@lilripsta9119 жыл бұрын
you are absolutely correct. grind in the clutch slowly and once it starts biting you let go of the clutch completely. that way you eliminate any bog down and you will save your transmission in the long run. cluch is a lot cheaper then a whole transmission
@N0TThatCrazy9 жыл бұрын
Great video man. I'm happy that you went into drivetrain shock by slowly creeping forward. That is a step the majority of new drivers do not do. Because i drag, I recommend using the hand brake to keep the car from creeping and tripping the beams before you're ready and haven't had a chance to build boost. Then drop the brake right when you go hit the gas. And because you have the brake holding things tight you can disengage the clutch further so you're not slipping it. As for launch control RPM, I've always done well setting it 1000-1500rpm higher than where you make peak torque.

I see a lot of people putting hard racing clutches on their cars. our shop does not switch out the stock evo 9-10 clutch till over 400hp. the reason is, harder clutch transfer on the transmission. all that energy is going to have to be absorb somewhere, it better to burn a clutch then bust out a gear. think of the clutch as a barrier of protection.
@XxAtomic646xX9 жыл бұрын
digitalsaint2040 stock evo clutch literally has 3 maybe 4 proper launches in it before its slipping. first upgrade on evo should always be the clutch
@digitalsaint20409 жыл бұрын
XxAtomic646xX I can only say, I don't know what you call a launch, but my 07 -mr/CT9A mid 340hp didnt get a new clutch till 40k its has 60k now on a new stock. my 14-cz4a is just shy of 400hp on e85 with 20k milles it wont slip-out unless I fail to launch right. ive fucked up so bad that even a person next to me at the light said, bro you car smells like its on fire lol. abuse vs proper technique. if you car sounds like you ran over a parking curb your not launching it right. it should be a short roll out, followed by 1 or 2 seconds of clutch slip you should see all four bars on the center diff, if you only see three you didn't do It right(. then a 1-2 second short pull to 6500rpm. then throw up to second and once you foot is off the clutch, and on the gas you should be at 60. its not something that is easy, it took a lot of trial and error and some advice to get it right.
@XxAtomic646xX9 жыл бұрын
digitalsaint2040 proper launch of a evo requires slipping of the clutch and preload to reduce strain on the drive train. You always want to burn up your clutch rather than buy a new tcase. Stock clutches in evos, once slipped properly on launch, do not last very long at all.
@digitalsaint20409 жыл бұрын
XxAtomic646xX gahboabuooobaksoonakaaaa!!! swhat I said, the short roll out "pre-loads" so that the there is not gaps in the gears, but I am picking up what yoru putting down. its not uncommon to see a x low miles having clutch disk issues....but its mostly cause they drive it that way. lucky its not hard to change the clutches in the late models. I have never worked on let alone driven anything before an evo 8. ive always wanted and evo IV though. チームの皇帝 !!!!!!

What about using the handbrake to avoid the "creeping" like if you where at a dragstrip or racing someone and don't want to "cheat". That would have the same effect without destroying gearboxes and driveshafts right?
@slikkrw4449 жыл бұрын
I keep my tire psi harder then normal. Cause they stick so well as is. Then launch as hard as i can to use the tires kinda as a second clutch. If i am at a light, i don't really want to be "rolling forward". Works great for my WRX. Love smelling burnt rubber from a AWD car! Not so much when you are smelling clutch...

I would suggest if you are going to slip the clutch like that also engage the parking brake so you dont creep forward. It also adds load to the motor which will build boost faster. Without the ebrake my EVO will build only 8psi. With the ebrake i build 14.5.

I done over 300 launches on stock evo 8 clutch ( the car is a big lighter than stock evo, around 2210pounds) but i realease the clutch as quick as i can, on 265 semislicks tyres at 5k 2 step rev limiter and never broke anything. Releasing it slowly burns the clutch badly and also if you competing against another car or the clock you already lost doing it that way.
@jonevo99328 жыл бұрын
to launch an evo without a 2 step is to put it in 1st gear hold the clutch down and pump ur gas paddle rapidly to 5k rpm or more hold down on the gas and pop ur clutch

I've only started driving stick shift recently so sorry if this is a noob question but how to do you PROPERLY do a hill start with awd vs rwd and fwd
@dragkid18510 жыл бұрын
Hill starts are going to be the same no matter what wheels are powered. Now some cars have a hold feature where they will stop the car from rolling back and they make hill starts a lot easier. To do a hill start you let out the clutch to the slipping point and let it out a little bit more you should be able to take your foot off the brake and the car won't move. After that you just start out like you normally would.
@JonathanPalenik10 жыл бұрын
dragkid185 Thanks, but i've heard people talk about using the handbrake? does it matter?

whenever I launch my WRX I guess I'm doing it wrong then, I launch my car very, very rarely but when I do, I just hold the gas pedal till it's at or a little above 5000 RPM (never done it more then 6000) then I just drop the the clutch. I am yet to have anything break from doing it this way but like I said I do this VERY rarely. Anyway no lurching or anything it just takes off and always leaves some nice tire marks on the road for about 5-6 feet. Anyway thanks for video though, now I know I'm not doing it right.

I using same technique, but with handbrake so you can start from completly stop. When I first got my audi a4, I thought it would launch just like a normal car. Wrong! the second I revved and drop the clutch I could tell there was something wrong, the car jerked forward violently and almost stalled. My advice after two all wheel drive cars is don't do it. Get rolling a little bit then you can just let the clutch all the way out and floor it without any shock to the drivetrain.. I know its not good for the track but most people don't need that perfect tire-spinning launch when simply racing somebody on the road. My two turbochargers more than make up for a little rolling start!
