Stucco concrete block pillars.
Folks, we are located in Oakland, CA.
FYI, folks, here are all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.

Kirk Giordano Plastering Inc.
Send pictures to Jay or myself at our sites below for immediate bids.
www.StuccoPlas... Kirk’s website.
www.GiordanoPl... Jason’s Website.
Note in this video of how to stucco CUM pillars, I was asked to match the home’s textured finish.
Yeah, I know his bull-nosed block columns looked cooler before we matched the finish on the home.
I do what I’m asked, or homeowners find someone else to meet their request.
• Stucco concrete retain... Plastering concrete walls remove board lines.
• Stucco over Concrete B... Stucco concrete block walls.
• Stucco over concrete b... Stucco of your brick walls, Green-Core cement.
• Acrylic stucco over re... Stucco acrylic going old-world finish.
Stucco thickness on Brick walls or concrete block walls should be at least 1/2 or more; I'm not sure it’s thick enough. Add more Stucco until it is thick enough.
When it rains, the thickness matters to avoid seeing the grout lines.
Apply or layer at least 1/2, and you can’t go wrong.
If you paint the new Stucco, this will also hide joint or grout lines.
How much sand is for each coat of Stucco?
Scratch coats are mixed at 1 part Portland to 2-1/4 to 4 parts sand, brown coats are mixed at 1 part cement to 3 to 5 parts sand, and finish coats are 1 part Portland cement to 1-1/2 to 3 parts sand.
• Sand and cement stucco... . Sand and stucco ratio for applying consistency how much in the description.
By the way, brick, concrete, and walls do not need any stucco netting attached; in fact, stucco lath or wire attached is counter-productive.
So, don’t do that.

Kirk you really are a master and make it look so easy. It has inspired me to maybe try to stucco my 2’ tall 60’ long block wall. Would you suggest this as a DYI or hire a professional? Ive been quoted $500 for a smooth steel trowl finish. Just curious if this job should not be a DIY

Howdy Gkllue head, thank you! We do make it look easy. What you have is worth easily 3 times the amount this fella is charging you; there is prep work that most have no clue of. Plus, steel troweling is the most difficult to do It's difficult to trowels down sand smooth in fact it can't be done even if you have the power of Thor. I'd suggest you take him up on his cost and buy them an expensive bottle of rare wine too. It's a deal he's giving you. If he can do what he claims.🍻😉

Evening Supper Daddy, now you getting into the 15 year knowledge questions, it take years of practice to be able to work in either 40 degree weather to 105 degree weather, for me just a few minutes are necessary to make proper adjustments. The same holds true for any surface I am about to apply any type of stucco, render, plaster, acrylic stucco and any of form of cladding known to man. It's not going to the university of common sense but many many years of time in. It's all in the years combined and knowing what is compatible and what is not, or the shoulds and the shouldn'ts. Sorry i can't answer your question in greater detail, but there is much I would need to know about your circumstances, best wishes, kirk giordano plastering

This reminded me of something else, Have you ever applied veneer plaster over durrock or cement board and if so do you need a bonding agent? Evening Billy, I always use bonding agents as a rule, sometimes I do to kill the suction but mostly if I'm not sure a surface is really clean I take no chances as if does not adhere, old kirk has to redo it. Sure you can patch the loose stuff, tap on the whole area and remove what appears to be loose, hopefully you will get it all. Cheers, Kirk and Jason giordano’s stucco videos

Hey Kirk, I have a question. Do you think concrete blocks are the easiest for a beginner to stucco over? I have a small concrete block wall I'm building. I've watched tons of your videos and I came to the conclusion the best way to do it would be to give it a skim coat with a sponge float finish and follow up with a color coat. I'm not sure about the mix yet for the skim coat, I'm thinking 3 parts sand to 1 part portland cement instead of a pre-mixed one, I guess it would be easier to work with instead of a fast setting mix. The color coat will be a commercial cementitious finish. Since the blocks are new I will apply directly without pressure washing or bonding agent. I know it will not look as good as a pro but I'm willing to give it a try. thanks in advance

For the novice - what is the difference between mortar, plaster, stucco , parging ??
@StuccoPlastering
@StuccoPlastering 3 жыл бұрын
Hody John, Plaster is for interiors, Parging is for brushing on lime plaster to sticks rocks or anything else that need to be protected fro rodents, bugs or rain damage, its been used for thousand ]s of years. Stucco is a term used for exteriors; mortars can be used for all but mainly grout for holding bricks or concrete blocks together. Or one can call all of them muds as we do.😉

Kirk you have to help me out here,I'm confused ,You put the mud on , then you let it dry and started floating before making the pier straight ?, its all bumpy ,is this what the customer wanted ?, or is this a standard ?. Down under we would rule or screed the pier or wall with a aluminium u channel and then then float is with a plastic float and gently sponge it which gives it a sandy finish but we use a level to make sure everything is flush, thats one finish but we always make sure it's completely straight no surface dents or waves in it . Is this what you do to? , is there different rendering techniques and variations from country to country ?. Let me know I can show you some photos ?.

@@StuccoPlastering perfect. Thanks. I'm building a woodfire oven here in Ireland and it seems the render or stucco as you call it is done slightly different. We scud the walls first which is a 2 to 1 mix of plastering sand and cement and alot of water which makes a slurry consistency before the scratch coat. I plan on finishing with a 4 parts sand to 1 part lime and 1 part white cement to get a white Spanish finish. Thanks for the quick reply. Keep the videos coming pal 👍

Howdy Peter, this was a rare project, I have only added lime a few times in my years of plastering, these walls were smooth as glass, the lime helped the stucco spread better, I added a couple of shovels full to the mixer, if these walls were not smooth like glass I would not have done so, another way would have been for me to apply a bonding agent to these walls. Peter Benn hi, here in the UK I use lime all the time in my sand and cement. An example mix would be 4/1/1 sand/cement/lime for scratch coat, then 5/1/1 to top it off 😉 it improves the workability of the mix considerably.
