Simon says! Simon should narrate all instructional videos everywhere. He is clear, precise and has the best accent. “Puut eet aweigh.” This video took me to the core of my LG washer on a tub replacement and then back again. If you clean as you go, it makes each step longer (my total project lasted well over a week of stop and start and took out a bay in the garage) but the end result is a washer like you remember. It’s satisfying to tackle this, but don’t think too hard about the time value. No appliance guys will touch it. If you don’t want to throw the old boy out on the curb, this will result in a near-new washer. And if you take the time to really clean the tub dispenser box and rubber hose, you will eliminate a lot of lingering odors...and know how to get at them when they return in a year or two. Hint: use powdered detergent, not liquid. By midnight I was shouting “Puush in de hoze!” repeatedly. I’m thinking of having T-shirts printed with Simon’s sayings. Very clear and detailed. Great job by the Appliance Parts Pros team!

Update: I went all the way, took apart everything. Pressure washed drum inside and basket surfaces, plastic from basket too. Cleaned all black rubber drain lines, gray drain line, put in new gasket. It smells like a brand new machine. Total success all thanks to this video!

There are way too many men proudly commenting that they would rather just buy one! These step by step instructions were clearly and precise. And the camera got the visuals perfect. I completed my repair with no issue. It just took some patience. Now if you will excuse me BOYS, It’s time for me to replace the suspension on my car. I won’t bother doing a tutorial because you might break a nail or your tutu might get caught on on of the moving parts…lol

Thank you SO MUCH for a great video. Clothes were coming out dirty and door seal was broken. After 10 years of use, lots of scrud had accumulated. This excellent video guided me step-by-step to disassemble the washer to pull out and clean the drum on the outside and plastic casing. I was also able to easily change the door seal. I have moderate handyman skills and you made these repairs a breeze!

I worked for a major retailer repairing washers. We called this an overhaul/tub job. If you're replaceing the drum/basket you will ALWAYS replace the rear tub/bearing. This process will take you and your helper 2 hours and it's not recommended for beginners. Check with manufacturer because the basket may be covered under warranty.

Thanks for a great video. I did the disassembly without taking the front panel off. The tub can be taken out while keeping the front mounting brace and the whole washer frame intact. I think I saved myself some effort.

Don't know if anyone needs to hear this but don't buy this washing machine used, I did and started out just replacing the boot seal only to realize the whole inner drum, spider, outer drum were all disgusting and had a lot of mold build up. This machine was poorly designed so mold/gunk build up is inevitable and I wouldn't have even realized had I not opened it up. Thanks for this great video, made the process a lot easier

You're right there. Replace the bearings, and tub seal also. It's extremely cheap insurance against the bearings going out, or seal leaking in a couple months. I would not want to have to do all of that again.

Excellent video, that goes into details on disassembly and assembly. In many cases its not possible to unscrew spider nuts, and as per this video its recommended to replace tub assembly. However, if you have opened washer, and were unable to unscrew spider bolt, this is what I did: 1. Use rotating blade to cut bolt head. 2. Remove the three baffles inside tub. 3. Unscrew 2 screws from bolt side and one screw from side. 4. Use a screw driver to pryout plastic, remove the rusty bolt and nut. Screw could not be opened because nut was rotating inside. Take a screw to hardware store, and buy 6 Stainless steel screws, six nuts, six locking washer, 6 washers and six star washer (I paid total of about $15 at Home Depot) 5. Clean plastic parts, and insert nut in the housing. Since nut will be loose, use adhesive to fill around nut (liquid nail) and let it dry for about 2 hours. 6. Place star washer on nut, and metal plate and plastic hub. 7. install screws and complete waffle assembly. 8. Install waffles in drum. 9. Install spider, use a locking washer and washer and tighten all six screws. Congratulations, you have saved over $250 by repairing waffles. Hope this will help others. Suresh Roy

They didn't disassemble that part in the video. But you can see it when he pulls the drum out. It's the part mounted to the back of the stainless drum that has three legs and the motor shaft sticking out the back. Unfortunately they don't make them out of stainless, and detergent attacks them weakening them until they break. You can not get the spider separately as far as I know.

I just replaced the spider arm (broken), two bearings, and gasket. The stainless steel tub was fine. Bearings should be replaced just because you've gone through the trouble of disassembling the whole unit. Just remember to mark (blue tape) all parts that need to be reconnected.

Can anyone advise if you are already changing the seal (it is dirty/moldy), is it worth going all the way to clean between the drum and basket inside? I don't have a borescope to look inside but from the drain hole I see with my phone camera, is a thin dark film on the basket metal inside. Advice? 6 year old machine, lack of maintenance cleaning caused by owner ignorance (mine).

My Kenmore 41379210 spider bracket was corroded and broken (Of course) Problem is the bolts holding the bracket to the drum just turn and turn and do NOT come out. There doesn’t seem to be a way to access the nut (under) side. What the heck do I do now?!?
@atlantajunglepythons174411 ай бұрын
Various videos show you where to drill a hole in the assembly for each pair of those bolts. They are seated in a nut that is embedded, weakly, in plastic. Those are the instructions to look for. Since the threads are seated with blue-threadloc, tightening first may enable you to next unscrew. Heat on the bolt head may help - bring slowly to 85 - 90°C

My outer drum assembly is glued together instead of bolted with a seal. The spider inside is pretty obviously broken, but replacement cost for the sealed drum assy is on the order of US$670.00*. I would AVOID LG because the machine is a total and LESS THAN TWO YEARS OLD! The technical term for it is, “it’s toast.” WM4000HWA/01 purchased for $990.00 at Home Depot.

Don't they make them cheap and nasty now? If it was me, I think I'd have changed the main bearings. Can't believe the rust in that obviously fairly new machine either. Still, very interesting to watch. Another one saved from landfill.
@appliancepartspros7 жыл бұрын
It's certainly not a bad idea to change those bearings while you have it dissembled already. We're always glad to help save appliances from the landfill when we can!
@jameslaine24726 жыл бұрын
Yea, that's a lot of rust for sure. Apparently LG hasn't figured out that steel plus salted water (soft water) promotes rust.
@Tj10566 жыл бұрын
its because they use to different metals on the drum. I think its steel on the drum itself and some kind of zinc metal for the mount in the back with the rod so the steel attacks and corrodes the mount every time no matter what. Pretty shitty design if you ask me. Dissimilar metals just do not work together well together especially in wet environments.
@ulfhenarpolymathmilitant62586 жыл бұрын
you all can't be serious .........I deliver new appliances and take the old ones away to be salvaged and made into something else .........the junk just doesn't go to the landfill's and rot in a hole ( if it does rot in a hole then you have no clue where you should take anything) ......junkyards and salvage yards is where they recycle metals FFS

If you are watching this video you have already come to the realization that you go screwed by LG. It's a great video but my beef is with LG. Why would anyone design a machine with that combination of metals to run is a hot soapy caustic environment. Basic chemistry tells you that the "spider" is the sacrificial metal in the mix and will disintegrate. I will never buy LG again if they are going design such a machine using components like that.
