How To Light Paint: A Spirograph and a Spoon

In this Light Painting Photography Tutorial I show how to create what is basically a multiple exposure image in a SINGLE exposure using a light painting technique known as lens capping. Instead of using a lens cap I use a piece of black cloth to cover the lens while light painting in multiple different elements into a single exposure.

The camera settings that were used in this light painting tutorial were:
ISO 100
F16
Shooting on Bulb Mode
Exposure time on the final image was 161 seconds.

Did you do something different to the pink light from the blue. The blue is wide where the pink is pencil thin.

I have been watching your great work for a couple of years. It is just awesome and inspirational I have a very busy life I recently turned 52 and Hell I am going to give this a try. I will be ordering some of the light painting products, I have a very old Olympus 35m DSLR I hope it works. I do have a question what lens do you use? I only hAVE A KIT LENS 14-45MM and a 40-150mm

Thank you very much! Your Olympus should work fine, for this type of light painting I would definitely go with the 14-45mm and shoot toward the wider side.

When using Coast flash light g26 why do you get pulsating lines line when doing orbis ? BILL Sullivan

Because the newer versions of the Coast G26 have what is called Pulse Width Modulation, its something MANY flashlights have now. PWM is a "more efficient" way to deliver power. Its not visible to the naked eye BUT can be seen in light painting.

Nicee! Is there any other tools i can use for light streak? Like somehow use phone screen for streaks? Due to lockdown, products are not being delivered here😜

You can use pretty much anything that lights up. If you have a flashlight you can cover it with some tinfoil then make a small hole in the foil so you get a smaller point of light. You are just going to need to adjust your camera settings depending on how bright your light source is.

@@nishantshah128 You can create the spirographs with just about any light source but I think that the point of light will give you the best results.
