If you are new, play next to the dealer on base and tell them so. Most dealers are more than happy to teach you the game and the different ways to play. With the “order of operations” they follow, you are either first or last getting paid/bets placed. I have seen a lot of dealers take the time and explain how everything works but it makes it so much easier being right next to the person on base. I very much appreciate a “full service” dealer.

@Andy I agree with your comment. In my opinion, a dealer would rather teach someone the basics instead of having to fix repetitive mistakes. Also tipping the dealers occasionally is a good way to get them to help.

crap dealers are def friendlier because craps is the only game where the players aren't playing against them. Its all 100% on the shooter and the betting. All they do is payout and scoop up the dice. Thats it. I've seen countless craps dealers cheer and hoot and holler with everyone else at the table. NEVER have seen that at other games when you are playing against them.

I remember one of my first times in Vegas I was with a friend and neither of us were experienced craps players by any means. We knew the rules vaguely, but took the time to also learn the etiquette. We got a space at a $5 table and had cash. I reminded my friend, "Hey, want until the puck is off to buy in". The player to our right heard this and gave us a nod of respect. It ended up being quite a long roll in which the player to our right did very well. The 7 eventually came (as it always must), we bought in, and the player to our right placed horn bets for both of us as a gesture of kind will. And wouldn't you know it, it hit! I'll never forget that.

I thought that I was the only person who felt the $25 craps tables were the worst idea ever. The high rollers have $50 & $100 minimum tables. Craps tables for low rollers should be $10 at most. There are still plenty of bets on the table in which the casino can make major bucks off the players. Once in a blue I find a $5 craps table & I’m in heaven lol

Great video! Two other things I stand by is 1) Don't talk to or interrupt the shooter. So if your buddy/husband/wife etc is shooting at a table don't walk up behind him if your not playing and start trying to talk to them. 2) If your hot and a die goes off the table always ask for same dice.

I have been playing craps for years now and what you said about the 25 dollar tables is true. I used to pretty much never see them unless it was a weekend or I was in Atlantic City. My Dad and I were in a place on a Tuesday night and they upped it to 25 the other week. It's madness

Lastnight was fun! First I handed wife the dice and they were like nope can't do that haha. First roll she throws them off the table. Then she heats up and we turned 60 in to 700. She gave up the dice an hour later. Best birthday ever 😅😁💯

Maybe ask the casinos to install a video monitor with this video on it for those beginners (like me) and you the dealer etc could just tell them to watch the video and then return for betting. It would work in the interest of the casino, dealers, players and the new players.

Former dice dealer. A few tips to go along here: Don’t place your money within the place bet numbers themselves. As mentioned, place in the come and state what bet you’d like. Inside the place bet numbers is a dealers work area. It’s also where losing money goes after a 7 out. It’s also where dealer tip money can go. Had a table one night where I had to keep telling players don’t throw money in the numbers. After awhile, a 7 out came. All the losing money was brought to this area. People wanted to color out and placed a stack of green ($25 chips). It eventually got put away with the rest of the chips. After several minutes they asked where their money was. I asked what money(?). It was a whole fiasco. Took them close to 45mins as surveillance had to verify when, how much etc.

Nice vid, I played for the first time this weekend in Vegas (using your videos to learn beforehand) and when I saw the title of this video I thought “this would have been nice to know before!” But decency and common sense plus what you’ve said in your other videos covers it. As for the 25 dollar tables, I’m on board! My first round was on a 15 table and I had a pretty sweet roll, I think we all won good money, I doubled my bank roll. Later I could only find 25 tables, against my better judgement I played and lost all my winnings, thankfully it was just my winnings and I came home with what I brought. Great content, you explain things in a way I can hear it.

I remember one time when I was new I got to the table mid-roll and the point was six. I reached to put my money on the table as the dice were coming out and the dice hit my hand. The table gasped, and one guy was about to yell at me but the dice landed as a hard 6, then everyone cheered. One of the guys looked at me and said that never happens. Since I've been playing I can confirm I don't think I've ever seen it happen like that.

