Jesus Christ, thank you so much. My new boots were stabbing my ball joint of my ankle, and I almost sent them back until i watched this. I didn't pull my laces up enough and just had the top cuff flapping about.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was about to donate my new boots because the pain and bruising above the ankle (at the highest point of the boot) was just horrible. I tried this lacing method in today's walk with the dog and they felt so fine. A little uncomfortable on the ankle bone, but I've seen massive improvement. And to think I've discarded boots due to this in the past. You've saved me some money and made my walk enjoyable. I'm cascading this knowledge to the family.

Hi, question: I have so many foot problems and after speaking with many professionals and trying dozens of boots I finally found my "best option." However, I am having some ankle pain from the upper laces which is making me hesitant about them. I would try this hack but there is only ONE lace up row instead of two! any alternative methods or options/tips? Thanks
@trekitt Жыл бұрын
Are they fairly new boots? I find that I quite often have a little pressure around the lacing whilst the boots are fresh, but within a few walks it tends to disappear. There aren't any tricks I know of that can alleviate lacing pressure without simply loosening the laces, which creates more issues unfortunately.

Do you have any lacing tips for pain experienced in the side of a body ankle
@trekitt7 ай бұрын
Side ankle pain is harder to avoid by adjusting the lacing, we would first look at the socks you're wearing to make sure they are up to the task and have enough cushioning to help with ankle comfort. After that, it would be a look over the boots to make sure there isn't an obvious pressure point being caused by something in the boot itself. Trying different socks and a few of the techniques mentioned here might help, but if it still persists and is only in one particular boot then it could be down to an ill-fitting boot and it might be time to try getting fitted for an alternative pair. If it's something you experience in multiple different pairs of footwear then you could also try strapping the offending ankle to hopefully alleviate some pressure too.

If you reverse the direction you wrapped the lace around the loop it creates a "strong" knot and will not come undone. This works especially great with round laces.

Any recommendations if you've only got one hook loop up top ? ... I'm having some ankle pain with a pair of keen targee 3's in a "mid cut " they only have one hook... Thanks
@trekitt4 жыл бұрын
Apart from reducing lace tension or possibly wearing a thicker pair of socks, there aren't many options left I'm afraid. Is the pain due to pressure caused by stitching/fabrics within the boot?
@rebelvictory4 жыл бұрын
@@trekitt I'm not sure what the pain is from honestly.. its my first pair of anything taller than a tennis shoe ( besides pull on boots that have free ankle movement ) i decided to go with a mid cut boot because all the experts recommended them... I'm not sure now, maybe i made a mistake and should have stayed low cut ? Maybe they're just too new - stiff 🤷♀️ it's nothing running it just aches after wearing like in the bones or maybe muscle -tendons

Good advice, as always. This is a long shot: a problem I frequently have is boots failing, cracking and eventually splitting across the top where the toes bend. Volume reducers have helped to reduce or prolong this. Is there anything else one could try? I know of a few other people who struggle with this.
@trekitt5 жыл бұрын
It largely comes down to the fit of your boot and as you've mentioned, the volume. Did you have your footwear fitted or was it purchased online?
@WalksWithOlly5 жыл бұрын
@@trekitt Most of the boots I've owned have been fitted and recommended by another 'Outdoor' retailer. When it came to replacing the first pair that split, they then recommended volume reducers, which has certainly helped to prolong the issue. It's also fair to say that I do more walking than a lot of people! 😁
@trekitt5 жыл бұрын
@@WalksWithOlly Ah, okay! Our first thought was volume reducers, however if you've already had these fitted then our next port of call is down to the maintenance and care of the boots. Leather boots especially will require frequent care such as conditioning and waxing to maintain their supple, protective characteristics. We have a video which outlines how to care and maintain your leather boots (link below), however if you've got a fabric boot then we'll be producing this soon. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6jGna2NfqZ3p8U

Mine really hurt on that prominent ankle bone on the inside of the ankle. So so sore. Been considering shoes as even not laces has caused pain. But I don’t get it as I went up Kilimanjaro 15 years ago with the same boots. Don’t get it at all….
@trekitt4 ай бұрын
15 years is long enough that your feet have likely changed shape so those boots may no longer work for you. It's very common for us to lose some of the natural cushioning we have in our feet over time, as well as any changes in weight, injuries and activities can also alter our foot shape. Do you experience the pain in other pairs of boots or is it just that one particular pair? Might be worth trying alternative pairs to see if its a boot specific issue or an ankle issue. Then from there the next step might be going for those shoes instead if that relieves any pressure you have.
@simoncove14 ай бұрын
@@trekitt thanks for the reply. I don’t wear boots a lot so it’s hard to say but it’s just that bone on the inside of the ankle. I’ve got the Yorkshire peaks in September so it’s a bit of a worry to know what to do to be honest …. I’m not sure how much support boots give but I would always previously bought boots over shoes but yes, it’s a tricky decision.
