You do a really good job of explaining things. Only comment is, there is a lot of technique involved when you do things and technique makes the difference. So, when you say "just lightly sand it" you might consider actually showing how you sanded it -- how you held the paper, the stroke, the contact, why you sanded as much or as little as you did, what areas you emphasized, if any -- to get that particular look. You have a great voice and, again, really explain things well and that keeps people interested and engaged -- showing what you mean for those of us who are new to woodworking would be that much more helpful. I'll be checking out your other videos -- great stuff! Thanks for sharing your talents. And your cat -- too cool.

do you think it would come out like this if I did the gray first? I stained a coffee table (planned on just doing one coat of gray) but I don't like the look.. too silver blueish loking. Thinking if I do the kona color on top it will come out better. I used a brush but will try the shirt next

+guyrelax Yeah, you'll just have to play around with it a little. I get the comment all the time, " I rubbed the gray on it and it looks too gray." That's when finessing it comes into play. There has to be layers to give of the textured look. Good luck with your project!

Good methods, very nice effects. Don't chew gum on video, its not nice. Music was too loud, had to turn off sound. Give your cat Egg Yolk Lecithin 600 mg 2 x day. Go thru 2 bottles per year. This shrinks the fat around the hairballs, and out they come. Also bathe and brush your cat once a month. Less hair ingested. I lost my old cat this year and pretty sure it was some hairball blockage which they could not find on Xrays or Sonogram. So make sure you do the Lecithin removal. Very safe and very effective.

A Fat Cat Video. Glad i found this. I'm building a pine slab table top with live edges. For the base it'll use seasoned ash for its strength. The ash will have the live edge as well showing on the rails between the legs. Ive been wandering how i was gonna tie the two totally different woods together with finish. This layering technique should fit the bill. Also i plan to make rustic chairs cor this same slab dining table and plan to use white oak thats seasoned so hopefully itll all blend in.

Hey man, I tried this an came up with a cool weathered look but lacked the strong contrast stripe effect you were able to do. Did you allow the kona to dry completely before going with the sun bleached? Or did you just do it immediately after? Also, love the videos man. Keep it up.

Hi emailed you a while back I'm not sure if you remember me I have a cat like yours :-) I try that technique that you show in this video and I want to send you a picture of the stain I did. It doesn't stay I don't know if the wood your using is Raw old wood and has more texture . I'm trying to do it on Pine and I sanded it down because it was originally shellacked, and it's not taken the color like yours it so I'm wondering if you can offer suggestions do I have to do it in paint instead!

Would this work on pallet wood? If so, would I have to sand the wood prior to staining or just in between stain colors? I’m making a bar for my basement completely out of pallets. I plan on finishing the bar in black paint, but want to stain the counter boards different tones like this. The top will be finished with a resin called envirotex (if you’ve never used it, it’s awesome BTW 😊)

I plan on making an "aged" and "distressed" american flag out of old wood from a crate or fencing. I was wondering what you think the best option was : should I paint it first then "age it with a vinegar/steel wool mixture or use the mixture first, paint it, then take the sandpaper to it? I would like it to look dirty and possibly unbleached (tannish) once I sand it .... Thoughts?

I know that you slightly sand the wood after all is done, but do u sand it before anything is applied to it (when it's bare)? Also, can you make a slab of "redwood" look more distressed? We are using redwood to make a kitchen island! I just took it to get planned... unfortunately, I had did all the hard work already! I removed the bark and sanded the slab just to find ripples at the end.... I took the slab bk to the place I bought it from to have it planned and the guy said that I had did a great job sanding it which was awesome to hear bc it was my first time sanding ever with NO experience!
