Ladies, listen to me. Melissa is the real deal. Everything that she is saying is absolutely true. I started concentrating on her videos about 3 weeks ago. Since watching her videos (and rewatching), I was able to get back into a pair of jeans that I thought would NEVER happen. This is all due to studying her videos and staying consistent. Again, thank you for being an inspiration to me and for showing the world that women over 50 can be fit! It is so important to move and strength train. I've got the exercise down, but I am hopeless when it comes to diet. I'm neurodivergent and I have food aversions. Sometimes I can't or don't eat at all, and when I do it pretty much has to be a safe food (meaning familiar and comfortable, not healthy). So I've gained a bunch of muscle thanks to strength training, and I don't really have as much body fat as one would expect with my diet, but losing *any* weight is almost impossible. When I was younger I was super skinny. I used to be 107 lbs and a US size 0. I'm 41 now with 2 kids so I'm not skinny anymore, I'm a pretty average 145 lbs and a US size 6. If I could only trade the carbs for veggies I'm sure I could get there. You are so inspirational! I wish I could follow ALL of your advice to get the full benefit of results!

After months and months of injury and surgery recovery, as well as moving to a different house, I've finally picked your program back up. Yay! I just started week 5 yesterday. I'm seeing some really nice strength gains! 💪 But I do have questions regarding shoes- Do you switch them when you go from lifting to cardio? And what do you wear when you do HIIT circuits that involve both lifting and impact cardio moves?
@MelissaNeill3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nancy sorry to hear about your injury and surgery. The shoes shown in the video are Nike metcons and they are designed for people that do crossfit. They may run or lift - you do everything in the same shoe. I also recommend Nike Air Max Bella or anything in the Nike TR range. These are all hybrid shoes.

Hello Melissa! I've been watching you for a while, I just don't typically comment. I started my strength training about 5 weeks ago. I'm frustrated because not long after I started I began getting this intermittent pinching in my left hip so I've had to take off some time to see if it will heal itself. The thing is it isn't constant pain. I can walk and do most anything and it not bother me. I just don't understand what is causing it, it's like pinching a nerve or something. Squats don't seem to bother it but I have found walking lunches will trigger that pinch and walking up stairs. I'm getting back to my training this week. I took about 10 days off from lower body stuff. I hope it doesn't get tweaked again. I recently started skating outdoors too so it could have been that as well, not sure really. Thanks for your videos and for being so inspirational.
@unseeliesidhegoddess2 жыл бұрын
Good luck! I know the pain you're talking about. My physical therapist would have me make sure those hip flexors were nice and loosened up before I worked out, and we focused more on lower abdominal strength (maybe because sometimes your hips will try to take over if your lower abs are weak) and I would use resistance bands when it would flare up instead of heavy weights. I don't know if any of this will help you, but there are all sorts of tendons and nerves that run through that area, as well as your bones and muscles, and sometimes you can get like a pinched nerve in there. Also, if you have any mid-to-lower back pain, that's another indication that the issue may be related to a pinched nerve because that pain can radiate down into the hip or groin region and then you think you've injured your hip but it's really your back. I hope you feel better soon!

In the last year, I have seriously been trying, unsuccessfully, to build more muscle. I'm slender, and toned, but there are many areas of my body that I'm still unhappy with; I'm 54. And boy oh boy, it's a heck of a lot more difficult to build muscle at this age. On and off, I've been into exercising since age 22. Recently, while watching this channel and others, I suddenly realized what my main problem is; I'm barely getting any protein. I did not know that I need at least 1g of protein per every pound of body weight 😱😵💫 Bingo! Then, I was intermittently fasting for 14 + hours mostly every day. I have felt so weak and can barely lift any weight. The little bit that I could lift, it's hard. So I introduced a protein vegan powder and diminished the hours of fasting. Let's see how I do, but it's hard for me to introduce more protein too.

Hi I am 53 turning 54 and menopausal. I follow a programme on youtube with 20min moderate excercise and calorie counting. This is the only method that has helped me loose any weight in the last 2 years, I have lost 4kg but need to loose another 2 kg and tone. Low carb, and intermittent fasting, hiit workouts and areobics, prior to this method, all made me gain weight. However I am a bit scared to try the heavy weights because the programme I am on advises that women in menopause do not have estrogen which manages inflammation and heavy excercise causes inflammation. Has anyone had good experience with the heavy weights while in menopause??

Hey Melissa, I have a bulging disc and a bit of osteo in my left hip, so would lifting weights be a no go for me ?
@tarmach5232 жыл бұрын
I have left hip osteo and I continue to workout heavy and intensely as I can as per my energy level on a given day. I used to have a bulging disc and I know, the pain is excruciating but after a certain point the pain becomes duller on some days, better with some anti-inflammatory meds. What cured me? No more forward bend exercises like toe touches, and stiff leg deadlifts. Instead stretch the opposite way. There are a few good videos on here to help with that. I was at a point where I could only lift one pound dumbbells when I rehabbed my back from injury. Sorry for the unsolicited advice, and answering your question eventhough it was directed at that wonderful lady. Best of luck!
