I've always had a love/hate relationship with variegated yarns. I love the color combos, but always hated the way the colors would bunch up in weird blocks. I get it now! Sadly, there was no KZbin in the 1980's when I first learned to crochet. I seriously dragged a skein of Christmas yarn from that era - regular price $.97; sale price $.78 - out of my stash and used it to test the pooling technique. It actually worked with my decades old bargain yarn. Now I can't wait to try it with gorgeous, new yarn. Thanks so much!

i love this video, everyone talked 'tension' but nobody showed how ..... THANK YOU!
@MsSassySean
@MsSassySean 6 жыл бұрын
Marilyn Tyner The tension is where she made the stitches "tighter" (to use less yarn) and "looser" (to use more yarn) or changing hooks so that the colors can be "placed" where they need to be "placed" to achieve the argyle patterning.

I am making a headband with the redheart bright mix super saver, using a G/6 - 4.25mm boyle crochet hook, and I chained 9 starting with 1/2 color of the purple, first row double crochet into the third chain from hook, double crochet all 6 spaces, chain 1, second row single crochets into each space, chain 1, then repeat until enough rows are done to fit any size head. the pattern is there for the tiny color squares showing diagonal and the same look repeats every 8th row. It is so cool looking! :D

+Karin Brown thank you!!! I worked very hard on the preparation of this video. I hope others find it helpful. The planned pooling technique has been around since the first skein of variegated yarn was made. I simply took all the information available for both knitting and crochet and taught it in a way that I find easy to understand so that others can enjoy this technique. As I mentioned in the video notes, the facebook group is a great place to find more information. And if you are interested in a more technical/mathematical way of doing this check out a book by Laura Bryant, Artful Color Mindful Knits. She is amazing...and has a craftsy class on the subject as well.

I've worked on this all night, and I finally have a swatch that resembles something like argyle! I'm going to get this down if it kills me! 😆 I'm so glad that you showed your own multiple imperfect swatches toward the end, because now I don't feel so inadequate. If you can't get it perfect every time, then my newbie mess is more excusable. 😂 Thank you for all of these tutorials, Marly. You've made planned pooling easy to understand. Of course application is not the same as theory, but I've got plenty of time to practice.

I couldn't make a decent argyle pooling before. Your tutorial works because you explain the mechanics of yarn pooling. Once you understand whats really happening, then you can do it in other yarns also. When you don't understand, it is a matter of chance. Thanks for your video and your super clear explanation. Will recommend your video to anyone trying to do the argyle pooling!