If you tip the dealers they'll also help you make correct bets. On SEVERAL occasions, I've had bets "accidentally" over paid by a red or two. Ironically, this always seems to happen when I've had side bets for the dealers, had them up with me when I'm stupid enough to play the hard ways or after I've tipped them following a big win. They really appreciate the tips and will be more than willing to help you out any way they can.

Superb content , thanks Jeremy and good review for intermediate players also. off path a little ... if your the shooter and you want to set a hard ways set, as the dice are being pushed to you look for where the six and one are coming at you. set the one on the outside of one dice and six on the outside of other then roll one die (I like the one on right) to match the same number as the other. now both dice are hard ways set (hard four, hard six hard eight hard ten on axis. With practice at home once dice in hand it can be done ez in 5 seconds. also tipping dealers with two way bets or inside numbers for the dealers , pass line for the crew etc when your winning I sure have noticed they keep an eye on your play and help if you missed something. I had a 25 dollar horn high aces at the Peppermill that hit and the proper payout is 285 and still up to win. I had a field bet and was looking at payout as many others were on the field too. The stick man paid me wrong underpaid on the horn high bet but since I had been tipping here and there the boxman on the next roll called it and told the stick man he needs 285 total. in summary tip dealers and light or no alch along with knowing exactly what to expect to be paid immediately when your bets hit.

I'm glad you mentioned the table limits. Used to find many $10 tables just a year or two ago. Now most on the strip are $15 with $25 min very prevalent even on weekdays! They do this to make it expensive to bet odds (no house advantage) as the base bet is set too high in the beginning. E.g. 6 or 8 with $15 base is $75 odds which is crazy to start a session. On hot rolls it doesn't matter, but hot ones come once in a blue moon... Just sayin'

Great video Jeremy, thanks! Another interesting one is a hot shooter passing the dice. I have seen this multiple times and have had hot shooters pass to me on 3 occasions. I've had dp and 4/10 lay players verbally call for me to roll a 7 which one time put me on a 50 minute roll so no I am not superstitious on that. Problem with inadvertant hands sometimes is that the stick has no voice and does not properly announce that the dice are out.

Funny story on passing the dice. Where I'm at they have a firebet. Essentially you try and light and point each place number before a 7 out. 4-10 . I had roll for a good 20 minutes and had already hit 3 out of the 6. Well a guy at the other end of the table kept yelling at the way I was rolling the dice. So I passed the dice. The gentlemen next to me rolled for another 30 minutes or so and hit the 5 point fire for 250 to 1 payout. Of which I had $5 on. So it turned out well. The guy yelling did not have a fire bet. Think he wasn't so happy. Lol

Awesome video. One tip I would add is don't be shy asking the stick person to speak up calling the numbers if you cannot hear what's been rolled. Too many here in St. Louis mumble the number, and unless you are right next to them, you don't know what's rolled.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. The local place put partitions between rail spots, couldn't here a thing. Had to constantly keep asking what the throw was. 'Course, a bit hard of hearing anyways, and that crap certainly didn't help. The noisier the table, the better the action. Hate the mumble-tables.

He is talking about tipping your dealer. Dealers don't expect players to go crazy tipping, especially if you yourself are not winning very much. But if you have a good roll, or a nice hit on a hardway or something, just toss a few white or a red chip to the dealer to put on a few numbers or on the hardways for the dealers. Dealer bets don't have to be table minimum. Most players will have the dealers bet on the things they are betting on as well, so that everyone wins at the same time, and the dealers are rooting for the same things you are. When the dealers are making money too, they will help you more, by giving you strategy advice, and making sure you don't forget to bet things. I remember a few months ago, on a local craps table here, they had a long roll going, and the dealers chose not to rotate, even tho one was due for a break when the next dealer came off break because they were making money too, and didn't want to mess up the roll.@@zackd2852

Today I put a $5 bet on the 4,5,9 & 10. $6 on the 6 & 8. It was a long roll. They made a lot of money. They pressed it at times. But they changed dealers, as they do, and the new guy took down the bet and the win when a 6 hit. I said, “are you taking the bet down”? He put the bet back.

