How common is having to replace the spring perchs? Where in New England are you located? Thanks for the video man. I'm doing my lift tomorrow an nervous to see how bad the rust is from all the NE salt.

God damn they lifted that rusty thing? I got two clean nj xjs and have been trying to prevent rust as much as possible. My 01 has over 30k into it so I'm trying to make it last

If you have a good fully dried/cured base of some kind of paint or epoxy primer, I spray Fluid Film to leech into all the panel crevices. Do it annually if it goes through the snow and you can keep them clean.

Illinois ain't no better rust wise,never saw spring perches so bad!!!

This one was definitely one of the bad examples, but unfortunately not all that uncommon in these parts. It's a lottery up here. Salt on the roads is bad enough, but you never know other details like where it was parked, what it was used for, maintenance, etc. All of which can make matters worse.

What size lift and how much to install it? I'm getting ready to lift mine and I'm thinking about farming out the install. Ballpark figure is fine if you don't mind. Thanks. Answers = subscription lol

Hey thanks for checking out my channel. Due to pandemic stocking shortages I had to piece together this 'kit' to make a 2" lift because the client still needed to tow a trailer. The original suspension was sagging over an inch so it effectively raised it almost 3" from when it rolled in. As you saw from the video this jeep had some extensive rust issues so labor times vary depending on difficulty of install. If you're local and want to talk about an install feel free to call me at (401) 710-ATOM.

@@RhodeWerks401 thanks for the reply. I'm in Ohio so I completely understand the rust issues. Mines not too bad but I just replaced the shocks and the back bolts broke off instantly with just a ratchet. Lol. I'm a mechanic myself but don't do it for a living anymore so my problem is not having a lift or a shop and being old and out of crawling around shape. I was just curious on the labor cost but I know in the end I'll end up doing it myself. Unless it's over my head or something I don't have the tools for I can't bring myself to pay someone to do what I know how to. Yet, anyways. Lol. I'm subbing anyway. God bless you and good luck with the channel.

@@jelly7310 well good luck to you. I hope they don't salt roads like they do here but regardless rust is not fun. It turns a 3 hour job into an all day job. Those rear upper shock bolts love to break all the time. I've actually had to cut a few access holes in the rear floor on a few vehicles. It seems I grab the torch more than any other tool in my box!

@@RhodeWerks401 yep. I bought the adapter deal from rough country to replace the broken nuts before I ever started. I forget what it's called but it looks like a fork with nuts welded on and a handle to slide them in through the hole on the side of where the shocks mount. Easy and cheap enough and so far so good

Um...this is not a "ten minute " job. This is something only a very skilled welder/artisan can do. How long does it take to get to the level of proficiency shown in this video?!
@RhodeWerks4012 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right. Here in rusty New England this can be closer to 10 hours than 10 minutes! Welding perches isn't part of a normal lift, only due to rust, so basic mechanical skills are usually all that is required. Thanks for checking out my video and the support. I hope you have better luck than I did.

Its refreshing to see what all of us in the NE have to deal with RUST!!! I see alot of video from sw DIY folks and they whine about a little surface rust and occasional siezed nuts/bolts. I tell friends about when I worked at Lee miles trans and we put an old k car on the lift when we started lifting the engine and trans tried to fall out the entire subframe was terminal cancer 😆
