More pipefitting/fabrication videos please!, new people getting into welding is going to be hard getting a job without knowing how to fit/fab after finishing welding school, unless you’re really plugged in good.

As a pipefitter for 50 years, I say you are smoking! Never saw a blue book when I did it, just a wrap around. Made some nice fits in the inner bottoms of those Navy ships. Ingalls Pascagoula. Thanks for what you do.

Would’ve been easier to use receipt paper. Get your circumference. Fold 4 times and cut the corners off. Put it back around pipe. That’ll lay out your 16 marks.
@southpaw6022 жыл бұрын
its a school. obviously a veteran journeyman out on the field is gonna speed up the process with tons of little tricks like what you mentioned. learning the long/thorough way of doing something and then figuring out how to do it an easier and faster way is part of what makes you better at anything you do as opposed to learning how to cut corners from the get go.

@@richarddavis1413 I teach pipefitting at CMEF in laporte TX and I teach them receipt paper or drywall tape. I show them the center finder and level and square but they ain't making top pay and it's faster and just as accurate. no sense in taking 45 minutes when you can do it in 5

I learned with receipt paper. And some old timers would get in your ass for using a tape instead of a stick rule
@paulmeersa71622 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this. A bit of coverage of the cut angles on the header and branch would be useful for many. Could also cover sit in, sit through and sit on with no header opening, that would be just the ticket guys!

When I oxy cut I like to use some developer spray (for dye penetration testing). When you scribe through it leaves a really fine line and the white colour contrasts really well with the dark steel. I can see my markings clear as day when I’ve got my screen on.

The way I had been taught in my local was that the circumference of the pipe is listed in one of the books, or you could measure it, then divide that by your 16 sections. I do like this method, but I'm not sure I trust those centering levels that much. Great video guys. Please keep it up. I've been watching weldtube since y'all started

How long did this whole process take? I could see myself easily spending 3 or 4 hours maybe even more just cutting everything out and fitting it up. I’m in welding school right now and I’m just curious how long this would usually take and how long would be acceptable in the eyes of an employer