Agreed with the $25 tables gotta go. The bankroll needed for those tables just isnt sustainable for your average player. Luckily I found a $5 min at PH in vegas. It was the virtual table set up which I saw in almost every casino in vegas. Higher end places having $10 mins which is feasible

I used to play years ago at the El Cortez when the tables were 25 cents. Haven't played much since except on a cruise. Instead of tipping if I was winning I would make a "two way bet" usually on a hard way combo. This makes two people concentrate on the bet for better luck.

Now it clicks.. played at JACKS in Cleveland over the weekend .. was at a 15 dollar table.. everyone was having a blast ( we had to have tipped the dealers at least $1,000 over the 3 hours ) the floor manager was watching.. I tossed a 7 on 15 rolls of the dice.. he promptly switched it to $25.. everyone expect me thru a fit .. the manager said dont like leave it's the weekend.. we all colored up and vacated the casino.. I dont like the dollar amount to bet thats what stops me from going higher .. but now with your explanation of the pay out odds .. it makes sense.. 25 dollars tables feed the house not the player.

Pretty good salient points.I wish to add these observations from being a player who loves the game.Never as the shooter hit any chips.If you encounter a cold shooter don't place any bets or bet the dark side.When you are on a good roll keep pressing.Avoid coloring up your chips as it both slows down the game and takes away your momentum. Good video and sadly for me I have not gotten to chuck the dice for a long time.

I have been everything from a dealer to casino manager. 42 years and still at it. I agree with the table minimum topic. I come in at 3am, there will be 2 or 3 people on the dice game and frequently, they have it have it $25. First thing I do every single morning when I walk into the pit is to tell them DROP IT DOWN !! Or if people are winning and there is a crowd, the box asks me for the $25 signs. NO ! Soon as you raise it, everyone colors up and you get a dead game. So annoying becawse these kids today are insulted to deal on a $10 game, and dont understand you will make more money in VOLUME of players. Thank you.

One tip for late bets. If the dice have gone out and you forgot a bet, pick up the money and just tell your dealer what you want. 99% of the time, they’ll book it and you’re fine. Unfortunately in the Chicago market, $25 tables have become very common.

Tipping the dealers might get you some better strategy tips for betting as well. Dealers want to help you win, so you tip better. Start off on the right foot, and the dealers watch out for you! Look for $5 tables too. If you want to learn for low-end betting and have a few drinks! When I was learning, I stood right next to the dealer on base, and just made $5 bets, had a few drinks, then started up on $10's. Dealer taught me about Odds betting, come bets, and playing 2 point Molly method.

Never yell "all bets off" while the dice are in the air. Never kiss the dealer for good luck. Never bring your own lucky dice from home. Never accuse a stranger of being a casino "cooler". Usually, very early morning on weekdays one will find the lowest table limits a casino offers. So grab your coffee and see if a casino offers a $5-$15 table vs the weekend when you may only find $25 or higher.

Great advice about the 25 dollar crap tables. Also going back to the ATM when you have lost all your money is definitely a bad idea. The house always win. Your gambling for the fun of playing the game. Take out what your willing to lose and that's it. I've had great nights on the table and other times I've loss and went to the ATM for more money. Of course, I continued to lose. I learned many years ago to take out one amount. When that amount is gone your done gambling. As for tipping. I always tip the table. The trick to successful gambling is to set the amount you want to lose before you start; then use that amount try and get to the point where you're playing only with "house money" (i.e. your winnings ;with your original stake being put back in your pocket!) Then gambling can be the fun it is intended to be!

