If you were in that situation I think you might surprise yourself. A long time ago I got lost near a beach in California and my phone got bricked since I ran out of power. Took bus to surfing lesson. Had to walk/run for miles since the stop was far away from the beach. Very late for lesson. Didn't plan well. Didn't know how to get back after the (shortened) lesson. Ended up asking a bunch of people to use their phone, not much luck. Randomly happened upon a car rental place and asked them to call a taxi for me which they thankfully did. Got back safe and sound, albeit a little scared and shaken. Thought for sure I was gonna be sleeping on the street that night, but I was wrong. I figured it out in the moment.

Try it! Just have a phone with u the first time, next time, take a left. Then mix it up and when ur confident, leave the phone and get lost, focus on looking around u and notice things as buildings and trees, parks, cars, bridges that you'd never see usually. Good luck! :)

How do you forget where your house is just walking for 30 minutes??? I thought everyone knew all the parts of their towns

Travel is not just an activity its a mindset. Don't need a car or plane ticket to participate. Sometimes just walking down the block or a new part of town and you discover something new. As long as it's a safe street your good. I always call "getting lost" a " spontaneous adventure". Good way to make unexpected memories too 😊

Yup. That’s what I learned too. Trying new things increases my optimism. Also I tend to NOT try new things because I have the character defect of perfectionism, which is really a form of fear. I don’t try new things because I’m afraid I will not be perfect, that I’ll be publicly shamed or worse, and in doing so I deprive myself of the opportunity to discover new things I’m passionate about and the simple fact is that my fears seldom if ever come to pass, so when I try new things, I see my fears were mirages and I get more hopeful about my future. Intentionally seeking opportunities to disrupt my routine is, therefore, critical to my mental health. Thanks for the reminder. I really enjoy your content.

I completely agree! That’s how you can regain passion too!! honestly, don’t be afraid to be absolutely silly and ridiculous. That’s how I got into theatre…and I’m not even that talented in that area, so I’m kinda forced to not be my best. So yeah, my biggest tip for perfectionism would be to put yourself into situations where you aren’t the best. It’s similar to exposure therapy so you can let loose a little

Just going out goes a long way. I live in a small but alive english town (lots of students, homeless, clubs, bars, foreigners) You sit down anywhere for a while and someone crazy (in good and bad ways) will always join you. I met a lady once who would talk to any stranger passing by non stop. Just shouting couple of stupid cringy jokes and then talking more seriously if they stayed. At first i thought she was drunk but then realised she's just incredibly extroverted, had literally 0 filter, like she knew she was being ridiculous but didn't care and eventually people opened up to her and had lot of fun talking and even shared contacts. I spent 30 mins of a friday night with her on a bus stop and felt i was in a club 😆 surprised of how interesting, friendly and fun random people that you'd never even bother looking at can become if you push through that first layer of shame.

Have to start somewhere. Doing simple stupid stuff like this to break a routine can sound pointless because I think most want to go on wild and crazy adventures right away, but that can be very difficult to do if that is not your norm. One small thing I've been trying to do lately is go out to random restaurants/bars/clubs I've never been to. Started off with just restaurants really because everyone needs to eat and worst case scenario the food sucks and I just won't go back there. Things seem to be working well so far for a person like me (overthinker, hermit, video game addict) so if you are in a similar boat I'd give this overall strategy that Julien suggests a try. Trying new things constantly makes it alot easier to try more new things. More ambitious adventures can come later after you develop the muscle of doing more stuff.

Interesting fact; after a few weeks of turning right or changing small things or youdoing something different. That change makes your new things part of your routine, at one point that try new thing routine, Becomes automatic and boring, you eventually end up in the same position but with more work

I love this advice so much! It's so true too. I used to do this alllllll the time, kept life so good and interesting. I once ended up on a dead end at a graveyard on a full moon, scared myself silly before heading home. You NEVER know what will happen when you head off your beaten path.

I just want to get out of the house, and I'd do that if I didn't live with my parents, had a sibling still in school, and owned a car. The closest thing to freedom I have is to accompany my mom and sister to the store, or going on walks, but even that's not exciting anymore because I broke my glasses and can't get them replaced. I just want to get out of the house more, go to a park, do something. Especially today, for my birthday at least.

I think this should be live a more productive life. Instead of getting LOST, maybe learn something new on the internet even if it’s just browsing certain categories, you’re bound to discover something. Learn how to edit videos, learn how to invest. Maybe it’s not your thing, but at least you get to say that you tried it out plus now you have that little bit of knowledge to whatever the subject is vs before not having anything. Personally id rather have something new in my mind to dwell on and learn/study vs “getting lost to talk about something” cause you can always talk about your new subject with someone with similar interests or teach someone else something new!

But also, things you put in your mind, puts you into your mind as well. While weird things you do put you into your body/reality. You are right, but you need to put the mind in it's proper place, as a tool. Your mind is not living, it cannot even experience! You are living.

Results may vary. If you try this in american cities, it would be less interesting than european cities. Bcs your cities suck (except ny and the like). Adopt more public transport and denser land use

So I decided to try something new and I dropped some AC and went to a friend's party, but there were basically no girls there so we decided to go out and game the streets, and there was nothing much to work with so we came back, whole time I can't focus at all In the end I split off and started to stare at traffic lights and thinking "what were you expecting to happen?" Here we are

@@williamadiputra2850 not sure tbh. Sometimes doing nothing gives me alot of piece and comfort and it's the stress of going out and feeling like I need to "do something" or I'm wasting time that makes me feel uncomfortable and ashamed.

I get the point but 30min adventure to nothing will not make you feel better and will just add up to your collection of things you wasted your life on. Me thinking of a better example. Let me help you here. How about finding three things in your life you procrastinate - randomly choose one and do it for 30 minutes. Like learning to play a cord on the guitar, cook new 30min random meal, 30min exercise, apply for a job with or without an updated resume, ask hot girls/boys direction at the mall. I guarantee you that any of these activities can possibly land you somewhere: you can say you can play a guitar and play that cord. new recipe, response from an employer, feeling less awkward talking to hot people, Yada - yada.
