Measure diagonally across the grid, then measure diagonally across the small square and subtract that from the grid square measurement. Now divide the remainder by 2 for the length of the small pieces.

To come up with measurement of diagonal length. Measure corner to corner of one of the 4 squares. Next measure corner to corner of outside of one small square. Subtract that from first measurement. Divide by 2, it should be close to what you need.

Thanks Russell. That is a good way to get an approximate length for the pieces and set it up for a first try. I don't think I would really be able to get the perfect fit by just measuring and hence always do a couple of adjustments afterwards.

Yes, but setting up a cut for 3.44mm is not easy, so I prefer to sneek up on the fit.
