Big difference in Best Buy dates VS Expired Dates, best buy are good for 2 years post BB date. Tossing is a waste of money and food,

In prepping for an emergency situation a good idea is having a sealed bucket of dry soup mixes, beans and rice etc.. A 20 litre bucket provides food for a month person and lasts for years . Just grab and go. Much better than canned food due to weight. Buckets filled with medical, fire starting, blankets, candles etc..are fast to load in your car if you need to buggout quickly.

Great idea! Yes, I have quite a few buckets of long term things in my long term basement storage but I like the idea of dividing it a little bit to have a couple grab and go buckets! Thanks for that idea! 💡

I don’t know how this happed but I found a box of pudding that was 12 yrs past the use by date. Just for the heck of it, I mixed it up & it tasted just like fresh. Fed it to my family & no one noticed anything. Hahaha!

Great job on pantry organizing! 😊 I use tomato products up to 2 yrs expired 😮 I've baked with cake mixes that are a year expired and they were fine. 😅 Crackers and cereal and nuts I don't tho, they end up tasting/smelling rancid. 😢

We mostly keep canned goods in the pantry by kind of food, pasta in one cabinet, baking and spices in baskets in one cabinet. Flour in frig and freezer, and it stays pretty much where we put it. Needs tidied ocassionally. So much easier than the way we used to do it.

@@joyfullythriving Think in terms of cornstarch because it is the base of most of seasoning packets like gravy, taco seasoning, and even spaghetti sauce. It can be used to thicken what is in the pot plus make from scratch puddings (egg custard, other nore like blanc mange, and most of those frozen chiffon pies). If you bake, don't forget quick bread levening agents like baking powder and baking soda. Cornmeal its self doesn't go bad and can even be added as a thickener depending upon how coarsely its ground. If you do any long cooking, barley is a good thing to have on hand and begin to incorporate into your repertoire; in general save it for winter when its cool and you're looking for denser carbs. Oddly enough scan ypur fridge and cupboards to see what sauces you use and have but would likely be unwilling to make; a spare of these is good to have. Worsteshire and soy sauce come to mind where as the assorted teriyaki, sweet n sour, and even BBQ sauces can be achieved from scratch with not too, too much extra effort.

I keep looking for sales on butterscotch & Reeses choc chips to make your peanut clusters recipe. Does Kroger ever put these 2 items on sale? Where do you usually buy these ingredients? I feel like we're stockpile twins since I approach what I store the same way you do 😊

Stockpile twins! I love it! 🥰 Yes, Kroger does occasionally run a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" sale on all their chocolate chips including butterscotch. I get them there occasionally or around the holidays at Aldi when they stock them. They do seem to carry the butterscotch ones more regularly than the peanut butter. Reese peanut butter chips I often buy at Walmart. Hope that helps!

In a grid down situation, trash may not be picked up, therefore mice and rats. Consider storing supplies(other than canned goods) in covered totes. Also, take as many items out of boxes as possible.

For past date tomato products, I open the can and 3xamine it for any off-coloring of the product plus the interior can condition. If either seems off, I toss. Else, I use. If still in doubt, I boil at a rolling boil for 20 minutes which most often means im making some type of a soup with a tomato base.

Great organization! We mostly stock canned tomatoes and my husbands soup for when he sick but not a lot of other store bought cans. The rest of the things I make from scratch now or make and freeze like the cream of chicken soup and enchilada sauce. I keep my own pumpkin purée in the freezer so we don’t get pumpkin anymore either. Because of all that the pantry is a little bit of a mess. We have a line of hot sauce next to my few ketchups and syrup, sriracha and a few other condiments. Sadly it now makes sense to me so I stopped moving things 😂 I have my stock of rice, pasta, flour, bread flour and sugar but I keep all but the current one in use, in the 5 gallon buckets which are stored in the basement. I love your nice big pantry! Mine is much smaller but we make it work.