As a dice dealer, late bets (especially late Field bets) piss me off the most. Usually, I can write off a late place/lay bet (even a late Field bet) as a player either being distracted, thus forgetting to make the bet before the dice are sent or having a last second hunch, but there’s a special place in Hell for consistent late Field bettors. No matter how light or heavy the action at a dice table, there’s no excuse for waiting to the last second to make a self-service bet. It’s like you’re a pedestrian waiting at a crosswalk at a red light, then, when the light turns green, decide to cross the street into on-coming traffic and act surprised when you get hit.

Agree on the 25 tables. On East Coast and Pit Boss said no more 5 or 10 or 15 live tables only the digital ones were available at those amounts. Just maybe if we all bod together on this and boycott them they will eventually drop the limit??? Great video!

The only time I saw 15 was at Del Lago in NY on a Tuesday. Weekends everywhere us 25. They definitely are pushing the smaller bets to virtual tables. For the people that are more nervous about live table gambling, they are an entry point. I don't hate them, but I wish I could grab a 5 dollar table for the sheer thrill of it. Just wasn't the same.

Awesome channel, just subscribed. Although video poker will always be my #1, craps is a close second. Like you mentioned though, the $10 non electronic tables are getting harder and harder to find outside of maybe downtown Vegas. There is something about the feel of a full table, with lots of action. It's like Wall St. If you haven't already, you should consider doing a little tips and tricks video. Things that almost no one will mention, until you are actually at a live table. For example, when I place the 6 and 8 for $12 and hit, I throw a $1 chip to the dealer so he/she just gives me back a cleaner $15. :)

With the amount of virtual table games popping up, I think 25 tables (or 15 on weeknights etc) are here to stay. I can see them pushing the more novice players (like myself) off the physical tables to virtual. They can still rake in the money and the newbies get some of the thrill of table games.

Virtual tables are a rip off. I played and lost. Low and behold, I go and play at a 25 dollar table and won like 2 grand in two days. The dealer there walked me through the game. Glad I spent 200 dollars there and made my money back.

I always turn my bets off when: stick change, someone buys in mid point, cocktail waitress serving someone at the table, and someone is arguing a bet or payout. Those are dice killers for sure

Mahalo Jeremy, I'll let my wife watch this n read the comments since she threw the dice for the first time earlier this month. Now she wants to learn how to bet so I don't have to help her n hold up the game. I was getting ready for my fourth roll n set the dice to toss them n a red chip came flying over my hand n stopped by the C&E, I was at stick right one. I threw the dice straight up in the air, the stick called "no roll" n the dice came out 4 n 3. I gave the idiot a real stink eye but I did not yell at him. I took about four to five minutes to reset myself n calm down. No one told me to hurry up n throw the dice. Everyone on the table was staring at him. He wasn't on the table when I began my roll so he may have bought in during my first three tosses. That dude needs to watch this vid. RogerT

I agree with everything you said with one exception. It takes 2 seconds for a dealer to change $100 (one stack of red). Most casinos don't even require the dealer to break down the stack if it is taken directly from the bank. And if it is broken down from the dealers stack a half-decent dealer can cut $100 in red checks in a snap. Basically it takes no longer than paying off a bet after the dice land to change bills.

It’s not a problem for dealers and casino don’t care, they want the money in game. The problem is the superstitious players that freak out when someone doesn’t buy in for $100, but $368 all in small bills…then the 7 rolls. The advice is to protect beginners, from jerks who will scream at player, not worried about dealer.

Sometimes, I will stand right next to the dealer and drop $1,000 cash on the table right next to the pyramid rubber and the dealer will slide two stacks of green to me. Doesn't interrupt the game at all.

My pet peeve is shooters who splash the table. There are all styles of tossing the dice, and some shooters like to throw them as high speed line drives, knocking chips all over and leaving a trail of destruction for the dealers to clean up and recreate.

