In this video, I show you how I was able to smooth out my orange peel textured wall using drywall mud as well as the stages of applying two coats of Bauwerk paint. The colors I used in the video were Desert Fig and Bone.
Because the cost of shipping was so high, I used a local lime paint primer from a company called Color Atelier in San Francisco.

Master of Limewash? If he's a master, why does he tell you that limewash needs a primer? Limewash does not need a primer when it's applied to the surfaces for which it has been used for centuries, ie masonary.

Not bad. A quick suggestion. If you're wanting a true smooth wall finish, after applying the joint compound use a dual orbital sander and some 220-320 or so sand paper. I attach my shop-vac to the exhaust port on my sander and I don't get the dust from sanding. It greatly speeds up the process. I noticed the texture and joint compound showing through your paint at the end. All fine if that physical texture is what you want. But thought I'd throw this step out there!
@MtWashingtonWeekendProject

Great suggestion adding the shop vac to the sander to eliminate the joint compound particulates. Sanding the wall after the compound dries is a step I've started incorporating into my process. Although, I don't mind the rough texture on these walls.

Came here for that comment... I was really surprised there was no sanding on the video. I have a big wall sander used to attach it to an old regular vacuum cleaner but.... as you can expect... the vacuum cleaner died on me lol... too much for it... but anyway...these days I just sand it and deal with cleaning the mess. The worse is to clean the dust out of the wall itself before paint

Just a minor correction. Lime is not simply ground up limestone. Per ChatGPT; "Limestone: Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). It forms over time through the accumulation of the remains of marine organisms and often contains fossilized shells and marine life. Limestone can be mined and then crushed into various sizes for different applications. Quicklime (Calcium Oxide - CaO): Quicklime is produced by heating limestone (calcium carbonate) to a high temperature in a process known as calcination. This results in the removal of carbon dioxide, leaving behind calcium oxide or quicklime. Quicklime is a highly reactive and caustic substance. Hydrated Lime (Calcium Hydroxide - Ca(OH)2): Hydrated lime is created by adding water to quicklime. The chemical reaction that occurs during this process is called slaking. The resulting product is a dry powder or a putty-like material, depending on the amount of water used. Hydrated lime is less reactive and milder than quicklime. In summary, limestone is a natural rock, while lime refers to the processed forms of calcium oxide (quicklime) or calcium hydroxide (hydrated lime) derived from limestone through specific manufacturing processes. We make our own limewash using Hydrated Lime and Oxide. A hell of a lot cheaper than Bauwerk and every bit as good. (in our opinion).

My boyfriend and I are in the middle of turning a 1951 Spartan Royal Mansion trailer into our full time home to live off-grid! We are very interested in using a plaster/lime wash for the majority of our walls because the interior walls are curved, and we don’t like the flat look of just painting it. Do you happen to have any advice on how to ensure it will not crack when we move? It will be making one 16hr road trip to its final destination where it will stay, and we are curious if we will be fighting against cracks from the initial move?

Great video, I am planning to do so for master bedroom My room walls are builder's paint (it doesn't have orange peel texture) however it is painted with basic beige color My question, how do I bring subtle rustic texture, would joint compound be used to create texture on existing painted walls (walls do not have gloss or semi gloss paint) have either matte or eggshell type paint Do I need something else prior to joint compound? And how is the Bone color after drying? Is it more toward beige or somewhere between white and beige?
@MtWashingtonWeekendProject
@MtWashingtonWeekendProject 2 жыл бұрын
You can use joint compound to create some texture on the wall, but really, the texture can come completely from the lime wash. I would just prime all the walls first and all Grit to the primer. www.limestrongartisan.com/prep-protect/primer-grit/
