How-to: LEGO Stunt Rally Sid Vacant

We're building Sid Vacant's car from LEGO Stunt Rally! I really like to build stuff from these older games. As a child I never quite knew how to build them. Also having the right pieces in the correct colours was always a struggle. With this serie I hope I can make it easier for everybody to make their favourite LEGO creations to scratch that nostalgia itch. Unfortunately I cannot make videos about all the of cars. Some of them use pieces that simply don't exist in real life. But I'll do as many as I can. 😁
I had a blast rebuilding the garage from the game. You think you remember exactly how something looked when spending so much time there. But I never noticed the purple hoses for example. So it was kind of like replaying the game for the first time. Designing the UI (user interface) was a bit of a challenge. This game originally came in a 4:3 ratio. My video's are mostly 16:9, so that meant updating all the visuals to the modern times. I also changed some icons, to be made out of actually LEGO. I hope you'll notice them.
Sid Vacant is a fantastic character. He is my favourite and I think a lot of people really adored him. So much attitude and a fantastic car design. I just love that they put him in front of the police station. Designing this character was a lot of fun. I even added the custom mohawk, which jiggles a bit for the extra effect.
This car didn't require much alterations to get right. As many of you will know: purple is a very difficult colour to work with in LEGO. But you can build it in magenta, which looks very similar. The only thing I added were the light gray plate and panel pieces next to where the character sits. The game didn't have those, but I added them so you can't see through the wheel well. It's up to you.
Unfortunately there is no official minifigure for Sid Vacant. However, there is a CMF figure that seems very similar to Sid Vacant. That one is called Punk Rocker and came in Series 4. He even has a mohawk in magenta. There are some other slight differences but I am very happy we have him. I think it's the perfect substitution.

A few years back, i tried to recreate Sid's car in Lego's proprietary studio creation software. It was a lot of guesswork and it was by far not as efficient as this model (I used too many stacked plates, etc.). Now that a younger version of Sid Vacant exists as an actual minifigure, i guess it's time for me to revisit his car. it reminds me of a 1980's foxbody Ford Mustang with a larger engine. It was one of my favourite cars in Stunt Rally. I especially loved it in Chip's livery.

I see what people mean by it looking like a 1979 Mustang, but I have alway seen it as an 80s British GM model. Vauxhall Viva or Cavalier. Especially the racecars versions in Thundersaloon.

So a few years ago, I built a version of this using images of a real life version that someone had made. It was slightly different, the purple bricks were red and there was no yellow. I recreated that car digitally in 2k drive.

Thank you! Baron's car is actually tricky to build accurately. The red grill piece at the front doesn't exist in red unfortunately. I'm trying to find a workaround that is satisfying enough, but so far I haven't found it.

LEGO Stunt Rally could have been decent if it wasn't so hand holdy and restrictive to the player. Makes me want to see someone tackle a remake of the game that doesn't hold anything back, including make Mr. X stay gone once you've turn him off.

@@StudframeAnimations The problem wasn't that it was a kids game, it was that it was made for young kids in mind. These were the same people behind LEGO Loco, which was also aimed at young children. LEGO Stunt Rally wasn't held in the same regard as LEGO Racers, because of how much it held your hand, down to the gameplay itself. Whereas LEGO Racers was challenging and treated their target demographic as regular kids who were accustom to gaming. Even LEGO Racers 2 with its tutorials, didn't try to guide the player when it came to the races itself. LEGO Stunt Rally has potential to be good if it didn't treat you like a little child, and now that the people who played the game are adults, a community made remake should cater to said players while attracting new ones with these features removed. It can have new content and features if developers are determined enough, but removing all the hand holding should be priority number one.

Hahah I see where you're going with this. The Stunt rally cars are quite a lot bigger than the LEGO Racers ones. Sid Vacant's car is roughly 1.5 times as long as Rocket Racer's. It would fit, but it looks a bit strange. 😂

I am curious how Turbocharger and Brad Speedos F1 cars looks next to eachother, same with Rocket Racer and Mr X's racers. The sound from Mr X car is so unique. Shame it didn't cameo in LR2.
