Resistance relates to a force that opposes motion. If a pike picks up the bait and swims perfectly horizontal to the lead swivel the resistance in relation to the lead weight is irrelevant until the line engages the weight. Then a heavier weight the more force will be needed to move it so a heavier weight will create more resistance. The rig with the least resistance would be a free lined bait.

Pike don't like resistance but what they really hate is changes in resistance. If the lead moves and drags along the bottom, that's when they are likely to drop the bait. I agree free lining is best if you can get away with it
