I taught myself English at about 12 years old, mostly because I moved to a private school and had never had an English lesson in my life, which caused me to struggle a lot, eventually having to take extra classes. After getting the hang of it, I was determined to become fluent. I started with Duolingo but soon quit and moved on to the approach that truly helped me. Since I'd already learned the basics in school, I started watching American shows on Netflix, the first one was Fuller House. At first I didn't understand much, so I'd see every scene several times, with no subtitles, English subtitles, Portuguese (my native language) subtitles and finally with no subtitles again. I'd write down expressions and words I didn't know and repeat them out loud. Not once did I pick up a grammar book, but in order to learn how to properly use the Present Perfect, for example, I watched English KZbin videos. I would talk to myself all day and look up whatever words I didn't know how to say in English. As far as vocabulary is concerned, I used flashcard apps. I realized I had become fluent when I hardly ever had to search for words while talking and could understand 80-90 per cent of everything I listened to, which took about a year and a half. From that point, I kept on practicing my listening and speaking skills and focused on sounding natural, linking words in a sentence, using more contractions, etc. About a year and a half ago, my parents decided to sign me up for actual English lessons to do some brushing up. It turns out I got to skip several stages, which would be equivalent to 5 years of studying. Through the course, I've brought my writing and grammar skills to a whole new level. I'll be taking the CAE exam this year in June after finishing the prep course. That was a long comment, but I just wanted to share my experience and possibly motivate the language learning community. Bear in mind: with dedication and a positive mindset, you can do anything.

OMG THATS SO GOOD, ive known how to speak english all my life I Know Urdu,potawri and hindi I want to learn spanish. Im going to start of with watching shows, i already know the alphabet but hopefully I can try and get fluent at it , How long did you practise english a day??
@Melissa-bb4xd3 жыл бұрын
@@officialbismah wow, that's really impressive considering that those are highly difficult languages. Since it's been a while since I learned English, I can't recall exactly how many hours a day I dedicated to it, but I'd say I used to watch around 2 episodes and practice speaking throughout the day, since I had a lot of spare time. For Spanish, I recommend Colombian shows, there's The White Slave(top-notch), La Nina(shows the reality of the country), The queen of the flow(revenge, romance, exciting). You said you know the alphabet, but have you learned the basics already?

Algo que también te puede ayudar es ver los videos/ películas o series con subtítulos en inglés, eso te ayudara muchísimo a mejorar tus habilidades al escribir. I’m currently studying Korean and Japanese but have around 10 languages on my bucket list. I’ve been studying Korean for the last two and a half years and I feel like I’m not going anywhere as I have no speaking practice and I can’t afford workbooks to practice that way. But, I am going to start university late September and that’s going to be a BA in Korean. I want to become a translator and go into translation publishing or something similar and hope that my degree will push me to continue. However, the course I am taking does start from the beginning. Thankfully, they allow students to take a placement test in order go to the “accelerated route” which means I can skip the basics. I really hope to spend the next four months ensuring my Korean is solid enough to skip ahead. Also, I will spend my second year in Korea as part of my degree so I will have to study hard alongside my university work! Thank you for this amazing video and the motivation! Can’t wait to see more and hope you progress well in all your languages! Edit: Thanks to the no-no virus, our year abroad is moving to third year (just gotta wait a little longer to get some proper practice). Thank you for a lot of advice in the comments!

Same, but I'm Polish! The amount of false friend words is so weird haha, like чашка (chashka) means 'skull' in Polish and "cup" in Russian... But at least the alhabet is kind of easy to learn, I was able to learn it by reading a cleverly written text that was orginally written with "our" letters in Polish, but the author gradually changed the latin (ig?) letters to Russian letters and Polish has almost all the sounds Russian has so it was waay easier and quicker to learn than it probably is for people who don't speak slavic languages. :) And it's probably easier to get lazy and be like "eh it's almost like in so I don't have to remember it" and then you just improvise and end up speaking your language with a Russian accent hahahaa

I agree that 10 minutes a day isn’t enough to actually learn a language (maybe if you do it for 20 or 30 years!), but it will definitely help to solidify what you have already learned.

I’d like to add an extra tip with regards to watching movies and tv shows to learn a language: I especially recommend Disney movies because the acting, animation, and facial expressions are very exaggerated, which makes it easier to follow along with the plot, even if you don’t understand everything being said. Another tip is to watch a movie that you’ve already seen before (in your own language), but in a different language. That way, you already know the plot, but you’re still learning a new language. Good luck!

Here are some tips about how I teached myself fluent English in about 8-9 months by myself at age 8: •KZbin, is probably the biggest reason I can speak fluent English. I watched music videos with lyrics, random KZbinrs who speaks clear English, small to no accent (take that as you want), Gacha music videos (they have music, lyrics and you can sense what's going because of the pictures) •Try to make it simple. Learn the basics, then you can start learning the language rules •Notes. If you're learning a language, try to write down the words you're learning, and then write what it means in your native language. Example: Je suis= I am (that's French by the way). If you do take notes, maybe write down how you pronounce it (this helps me a lot now that I'm trying to learn French) • Don't skip classes. Skipping classes can put you behind on your work, and in learning the language. Even if it's only one class (but, if you're sick, stay home) • If you have family members or friends that can speak the language you wanna learn, try to talk with them. (I didn't really do this, but I think it would help others) • Books, *Audio books*, Movies and Videos • Do it if you're interested • Make time for it. If that for you is sitting and reading a book, or lay down and watch a movie, whatever you prefer. Make time and take time You can use these for learning any language, I know she did say most of it already, but yeah. I hope this was helpful in some way or another (I also use these tricks a lot when I'm in French class)

