Great to see you back! Man, getting two improvements for every character in a single session is WILD. My first thought was that there must have been other factors at work. Like, if this was an ongoing campaign, people probably started the session with some experience marked already. And then there’s move-based experience. Maybe there was a Mundane with Always the Victim, and a couple people protected them? Or people asked the Expert for advice? But even then, for EVERYONE to get 6 experience, minimum (and very likely more), the dice must have been hitting the table like mad. Leftover D&D instincts, probably; it happens in just about every narrative game. Every time I hear a GM for 7th Sea 2nd edition call for a “Wits plus Notice check”, I cry a little on the inside.

In the game my teens played as younger teens in the 90s. I took grid paper and drew roads. Each player rolled a dice, even pile one, odd pile two. Pile one was locations like school, library, store, etc. Pile 2 was rumors, famous thing (like a statue), etc. The teens loved it and it made the little town totally seem like their little town. Each episode they tried to save a classmate or help someone. I set it in the 90s so none of them had cellphones and also in the 90s running around down at the age of 12-13 no one cared. The kids had fun and each episode things slowly build up. In the end they went to hell to save the town from the curse and ended up killing the king and placing the tiny imp librarian as the king. They had so much fun.

YAY a new post! Glad to see you posting again. I've been running MotW for about a year now. Your videos have been golden as there isn't much MotW content for a novice. Many thanks and i hope to see more in the months to come. I do have a Luck related question; do you ever create ways for players to recover used luck aside from a luck reset for each game?
@RollWithMePod
@RollWithMePod Ай бұрын
Lots of questions about Luck recently! I’m gonna have to do a deep dive. Short answer, no, I’m a big fan of the “sh*t out of luck” mechanic of MotW. Some playbooks have unique ways to recover luck, so in most cases I’d rule that restoring luck slots in other narrative ways would cheapen those playbooks and lessen the intended impact of luck in general.

I tend to lean on higher number of rolls than average. But also, I'm in line with one roll to one thing. Like for investigate, if two people have very different things they are investigating that's two different rolls: ie: The Spooky is using The Sight to investigate weird supernatural presences vs the Expert doing a forensic analysis vs the Mundane interviewing someone... three different Investigate rolls with different sorts of info possible.
@RollWithMePod
@RollWithMePod 5 күн бұрын
I can totally jive with that. I leaned into a reserved take on rolls for this video mostly to get people thinking more intentionally about the use of them. The number will vary from session to session and all ideas from the hunters should be pursued, but I think it’s also important to remember that each roll is an opportunity for a big shift in the plot, and spreading them out a little more will not just save us from a lot of paperwork, but also help to make each roll feel more important.

Great video, huge fan of MotW. I have been working on an adaptation (not changing the rules, just playbook tweaks etc.) to run Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jujutsu Keisen style games (borrowing ideas from AVATAR, Friendship Effort Victory and Codex of Worlds). MotW story structure feels like a better fit than some other games.

See I allow multiple Investigations, but I require they have to list off the "avenue of Investigation", regarding methods and locations within the crime scene. It allows for further building of said crime scene and very specific answers.
@RollWithMePod
@RollWithMePod Ай бұрын
I’m all for that. We can absolutely expand upon rolls, but even then it should be super hard for the whole party to take improvements twice in a session. Even with a 50/50 fail rate, that would be a marathon game of MotW.
@MarioGMan25
@MarioGMan25 Ай бұрын
@RollWithMePod a rough math estimate of my games is everyone usually only has 3 XP by the end of it + 1 or 2 of the end of session XP. Plus with the Team Playbook, now there's more places to put XP instead of just your own Playbook.
