But now, even when I have super important deadlines I just..don`t give a sh- This causes a lot of problems and becomes like a snowball that rolls and rolls over again. This extremely helped me: you need a complete distinction between your studying and relaxing routine. For example, I'm using two browsers. One is for study content. PURELY studying, not the Jordan Huberman's stoic videos. I even have two google accounts to avoid trash content pop up on my study account recommendation (I push "Don't recommend cahnnel" if I see this). The second one is for relaxing content. You need to somehow limit any access to anything that distracts you. Like go studying in library (not at home). While in a library put your phone in your bag (not on your table) etc. More limitations you have, the better result is. Basicaly it feels like you have no choice but studying. However, i'd avoid studying really fast (unless you're revising for exams). There was a time when I used to read almost every day, while usually I read only once a week. There was a huge difference in results. I almost forgot the book I was reading every day. Even revising didn't help. You either slow down, or focus on some other things instead. There should be a gap between studying if you want to remember anything.

This entire video was meant for me I really needed this and I appreciate you making a video for all the people like me that feel like they are stupid when really not everyone learns the same way and I like how you said it in such a kind manner instead of saying it in a mean way omg this was literally so pure and kind definitely subscribing and I will definitely use these methods and see how they work for me btw your not the only one that needs every single one of these methods but its nothing wrong with that because that's why you created this video to help people who are going through the same things you went through that's why we all have our own journeys in life because sometimes they can help other ppl dealing with the same thing.💗

Thank you for doing this. My process of learning is similar and I’ve faced many of the same problems, but without any supporting understanding of the why and how it works. Your explanation makes a lot of sense and I feel empowered to take more control. I’ve been told to “eat the frog” when completing daily tasks, but there was no explanation of why it worked, your solution to take the cold shower to reduce dopamine makes a lot of sense and lowers the barrier required to get a reward from the following task. This also explains why looking at my phone in the morning breaks my flow as my dopamine level is then set too high and any following task is unsatisfying. You’ve provided a number of tools I need to review and try for myself, thanks again for sharing.

I majored in Cognitive Science. Your statement of short term memory is correct. People usually have misconception about short term memory, it actually only last for 20-30 seconds. Here is the googled definition: Short-term memory (STM), also referred to as short-term storage, or primary or active memory indicates different systems of memory involved in the retention of pieces of information (memory chunks) for a relatively short time (usually up to 30 seconds).

Me too! I saw another comment that judged this video before getting to the 2 minute mark. She offers tons of great info on how to manage low dopamine around tasks and tricks for task prioritization. Some of this stuff I do as "productive procrastination" because sitting down to read a jargon heavy textbook without any real life context makes it impossible to focus on. But if I watch videos on the topic, whether educational and/or lived experience, I am able to start the process of understanding the concepts in broader context.

Things I learned that will work for me are First is that whatever information I m supposed to take I associate it with the memory and knowledge I already have . Then if I have to remember it I have to use different methods to do so , removing from my mind that I m dumb and can’t remember it. Different methods includes trying to learn by listening audios , making videos for it or using anke for spaced repetition. Also have to remember that procrastination can be overcomed using dopamine boost method , where I can spike up my dopamine levels by doing an unlikely task , which for me is organizing my room and doing workout also some days talking to people . It is very useful for me , will improve my studies applying then all ,thank uh so much❤

All I remembered from the pop quiz was something about portions. Lol one of the things that made learning tough before was similar to what you mentioned in your experiences. If you have a lapse in concentration and miss something or simply didn't hear it, you're trapped in the time bubble that follows where you can't go back and check so you have literally no understanding of everything that follows and the entire lesson is wasted. Plus you are also now demotivated because you feel completely lost and left behind.

I'm not a huge fan of textbooks either. My method is to skim over the entire text first and then reread just the parts I like in detail. For example, I'm reading a textbook on LLMs right now. After I finish, I'm not going to code every project in the book -- just the one or two of particular interest to me. I find this method of "selective learning" works well.

