You should probably learn Mandarin Chinese then :) Between English and Mandarin you should be able to communicate with close to 2-3 billion people. ASL has less than half a million :(

I've tried to learn a few times but I have past injuries in my hands that make some of the signs physically painful to do. Maybe it would be good physical therapy but its hard to get yourself to practice when it hurts. Once though, I went to an ASL learning club and met a woman that was fluent because both her parents were deaf. She was at the learning club to try tutoring because she had an odd scruple she wanted to rid herself of. She said she _hated_ speaking and signing at the same time because it felt wrong somehow. When she was signing, she subconsciously acted mute and only signed. I got busy with my school schedule and didn't end up going back but I wonder if she got over it.

Trying to sign made me realize that I don’t have good mobility with my hands either. Having raynaud’s im guessing is one factor into why it’s hard for me. If my fingers aren’t properly warm I can’t properly move them, and where I live the temp is consistently below 60 degrees Fahrenheit so my hands are usually cold.

On another note, you're not really meant to speak and sign at the same time anyway. Even Lizzy has mentioned this in some of her videos. So if your friend wants to be able to do both at the same time, that's great, but it's like trying to express two languages at once and not really necessary!

I love LifePrint! I was fluent as a child and as a bank teller I tried to use my ASL to help customers, I realized real quick things have changed!! Lol ASL has evolved since the late 70s 😂 seriously tho my customers are so excited to have a signer even if I'm clumsy and get the wrong signs. There's a large Deaf school here so I'm glad I get to use my newly and ever evolving skills. Thank you!!!

I just discovered Bill Vicars a few days ago, only watched part of a lesson but man it goes by so fast for how long it is. He's so enthusiastic and it's so wonderful watching someone sign in real time and he's such a good teacher. He's been posting for years and literally has everything like you said- I'm so glad he's created an entire class basically and completely free of charge, it's here on KZbin and there's a website he's on that I don't quite remember the name but if you search his name you're likely to find it and it has all of the major lessons organized and on a list which is great. Wonderful that he's made learning ASL so accessible and even making the videos entertaining despite it mainly only being him teaching sign. I've found learning asl from videos to be much easier to learn than from apps especially considering that most apps are only pay to learn, I'll for sure keep watching his videos more and hopefully learn basic asl soon as I am beginning to have issues hearing and I want to be able to communicate with everyone else in my life with difficulties verbally communicating. Your videos are also wonderful and make me really happy to see people with disabilities like me living their life as much as they want to. It's great seeing positive disability representation in media considering a lot of able bodied people are taught that having disabilities is when your life "ends". Thank you.

Currently using life print with Bill Vicars. I love it. It's like a whole course and there is even an ASL dictionary with everything you want to know with complete explanations. And the lessons are on video and he's teaching someone so it's really really helpful. He even has readings on the history and many student teacher dialogs and extremely user friendly! There are even quizzes.

In elementary school we had a teacher who was supposedly fluent in ASL (a few people contested her fluency because she seemed to use the wrong form of a word often (like cheat) but instead of teaching us really anything super useful/beneficial, we learned the pledge of allegiance... I still remember it though. I remember the most random stuff. Still remember the Greek alphabet too.

Ilysm, My story is I have a girl in my class called Claire, we are both really good at reading, and writing, and making projects. I would say we are probably some of the smartest in our class. A different girl came up to me and told me she learn a little bit of asl. I told her that’s great. I started to do it too, me and Claire are friends so once I started doing asl she thought it was so beautiful just how I thought it was beautiful too. She decided to join. We learned slowly but yes we did learn. From words, to sentences, to songs! Of course a kid in my class named Colton decided he didn’t like it and wanted to mock us. He did that but then all our other friends saw what we were doing and wanted to join too! They joined and now we have a whole community that does asl with us! I love asl, I really do and I’m glad I could get other people to do it too❤❤
