There is no apple on this fruit platter but if you decided to use sliced apple, you would want to toss it in a thin coating of an acidic ingredient such as vinegar or citrus juice. The acid will keep the sliced apple from oxidizing and turning brown.

i might try to hit up the farmers market before it closes, which is in a couple weeks(gets too cold here up north) but if if i have to im sure if i find a producer of the melon i could go pick some up right from their farm lol. is their any other not so common melons or fruits in general you could recommend as well? ive been trying to try new fruits lately

another way would be to let the apples soak in a salt and water mixture. ( 3/4 tsp salt per cup of water). Let it soak in the mixture for a few minutes. This would help the apples from browning as quickly. Also, be sure to use a sharp knife to cut the apples, it would make the apples last longer.

yes i actualy did see the orange flesh melons, but didnt bother picking it up, i may do that next time. and just a random question, any ideas on how to make a cantaloupe syrup? like for making soda with and such? i bought one and though, just add the fruit, sugar and a bit of water to a pot, boil it till the fruit is very soft and theres a nice liquid and strain it, but the cantaloupe got a very bitter taste. so i guess i will have to make a simple syrup and blend with melon. any ideas?

you did a good job. i think it would look better served in the melon rinds as bowls to hold the fruit. you could cut the rinds into different shapes and then put the fruit in the rinds. make a design out of the rinds. that would be pretty.

Yeah, you know, sometimes I want to do something really complex, but my purposes isn't to show off. At the end of the day, I want to teach people how to re-create something that they hopefully can enjoy. But now that I have a simple fruit platter out there, maybe I should go back and shoot a more advanced version for cooks like you. This may have to do with the quality of the melon. Watermelon is a summer fruit, so if you live in the western hemisphere and have tried this recently, it could just mean that the watermelon has had to travel from far away, and degraded in quality during it's journey to your kitchen. This can also be caused by a dull knife, rupturing the cellular structure of the melon, releasing more liquid. Also, I'll pre-cut all my melons and place them on a tray, lined with parchment paper. Any excess liquid stays on the tray after I transfer to the mirror for final presentation. If there's still excess liquid, you can blot up with a paper towel.

the vinegar is a good tip, i actually never heard that before, but the fruits look a bit sloppy like that. too much trying to fit together irregular shapes, i think. at least do the end pieces of watermelon (which stick up too much like this imo) so that they curve down at the end rather than poking up oddly. (ie face the two sides together so its like slices of a whole half of a melon shingled down the middle.)

try mixing 1tbsp lemon juice to 1/2 cup water then spritzing the content sporadically over the apples. Repeat process if needed.

i thought at the beginning stages the fruit in layering was in preparation for the assembly for the fruit to lay down flat. Such great mirror space wasted and space used for not very good presentation in my opinion...too bad cause melons and pineapple are so good!
