How to Lay Bet in Craps

i have been playing craps for more than a year and no idea about lay bet. I saw somebody played it for the first time last year before christmas. Now I know what it is all about. I dont have to play dont pass the bar now waiting for 4 or 10 to become a point. Thank you.

New York New York in Vegas only takes the vig in the win on lay bets. I sometimes use the lay the point ladder strategy and it does well for me. I just stop at 2 knock offs and wait until the next shooter. Having multiple hot shooters in a row is rare. But I’ve been at cold tables when the dice went around the table 1.5 times without anyone hitting a point.

Are lay bets better than dont come/pass bets? With lay bets, you can choose the number you want to bet against. 4 ever time vs dont bets might have 6 or 8 point, which is less favorable. you also dont have to deal with the scary come out roll that happens with dont bets. The vig is a small price to pay to not have to deal with the scary come out roll. Am I missing something, or are lay bets way better?

The difference is that the don't bets pay even money instead of true odds. So you've got less money at risk on the table with a don't. You can always lay the 4 or 10 to try to cover against a 7 on don't come...

The lay bet is always on, so if you lay the 4 on a come out roll a 7 will win and a 4 will lose for the lay.

You can make a lay bet at any time. A line bet is only required if you want to roll the dice.

If I lay the 10 and the point is let’s say 4, and shooter comes out and rolls a 4 does the lay bet lose or is it just like playing a number, to where it stays until the point is established again then it’s your 7 vs 10 again?

Can you put odds on lay bets? If so, 1) can you put them on at the same time you put the lay bet on? 2) do you get better odds and/or do you still have to pay the vig? I'm a noob so I'm trying to learn. Thanks

No, a lay bet pays true odds, minus the vig, so you don't add odds. you would need to make a don't come bet, and then add lay odds if you would like to avoid the 5% vig

I tried to do a regression strategy with a lay bet on 10 to cover my inside numbers while I try to get out of the hand. I got knocked off my 10 like 4 times and it felt horrible. The probability says it is a good hedge, but when the dice don't go your way, a lay bet hurts a lot since you essentially pay double for the hedge. What do you think? Work it to lay bet or accomplish a similar outcome by just doing the Don't Pass (with the disadvantage of it being a contract bet at that point)?

The don’t pass is never a contract bet. The casino would love for you to take down your don’t pass after it’s established because you are at the advantage.

Jeremy: Good explanation of Lay bets. You said it can be removed and vig returned any time. Was hoping you’d say, when a player wants to cover a “DP” or “DC”, a player will sometimes Lay the 4 or 10 for that one roll. Another good point you mentioned was someone playing the “hard 4” as a way to reduce risk of loss. Was hoping you’d touch on Hop bets to cover the Lay 4’s… but that’s a whole other video. So, you now have a great Segway into talking about Hop bets, which 99% of players have Never done, seen or thought about. Especially proud of you doing a couple vids on $220 inside. You are Very right: the Huge power of risk for 1-2 hits, then playing with casino dollars is a massive concept, and one few think about when crafting a successful strategy.

Can you put a place bet and a lay bet on the same number? For example, $30 Place Bet on the 8 and a Lay Bet of $36 on the 8. If I CAN do this, the lay pays $30 with a $1.50 vig and if the 8 Place Bet hits I'll get $35 so a loss of only $5

Yes, so you’d have $67 ($1 vig upfront, some casinos $2) in bets on the 8. If the 8 rolls, you’d win $35 and lose $37 lay bet for net loss of $2 If 7 rolls, you’d lose $30 place and win $30 with lay bet to break even. This is a no win and only slow loss situation.

Thank you for the info! I saw another one of your videos where you regress to the iron Cross. $30 on the six and the eight and if one of those hit you regress to $18 on the six and eight and put $15 on the five. But of course we all want to avoid the point 7 out. so my thought is having a $36 lay bet on either the six or the eight so if the sister number hits I can continue the iron cross regression strategy but if i point seven out I get $28 back and don’t lose a whole $60

Great thing about Fremont is you can try them all since they are so close. I like el Cortez for old time vibe, circa for its modern class, and Fremont for the roll tracking for prizes.
