Great Video man! I found it’s a lot easier using the same piece of angle iron to do your layout just longer with the tip cut at a 45 degree to make it easier and not need two people, also if you tack a piece of round rod or scrap metal to the edge at the inside at the opposite quarter mark from the one you mention it holds your degree and you can do your layout comfortably. Thank you for showing this awesome trick 🤟🏽🤟🏽

a simple explain for how this trick works is using fixed dimension . when cut to the point on small tube . it is the same as you stick this point on larger tube . note that , this method not only works with round pipe , it also works with whatever thing :))) thanks for video

That's a good accurate way of doing i use template paper wrap it around the small pipe shape it with a Sissors to fit perfectly against larger pipe then slide it back and Mark smaller one bobs your uncle Noel from ireland

The term for this is "projection". I have been using it as a pipefitter for years. Can also be applied to other things not just pipe. When cutting notches on anything to make pieces fit into place.

well shit, you should have made a video of it back then, would have saved me a ton of time
@robertclaytor51846 жыл бұрын
Not trying to argue just clarify... the thicker the pipe wall on the branch the more post cut adjustment will be necessary... wouldn't comment if I hadn't used this method many times myself. This method does work particularly well for making a template once this is accomplished as you suggested. Again thanks for the video

If you attached the wire to the angle and let it sticking out , then bend it down and out until it is even with the top of the riser . Then you can put a marker in the middle of the angle at the back . Move the angle around the bigger pipe with the wire touching the header and the marker will mark the riser at the same time

Why draw all the lines? Rather than using a welding rod, should you not just use that piece of angle iron (sharpened to a point at one end) to transfer the information?
@robmckennie42035 жыл бұрын
i believe you're going to distort the geometry more the higher the "stylus" is off the surface of the pipe, you're going to be projecting the points for a bigger pipe down onto the smaller pipe. you could mitigate this by setting the point right at the surface of the pipe, but it will only be accurate for that size of pipe. makes me think that there may be a hole in the market for an adjustable tool for doing this, hmmmm.....

Just remember when you go to cutting don't cut on the line leave the line so that the fit is a lil to tight so then you can use your grinder to get it fine tuned for a perfect fit.

There is a problem with this method... for a proper full penetration weld the INSIDE of the lateral must match. Your method will require trial and error adjustment with a grinder to accomplish this... no longer a 30 min job. Thanks for the video anyway

Why not use the angle iron to get the distances from the main pipe and skip drawing all those lines and using the stick rod?
@BadassWeldingVideos6 жыл бұрын
try it, wont work.
@adameast12265 жыл бұрын
If he were to tack a long tig wire to the top of the angle, leave a foot sticking off one side and bend it down at the end and then back strait out to where it was even with the top of the pipe, then at the back ,bend it up and over like a candy Kane and cut it off about 3 inches above the pipe, tape a sharp to it. Then you can move the angle around the pipe with the wire touching the header, and it will mark the riser at the same time....your welcome
@lxmzhg5 жыл бұрын
I weld a rod along either of the two edges of the angle iron (not the top of the angle). This way I don't have to draw any lines nor do I need a helper, and it is more accurate. edit: The rod is of course long enough to reach the other pipe.
