Yes, but someone else did that part. I just laid the block for the general contractor and left. Sometimes I only do one part of a job, and someone else comes in and does the other parts

You use a string to range in all your columns? Very important if you want them to line up
@michaelbennett90902 жыл бұрын
Only on first course. If you keep it plumb they'll all line up if you range first one in

Where do you het those blocks?
@originaldanman3 жыл бұрын
You almost got it right. At least with the rough cobs we have here in S. Fl. you can only plumb 3 corners from 2nd course on up. 2 corners on one side and one on the next side as your doing it, there's no need to put a level on that 4th side, it's a waste of time. Just plumb both sides of the side you want to keep looking the best, and one corner of the 2nd side just like a jam.

Question….with just a little bit of figuring couldn’t you have eliminated those tiny cuts on top? Possibly make a bigger mud joint on the bottom and slightly bigger joints in the other courses ? Those blocks will probably be filled and covered with stone so no one would ever see slightly bigger joints ?? Maybe start at the column where the stone was on the wall and hit that height without making a cut and then level your way around ??? I’m just learning and wondering …

HI guys thank for this video very helpful.. I do have a beginner question but here goes. Q: Once the first course blocks is plum. Could we let it dry before laying the other courses or not a good Idea and why please. Could you name the type of leveling beep device you used?
@masonthemason64122 жыл бұрын
You can do that. But once it’s laid I’m just careful with the mud and moving the top block around so I don’t bump the bottom

Damn who made that soup?? Lol Make the hoddy add a bag of dry mix in and shake it up so he learns not to do it again
@masonthemason64124 жыл бұрын
Hahaha my brother did it. He's usually really good with it because he's full time mud man. The sand buckets got left in the rain so they were really wet. He didn't know that. Everytime we start a batch we throw half a bucket of water in the mixer so it doesn't stall. The sand was so wet we didn't need any water haha. It was windy and hot so it was good for him. It stiffened up by the time I was ready for my second course
@youngmasonry2 жыл бұрын
I would of got labourer to add more sand and cement to the wet mix and dry it up instead of waiting for it to dry

When you plumb go all the way down with the level not half way up it's not accurate if u want to be plumb. Good job though
@mathusvaiaoga97874 жыл бұрын
Why is it important to level only 2 sides instead of all?
@masonthemason64124 жыл бұрын
The blocks aren't perfect, they won't ever be exactly level or plum, there's always a happy medium. The way I do it there's no medium and I have a perfect corner from bottom to top. You can only have 2 good sides on the block. It is almost impossible to make them all level and plum. This way at least one corner is perfect as high as I can lay them