Where I play, and this is during weekday afternoons, usually the table is a $10 one. If the table gets crowded, often it's raised to $15. That's fine, it doesn't affect the way I bet - generally I will have about $100 total in action once a point is established. Then a week ago on a Thursday afternoon the table went from $10 to $15 with 10-12 people playing, then an hour later, still with a full table it was made a $25 table - something I have NEVER seen them do on weekday afternoons. So I colored up 😉and went to get something to eat. I come back 45 minutes later and there are 3 people playing, none of whom were playing when they made it a $25 table. So out the door I went. Raising the minimum to $25 certainly didn't benefit the players OR the casino, hopefully management is smart enough to realize that.

If you're a free odds player, you want a low minimum table, even if you're still planning to bet a lot. That way, your flat bets are lower and you can put more on free odds

Lots of good stuff. As a former dealer, here's my take. 1) Buy-Ins: the house would never want anyone to wait to lose their money. If you have an easy buy-in like the $300 shown, that takes 3 seconds to cut checks and send them out. I would not buy in in the middle of a heavy roll but if the action is light and you're not buying in with a wad of bills, buy in the middle of a roll and say "change only, no action". 2) 6 and 8, $6 increments, absolutely! I hated the guy who wanted a $100 6 and 8 and then ask to press them when they hit. 3) Don't criticize the players? I totally disagree. If you get a huge prop better who is holding up the game with crazy bets and not tipping the dealer, laugh away! And if players are not tipping the dealers, it's okay to mock them too!. Some other items: 4) Make your prop bets to the stick! don't whisper them to the base dealer and hope that they will relay that information to the stick, 5) Chip etiquette, you should always try and place your chips down, never throw them at your base dealer. If you are tossing your chips to a dealer, twirl them so they don't roll away, 6) Always "Color Up" if you have a lot of chips, it helps the box know how much you've won or lost and also gives you an easy opportunity to tip your dealer.

Good point is if it’s a busy table….just sit back and be patient and get a good feel with the etiquette and how your dealer interacts and communicates. Mainly learn from others if they upset the dealer or others around him. What did that guy do that made everyone mad or upset the dealer? Asking always helps.

Jeremy,great review for me and i learned something new about put your bet on the line between come and field bets.but I have three prop bet stratagies that when i hit near the end of my bet progression tlshe dealers have a hard time figuring out the payment and it stops the game to a big haut and if the table is pretty full I get a lot of looks of displeasure.as the game is stopped to pay me.is there some suggestion you have to prevent this?

Was at Mandalay Bay, and the table was $25 at 2am. Right when I bought in, the sup changed the sign out and all the sudden, it was a $50 table. The dealer looked at me with pity and said, “are you sure you want to stay? It’s $50 now.” I just grabbed my chips and left and she said “I’m so sorry, maybe next time!”

On the $25 table, In Lake Charles, Louisiana the L'Auberge casino ( there are only two casinos there) almost always only has a $25 minimum. Occasionally you might see it $15 but not very often. The other casino, the Golden Nugget usually has a $15 table but good luck on getting on it, Since there are almost no other choices to look at, it is always crowded and you have to wait until someone backs out to play.

My dad and his buddy's were working in the oil fields long ago. I guess there was an Italian guy that came to the casino that looked to be pretty high up in the mafia. The guy was betting the pass line big. My dad was betting the don't for only like 5 or 10 bucks. My dad and his friends were drunk. But my dad was saying seven in Italian and every time he said it the guy rolled the seven losing 1000s while my dad won 5 or 10 bucks. My dad said he's lucky he is still alive after that

#12 for sure.... I would always go to Vegas with envelops for cash...one envelope for each day I was there that had the cash for that day, then I had one labeled HOME. If I got back to the hotel at the end of a day with cash it went in the HOME envelope and I'd start again the next day with that day's envelope. If that day's cash is gone, no more playing until the next day!
