It’s tough work. Most people get scared of it I think. I’m not them tho I don’t know haha

I've discovered laying narrower block can be a bit of a booger, so appreciate the tips there. Looking forward to you doing some stuff with 4 inch block.

Sometimes If you want to spend a couple extra cents you can use a semi-solid on the top course of 8’s and that makes it easier. I’m kinda cheap tho haha. And I can lay em easy enough like I do here. Just have a couple rocks in the pocket

Keeping your head joints full on 4" block is a huge help.

Hi Mason, I love your videos and thanks for all the information. Can you please do a video on how to lay block around a window.
@masonthemason6412 Жыл бұрын
Yes I will once I have a foundation with a window in it

@@masonthemason6412 Mason do you cut a template which is 10mm large or some other size and then use that to block around ?
@masonthemason6412 Жыл бұрын
I don’t cut templates. I usually lay the block before the window goes in, then put a lintel over top. The framers come in after that

Do you now use these block corners to run a stringline? How do you make sure the level of the string line from mortared in corner block to another side?

Great video thank you

I find doing step 2 before 1 more beneficial as step 2 can knock off the level of step 1. I like to make sure my block has a level face 1st which is step 2 in the video.

Just laying some block now for my garden shed. I'm glad I found your Channel; lots of great practical tips. I noticed that the 6" block isn't a return corner (L shape looks like an 8" from outside). Is that typical for your part of the world? Do you cut 1 5/8" filler pieces to keep your bond?
@masonthemason6412 Жыл бұрын
I just cut a filler. I should ask and see if they make those corners
@andrewmacgregor8717 Жыл бұрын
@@masonthemason6412 They do in Ontario. Unfortunately they're metric equivalent sizes. Might overcome the rocking/shim problem. There are also similar corner blocks for 10's and 12's.

What’s the best way to get in to brick laying? Are there contractors who post openings for laborers?

How many blocks could a beginner lay in a day? Just a straight wall 10 blocks long and 7 courses high with re-bar every 16 inches.
@masonthemason6412 Жыл бұрын
I mean it depends on the beginner. I can lay 300 a day with a laborer. I would honestly say a beginner might lay 50 a day
@hawaiiansunrise8984 Жыл бұрын
@@masonthemason6412 I got 44 on the first day and 50 today so I'm pretty happy mixing my own mud and moving blocks etc.
