When you were a baby, you learned how to talk by listening and repeating words, and you can learn how to draw the same way. Drawing is a way to communicate with pictures instead of words!
For more information on taking that first step in learning to draw, check out the full video:

Wow the left handed thing was brilliant - so much of art is about understanding it’s not all about how well you can move the pencil. Thanks for the tips!

Well, if we're talking about digital art, there's nothing to worry about. Most drawing softwares have features to stabilize lines, so you don't have to worry about having a steady hand, just about making the right movements.
@daenite2480

@@RafaelLacer that's bad advice. Stabilizers should be used as a tool, not a crutch. If you over-rely on stabilizers and it's not due to something like shaky hands, then all you're doing is severely impeding your rate of improvement.

It's important to just make drawings for fun sometimes. Have wonky proportions, busted linework and more. But making a thing with the spirit of abandon just because. Try revisiting some of the things that made you want to draw in the first place. I find that helps a lot.

I'm no one to talk about stuff like that but I wanted to say this, I do have struggles concentrating (luckily can concentrate for 30 to 40 minutes with some will power) and I find drawing kinda helpful, as it's a way for me to pass time doing something and also trying to improve my attention time limit. Even if it's something I don't enjoy as a passion at all, it's like just making up something simple but challenging at the same time.

@@justsomerandomguy6042 oh no I know that!! I've been drawing for years now, drew my crappy pfp lmao, but because it's untreated and I believe causing my other problems like depression, it gets really really hard to do something as simple as feeding myself, to where I just won't for days. Hard to draw then lmao-- I can concentrate on a drawing until it's finished if I'm really into it, anything else I just procrastinate and absolutely hate, I really gotta make myself do it like you described or I just won't ahah. I've actually been drawing a lot lately and I'm really proud of that! Got 4 flat colored done in about a day so I'm happy with that!! I love drawing and always have, but it's so hard to just keep drawing you know? @@MartianCandies thx, my family has told me before that I surely had depression, and if it's so (which I guess is true bc I'm always in some mental trouble), then I could say I've always had depression even without knowing it. But I'm doing my best to overcome it even with a little shitty social circle (mainly comparisons and jokes about what I do in my free time which is considered failure-like habits), in Argentina this is no new thing, it always happens (people shaming on other people), but it's so annoying when it's about something you want to change for your well-being and they don't seem like caring about it, not even your family.

So... Fun fact, my handwriting sucked in school, to the point it was affecting my grades. I Struggled with drawing too, but not as much with shading as just getting the shapes and proportions right. The year after I graduated high school, I started practicing my art more, since it was a hobby I enjoyed. Less than 2 years later I realized that my handwriting had wildly improved, in spite of the fact I rarely wrote anything by hand. Guess what I was struggling with was the intentional and precise movement. Practicing my art and getting better at putting down the shapes and proportions ended up improving that, which improved my handwriting without me practicing it.

How have you done this, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m not able to write by hand at all; my OTs all gave up on teaching me and I was referred for a tablet to type instead. I literally cannot _trace_ simple lines or curves accurately. It physically feels like I’m moving the same way as the lines I see, but they all go the wrong ways or they’re oriented wrong; when I trace lines I literally watch my own line stray further and further away but I can’t correct it. When I try to draw lines on my own it’s no different; my S’s are flat infinity signs, or m’s, or they only have one curve and they’re severely rotated the wrong way. I don’t feel any of this happening. I’ve been studying the fundamentals seriously for a decade now, seven years of which were daily hourslong art sessions that ended up turning me into a basket case and I stopped eating due to the stress, and I still can’t trace a single curve. I don’t think I’m capable of learning, but I’m so desperate to be wrong. I’m willing to try anything to fix myself at this point!
@frostnovaomega1152
@frostnovaomega1152 11 ай бұрын
@@jasond.b-w oh yeah that does sound like quite the struggle- My coordination issues are definitely less severe, but what helped me was: 1. Drawing lines over and over again. I can often get sort of close to where i want my hand to go, so i'll draw a line over and over again so it eventually approximates the line that i want, then i'll clean it up with an eraser 2. I do details digitally Digital art programs are harder to draw with, but functions like zoom and undo make for pretty handy cheats 3. When working traditionally, i use mediums that can be easily "corrected" mainly pencils and acrylics. But yeah this is all with the caveat that my hand still cooperates around 20% of the time, so i can get something usable *eventually* So i'm not sure how applicable it is for your situation, but i hope there's still something useful here?

My issue with drawing is that my brain pretends to know something it doesn't know. If I just try to replicate a reference, it's not that bad, but if I want to be a bit creative, i can't imagine the drawing properly. For example instead of imagining eyes in a certain place, I just know they should be somewhere on the face and shouldn't look weird. It looks good in my imagination, because my brain ignore the fact that it doesn't know exactly where the eyes should be and just assumed they don't look weird. When I draw, i need to put them somewhere and then the illusion breaks. Maybe some practice would help, but before I decide to start drawing i already have to go to sleep
