My question. I have declared all of my crypto on every year for taxes but I question whether or not it’s legitimate for the US to tax you on crypto that you hold when you leave the country when you have not cashed it out and realized an actual gain. Obviously if you stay inside the United States you wouldn’t automatically be taxed just because cryptocurrency prices went up but only when you actually cash that out or transact it into a different cryptocurrency and that is what makes it a taxable event. I’m not certain that what is being said here is 100% accurate but I’ve also not tried to leave the country right after a CRYPTO boom. I think to be 100% certain you would have to talk to a tax professional about all of this inside the US.

Layah, it would be great if you interviewed with Andrew Henderson on these topics. He's probably the most well versed person out there, nomad capitalist. Sadly those of us that are US citizens, we cannot use some of these more basic move out of country strategies to eliminate taxes. There are more complex strategies to legally get rid of taxes and keep citizenship but it requires a lot of trust. As for renouncement of US citizenship, that isn't always practical for most people.

Thank you for the info and I agree with the overall narrative but this is factually incorrect. A US citizens pays taxes no matter where we live and you could avoid paying taxes to the local jurisdiction, Dubai, but not to the US. You could exclude 112K earned income if you live out of the US in some cases. And you could offset your US capital gain taxes (passive income) with taxes paid to other countries, but if you paid no taxes to the UAE, you will NOT pay 0% taxes on your crypto gains in the US. You will probably pay up to 23.8% in long term capital gains and regular tax rates on short term gains. I like you, I really do but video is very misleading and can get people into a lot of trouble or even in jail. You could use some strategies to minimize this hit, but it is different for everybody. The title of this video and the first few minutes are incorrect. Before you do something like this, if you are a US citizen, consult a tax professional who knows about international taxation, not HR Block or a regular CPA. FYI: This applies to the US, most countries will not tax you once you are not longer a tax resident of that country, but this video makes a lot of references to the US and US citizens. [e-mail]

Don't want to scare you but from experience I can tell, UAE is expensive to grow kids or have a family. Unless you have a secure job with a specific amount of salary. The schools are super expensive an not so good in terms of teachers, not really caring to give the best knowledges to your kids.. but you get the US or UK curriculum.