I watched video by Med School Insiders the video ‘Helpful, unhelpful, and useless study techniques’. To summarize his video you need to use active recall in order to recall information for a long time. How? First you need to understand what you fully don’t grasp yourself, second memorize by going over what you don’t understand yourself this sounds alike the first step, but the third step use active recall without looking at the answers and quizzing yourself on areas where you need to grow. I’m unsure how you study Korean, but since memorization is hard for you. Comprehension is most important if you want to understand what certain word, phrase or sentence means. Understanding must come first before memorizing which helps with long term memory, if you study that other way actually it leads to weaker long term grasp. This what happens when you try to memorize flash cards by not understanding the problem areas where you need to grow. You need to quiz yourself again on the ones you need more help on which leads to long term memory. I hope this helps. Reference: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWLGiWtvjcyki68 Channel: Med School Insiders

Ariana I’ll give you an example of how you can memorize a word effectively in another language. For example, what does cherry blossoms mean in Japanese? Sakura! What are other Japanese variants for Sakura? Hanami, and Senbonzakura (for thousand cherry blossoms). In order to understand a certain language understanding what it means in the native language before deciphering in English.

With the whole TV show/movie thing, I recommend watching more of the “real life” ones. So instead of watching super dramatic shows, I watch variety shows in Korean. For example, for kpop fans, there are sooo many variety shows created by groups, such as: RUN BTS, GOT7ing, as well as ‘behind the scenes’ type videos, such as: Bangtan Bomb, Twice TV, Astro Ddocca, etc. And for non-kpop fans, there are regular variety shows and episodes can be found all over KZbin. These are more useful in my opinion as the words and phrases are normally more natural. Sometimes watching a show without English (or your native language) subtitles and Korean (or the language you are learning) can be beneficial. For example, I was too lazy to turn my VLIVE subtitles from Korean to English and so I watched 3 episodes of RUN BTS without English and I understood WAY more than I did when I had either both languages or just English up and was trying to write down words or phrases. Sometimes you know more than you think and this is a great way to notice that. And of course, it’s okay not to understand everything!

I’m Swedish, and if you’re learning Swedish and you’re confused by anything you can ask me because I have nothing else to do 🌚 Edit: so I realized that since I’m never on this account I didn’t even notice you, besides I can’t have any social media rn. But my tips for now is 1. Try watching Swedish KZbinrs. Since they are native speakers they pronounce the words more naturally, so that could help. 2. Read Swedish books, or anything in Swedish tbh. It helps your grammar and if you might learn new words. 3. Set your phone language to Swedish. If you do that you get to use and see the language more. I could come up with tons of more tips but sadly I am too lazy to write them. What I’m trying to say is use the language as much as possible and try to listen to it a lot too. Now of course you should also try to *study* too. I’m just saying that only studying using books or watching like “SwEdishPoD101” Isn’t going to take you that far. Anyways hope it helped and that you’re not too disappointed 🌚🌚🌚 (but of course if there is something that you’re confused about you could ask me since I’m probably going to use this account more now.🌝)

I've actually been actively learning Esperanto, idk what attracts me so much towards the language but it just calls out to me. The culture behind it and it's history is very existant and detailed, and unfortunately a good portion of its beginning is unfortunately bleak (Stalin and Hitler), due to this there's this type of deep understanding between Esperantists which is just very difficult to explain.

I watch a lot of Dutch youtubers to get familiar with the language (one of my favorites is Jesse Hoofnagels). @Tara-jj6li3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I thought it might be useful if I correct you on some of your spelling and wording so heres this! The only things I will say are that in the first paragraph on the last sentence it should say "I can be fluent in this language!" In the first tip "chindren " should be spelled "children" The begining part of your third tip doesn't make sense, maybe instead of saying "practicing my speaking recording my voice about my day..." you could say "Practice speaking by recording my voice about my day" (This still sounds a little strange but it makes a lot more sense) on the fourth point, instead of saying "lyrics of songs" say "song lyrics" on point 5, "diccionary" should instead be "dictionary". On the last sentense using the word "I" does work but the word "i'll" sounds better On tip 6 your examples would be better worded by saying (" using podcasts, youtubers, singers, or random interviews) im not sure if you know this or not but in the English language, all languages are capitalized including the word "English" But anyway your English is really great so keep practicing!

Ari L I would recommend watching content in French like KZbin videos (I would recommend Squeezie, Seb la frite, Pierre Croce, Léopold, and for Canadian French Lysandre Nadeau and Thomas Gauthier) Also French music from the 50-60s because their prononciation is very clear and you can gather a lot of vocabulary (Barbara, Brassens, Brel, Edith Piaf) For reading if you just started maybe you can start with poetry so you’re not too overwhelmed with the sentences (Prévert is great for beginners)

in brief: In this video, Beatrice shares her passion for language learning and provides tips on how to learn a new language effectively. She emphasizes the importance of choosing a language you're genuinely interested in and setting clear objectives. She also recommends gathering resources like a notebook, grammar resources, translator, dictionary, and flashcards. Beatrice also shares some ideas for language learning activities: 1-Set your devices to your target language 2-Journal in your target language 3-Listen to podcasts in your target language 4-Listen to songs in your target language 5-Immerse yourself in the language by listening and paying attention to words you can pick out. 6-Study lyrics and learn new words and grammar. Practice listening and speaking with native speakers, such as through a tutor. 7-Make sentences in your target language throughout the day and learn themed vocabulary based on your interests. 8-Actively watch TV shows and follow social media accounts in the language for exposure. 9-Study vocabulary by incorporating new words into sentences and practice pronunciation. 10-Find friends learning the same language to support and motivate each other. 11-Identify your weak areas and focus on improving them. 12-Share your language learning experiences and engage with others who are studying or interested in studying languages. By following these tips and immersing yourself in different aspects of the language, you can improve your language skills and become fluent over time.
