You should. It’s just a rectangle. Biggest thing is keeping track of your lace rows. Don’t lose or add stitches. And be sure to use lifelines!

Can you use a provisional cast on, and leave the last row on the cable so that you have live stitches when you make the collar, instead of picking up stitches?

Having the structure of the cast on and bind off before adding the big collar is important in this design IMHO. So, the short answer is yes you technically could, but I don't recommend it.

Is heavy worsted weight a 4 or 5 in yarn weights. I have searched for an answer and haven’t found an answer to this. Thank you for your help. ☺️

So, I will tell you this yarn is listed as an Aran, but I found it to be closer to a worsted weight. However, this stitch pattern makes the stitches LARGE so you will want to account for that. Technically, I would call this yarn a size 4.

I'm not sure why you are using SSK's on the alternate pattern row rather than K2T - I get the leaning left vs right but the openwork look would still be the same. Or am I missing something ?
