Typically, I don’t do a whole lot of mixing with my supersaw stacks. If you want everything to sound thick, I recommend using 5 or 6 layers in total: clean sub, mid bass (thick crunchy low-mids with subs and highs cut out), 2-3 chord stacks, and a crazy arpeggio (to keep some movement). If you use 3 chord stacks, make one of them with a phaser effect for even more movement. Adjust volumes as you see fit. Each chord stack should be slightly different. I recommend playing around with the unison width, octave, and waveform. Even make your own waveform if you wanna be fancy!

Yup. This is exactly how you do it. This is THE BEST way. Too many tutorials on KZbin with strange methods and tricks like not showing you the post processing. Love how Ovrsmpld shows himself dropping OTT and actually touching the knobs the way he likes it. Same with the flavor he put on the bass layer. alright i'm outta here, great stuff.

I'd say it all depends. If you have a vst that has a bunch of oscillators or sound generators you can have every part of the spectrum covered in one sound. I'd say it's a matter of experimentation.

Nice video, though I wonder if you can even consider the bass as part of the supersaw. I'm still learning, but the latest pad I made used a similar process, and it was my best yet. I'd add that sometimes changing the chords of individual layers may help to avoid clutter, it did for me at least.

@Oversampled
@Oversampled 5 жыл бұрын
Damn, I don't know much about music theory itself :P I write chords by ear. I use minor, major chords, 7ths, 9ths, I usually invert some chords and double some notes up/down an octave

same, I'm impressed that you got your example progression in the video to sound directional though, like it's not just a super basic 2-4 chord loop. my progressions usually sound random and aimless.

@@wibbletonwobs9150 The example chord progression is from a MIDI chord progression pack. I definitely know this, because when I first heard it, I loved it so much that I learned how to play it on the piano. I think it was from Cymatics, but I'm unsure.
