Hi Jerika, I too have been experimenting with glass engraving using the xTool F1. I have found a different way of doing it prior to filling the glass jars with the candle wax. I pour some black acrylic paint into the empty jar and roll it around until it covers the inside surface, I pour off any surplus into the next jar and repeat. Once I have done this I then set aside the jars to dry on a radiator. Once they have dried I then follow the same process as you to engrave the jars with product info, logos etc. using the F1. The difference is that my jars are engraved on the inside and the outer surface remains smooth and shiny. I thought I'd pass it on in case you wanted to try it for yourself. Thank you for your video.

Very cool custom labels Jerika,! When you are ready plug the rotary accessory in it will keep the letters on the far edges sharp. The logo on the lids look amazing and the jar etching is almost there, a few more tweaks and you will have it dialed in perfectly. Having your branding on your custom made products is critical and separates you from everyone else! Thank you for experimenting, it was a very informative video!

I like this system for stuff as it makes the product 100% recyclable. For my lotion jars, I paint the inside of an empty jar. Then rinse them as part of the sanitation process. It takes longer in terms of time spent, but makes it zero cost in label, printer, ink, and time applying the labels.

I have done a lot of power burn testing on these laser etched jars and all have burned down without an issue. That being said, etching glass is marking it - even if it’s outside, it’s something to consider for sure.

When I first saw you working with this tool, this is exactly what popped into my head for how I'd want to use it. My husband and I had just been talking about how to elevate our branding, labels have always been a sore spot for us (just never quite right) and we wanted to do some sort of etching like this, then I saw your first video for this and knew it was possible. I've been hoping to see you attempt this, especially after seeing you do the lids. Definitely on the investment list (just had a baby, literally yesterday, so business stuff is on a hiatus at the moment 😅).

If you go with the F1 ultra you can just toss the lids on the moving conveyor belt and it will auto scan. And then the completed lids drop off into a basket! You could also get the F1 extender and use a jig to load each jar and you could do 5 all at once.

Kudos for creativity. I would wonder about the integrity of the glass with regards to burning a candle. Would it mess with the it enough to cause an issue with the glass's ability to hold up to heat? Will insurance still cover it since the glass has been altered? These are the things my paranoid brain asks me when I want to be creative.😭

If you engrave the jars before filling with the wax you could just put a piece of white paper or a colored construction paper inside the jar.

Hi! Really great to see your ideas and best of luck! :))) I would probably just get/make some kind of stencil that had a square cut out. So you could just put on the stencil on the jar - one, you would not need to wash off so much excess and two, you could use the roller liberally with paint and not worry about a mess everywhere.

I've just started experimenting with laser etching glass myself (protip: Use old sauce bottles, beer bottles, jam jars for practicing, no need to waste saleable product). One thing I have found is that the laser creates a 'shattered' layer of glass on top of the etch, almost like a salt crust. This crust can flake off leaving a darker spot as you found in some of your tests, but it can be scraped off with a blunt metal tool though which leaves a more uniform etch with a little more dimensionality. is that practical for commercial use? Probably not, but I'm planning on experimenting with an ultrasonic cleaner to see if that can shake the crust off the etch, then at least I/you can clean the etches in in bulk and end up with a more uniform product. Now I know this video is a few months old, but what the heck, someone might find this useful 😅.

The clear paint tray is a liner for the green tray it gives you the thin disposable liner but the rigidity of being able too roll the paint of the roller in the tray. I was looking through my fingers as your sleeves floated around near the paint 😂. Although the laser printing is to some time consuming, is it cheaper than having to pay for printed labels or for the ink and sticker paper if you print them yourself over and over again, after all once you have paid for the laser printer it’s really the cost of electricity that you have to pay for most of the printing you actually do. It’s really a case of what fits in with your style of manufacture and packaging .

@AtomicElf1
@AtomicElf1 11 ай бұрын
Hi Rebecca, the problem is that the laser is concentrated light. When light hits glass, it scatters. So the intensity of the laser is weakened. There is probably about 0.25 inches of glass before you reach the wax inside, so the color of the wax is not going to be very effective at reducing that effect.

Hmm while I like the idea however I think the labels would be the better route, as then the jars can be used for other things after the candle is used up, with etching permanently into the glass the jars can't be used by others or "recycled". Of course that is IF you care about a jar with a glass etching that isn't what you use it for after the candle is used up. paper labels seem just better for the "secondary market". OR would you be worried about someone reselling the jars filled with inferior ingredients as a unopened jerika original because unlike a paper label which degrades with use a etched "label" wouldn't and look pristine... Food for thought...

Tempera paint is washable with water acrylic paint dries and is not washable with water that is the reason why finger paint is tempra. In my shop when we would do acrylic we would mask it off we wouldn't exactly weed we would actually just use rossignol the lighter fluid and that would remove the masking. It's all about time. You could stick with paint and I think or you could try masking it off. For a single run they came out great and great for you that your experimenting. I would try a couple of things set them aside so you can revert back to them which would include more than one run.