- 1. wake up and dopamine boost (something she hates in the video it’s cold shower) a. other tips to regenrate dopamine - doing nothing for a certain time and then dopamine will pike at anything you do - last minute because deadline at end b. decrease motivation in order to start a project ex: use chat gpt to start the first part of a presentation - 2. a deadline (timer or pre-deadline with friends for example ) **versatilize the methods** (listen, read , watch video) and **state-depending** (recreate the same environment as an exam to output easily info during exam or reverse = ex drunk-drunk) - 3.listen instead of reading textbooks (uses spechify to turn texts into audios) and walk at the same time ( motion help brain to filter out infos and directs attention on the RIGHT thing) ⇒ **UNDERSTAND** - make associations with examples that you already know (laundry) ⇒ mind maps (chatmind) - learn as a story( use AI to learn things as a story) - 4.pratice and review the things that she cannot do (math for example) ⇒ **REVIEW** - spaced repetition (3 days consecutive or 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 etc.) - 5.for sujects like history use flashcards or things that you have to memorize (anki) ⇒ **REVIEW** 📢 different environment for studying and relaxing (study on a desk and relax on the bed)

Ok so while this video was super interesting and entertaining, I had quite a hard time consolidating all of the information so much so that I had to STUDY the video in itself and take notes. So, if you are in a situation like this for any reason (hi neurodivergent neighbours), here is this video in a nutshell (and kinda reorganized): So, you want to study faster and learn things better? First, tackle procrastination! Motivation comes from dopamine and there are three ways that you can increase your dopamine. 1. Wait it out 2. Induce panic because oh my god I procrastinated for so long I have to write a 6000-word essay and deliver in the next three hours 3. Do something you really hate. Tina gives the example of taking a cold shower and it's basically the mindset of "take care of the worst task first so that the rest of your tasklist seems easier" Now, how do you concentrate on what you are learning? You can either 1.Induce an alert state through caffeine or any kind of motion (Tina gave the example of walking and listening to something) 2. Induce panic through deadlines, even if they are artificial, or by being in a study group and be held accountable 3. Generate an emotional response by thinking/remembering why you are studying the thing you are studying. You can also associate the subject to something you like or a story, like Tina said, make it seem like it could contribute to a story you created (or that you already know). How to make sure the information stays in your brain? 1. Spaced repetition + Active recalling to counter the forgetting curve (Any method of active recalling counts, like the Anki cards/Quizlet Tina mentioned) 2. Use different media to learn something (book, video, etc.) 3. Associate/Compare what you're learning with something you already know, like the laundry example. Remember that you shouldn't compare a fish to a monkey and therefore don't compare yourself to others! This was my own way of being my type of fish, and hopefully this helps someone else as well because when I finished the video for the first time, I felt a bit stupid lmao. Find out what works best for you and remember that there is no perfect study plan. As a translation student, I was taught that there is nothing perfect. That is why there are multiple movies of the same book or numerous translations. There will be always something that could be better in someone else's opinion and when we're studying, we don't have that critical eye telling us "You should've studied this way", so don't put that pressure on yourself as well! Welp, this was my contribution to this video which, as mentioned, was quite entertaining and helpful!! Have a wonderful day, to anyone who is reading this

I started studying again as I hit my 30s and was so positively surprised of how good I was. I mean, now that I'm older and only juggling 1-2 subjects at a time, on top of knowing how I learn best, studying became almost a breeze! However, all of that changed last year as I hoped on a program to learn webb development, learning things like python, PHP, databases and javascript. Now I feel just as stupid as I felt in high school during math class. It just doesn't want to click for me. I call myself having "teflon brain" 😅 I kind of know what the problem is. It's that I just can't relate the information to something I already know. My partner thinks I'm wrong for calling programming "abstract" but that's what it is. It's concepts you can't hold in your hand. Whatever learning tricks that worked for physics and chemistry doesn't work for programming. I'm six months in and my motivation has dropped tremendously. Deadlines don't even scare me anymore. I'm gonna try a cold shower in the morning and see if it has any effect on my procrastination.

@@TinaHuang1, lol, not here in Chicago, it’s almost 12noon! Also, might you consider listing in the description the various tools you mention in your videos? I listen while walking and would love the ability to return later and be able to remember all the (non-Hubspot, cuz that’s in the link) resources without rewatching the video when I’m pressed for time. Thanks!

Watching this as a computer science student is so jarring coz the examples she uses are all computer science related and I'm like "Hey, I know what a variable is"🤣

Have you ever been close to finishing a project and procrastinated because you already feel like you're finished with it and know what the outcome will be😅? Im trying to get through that part cuz it feels easier near the end but harder somehow lol.
