I am a beginner, but your lovely tutorial gives me the courage to try to make this sweet hat for a dear friend who is expecting her first baby. Since you are tripling the yarn and adding thread, would you recommend a sport or DK weight yarn for a hat to fit a baby, so using the 40 or 44cm guide for number of stitches? What needle size would you recommend?

You can adjust the size for any age, depends on the size of the head. I’ve casted on 94 stitches for a boy aged 5-6 years, his head circuit was 52 cm If you want the smaller size, I’ve mentioned the sizes in the video, check the video time on 1.38 minute😍
