally, the size of your needles definies the size of those loops, not your crochet hook.
