I really like Jordan Peterson's 9th rule in 12 Rules for Life: "assume the person you're talking to knows something you don't." This is such a useful outlook to have when engaging in a conversation with someone. Instead of trying to score points by making the interaction contentious, go into it with an open mind and be willing to have your pre-existing positions challenged.

I have found that in general, people LOVE talking about themselves With a passion. Can't tell you how many conversations I've have where I am curious and ask lots of questions, which gives the other person lots of opportunities to talk further about themselves. At the end of those conversations, they are excited about me and about the conversation, not even realizing what just happened. How can they be excited about me, when they did not learn a thing about me during the entire conversation? They are just ecstatic that they got to tell me all about themselves. I do not mind doing this for one or two conversations, because I do want to learn about people, but as the relationship develops, it becomes a turn off, because self centered-ness is revealed in their personalities. And I cannot be around that, long term.

I’ve always said, “To be interesting, get interested.” I’m an introvert (INFJ), but I’ve hiked up the back of Half-Dome, piloted a 60ft ship under the Golden Gate Bridge three times, been in a flying helicopter and hot air balloon twice each. I’m an English major, with a focus on 19th century romanticism and ancient world literature, and also love going to the theatre, taking acting classes, and constantly study anything artistic. I enjoy martial arts and playing games of all kinds. One of my favorite moments was rowing a boat out in a bay during a thunderstorm, also the first time I held my niece is still at the top of the life affirming moments. I have never run out of topics at a conversation, and people keep asking me for more stories. So my advice is do things that make you interested and people will take an interest in what you do.

Travel, hobbies, reading and general curiosity and ability and drive to learn. All great attributes - plus the ability to talk about your work with passion and excitement that makes people understand the challenges of what you do. p.s My wife has always been a great sewer, crafter etc. It was one of the most attractive things early on for me, that she always had "projects" even as a 20yo student, a real girl "nerd" in fact. And as I had my passions too that was cool because she understood that that took time and energy and we could naturally give each other space to pursue these. She even made her own wedding dress and continues to make cocktail and evening dresses for herself, and always looks fantastic. Home furnishings also - lots of cross stitch, embroidery etc. Plus it's rubbed off onto our daughters. Our youngest in particular is really into jewelry making for her and her friends.

If you are dating someone you already like them so there really isn't a need to look out for "green flags" people may naturally gravitate to a "red flags" video not necessarily because they are drawn to negativity but because being able to spot red flags is more useful and actually needed. The risk of missing a red flag is severe while missing green flags has little impact because the person tossing up the flags has already shown enough green flags to draw in the attraction already.

As long as I can remember, even as a small child of 5 year old, I have always had a burning curiosity about almost everything! Today, my family, friends, exes, former employers, etc., know me as "the guy who has answers." It seems I can always come up with a way to solve problems, fix broken things, find new uses for old things, answer a question about a wide range of topics, etc. I have devoted most of my life, even while in college, to learn something new about different subjects, every day. I read a lot, watch documentaries, attend seminars, and yes, even attempt to do things I have never done before, and succeeded at doing it well. I learn by doing and by failing. I love solving problems for and helping people. I have participated in at least a couple dozen different kinds of hobbies (some I am still doing) and I never know when I will come across another one that I will want to take up. My hobbies have included sports and fitness activities (baseball, tennis, weight lifting, archery, pistol & rifle marksmanship and bullet reloading), programming, auto mechanics, writing (short stories and non-fiction articles), reading (fiction and non-fiction), artistic activities (drawing, airbrush painting, wood working, wood carving, ballroom and Latin American dancing, both instrumental music and singing), cooking new and different foods, mycology (mushroom hunting, growing and eating) and intellectual games of skill. I have traveled to multiple major cities in 28 of the 50 states and have made more than 90 airline flights (with some very exciting and scary incidents on some of them). I always have been and will continue to be open to learning new skills and gaining new knowledge until the day I die. I am teachable and am willing to learn from men, women, those younger than me as well as those older than me. I am always interested in hearing about what others like to do and what they know about it, why they like it, etc.

The place we go is a seasonal lake in a valley, it's called "Lake George", often we fly from the lakebed, but since it's spring and it's been raining a lot there is heaps of water so we were flying from the top of the hill, perhaps 75m up from the lake surface. When he had a stroke he recovered for the most part, the doctor told us the recovery was a result of the amount he read. That allowed his brain to find alternative routes to send brain signals.

The lady is correct. I've multiple times had 2 to 4 women around me at certain times and venues, that were intent on listening to specific subjects I raised. I kept the convo VERY interesting talking about things most men NEVER or rarely do. I received quite a few phone numbers after that. 😁

@Natu Health most amusing. I "diss" whom I choose. Regardless of what you just shared. I don't date unattractive women. Not even in the slightest. I don't have to, they come to me, not me to them. I've an amazing single, lone wolf life. BTW, women compliment my world, they don't define it. Heh, heh, heh, 😁.

This ought to be helpful. I know I'm a high value gentleman, and have taken much of your advice for online dating profile setup, and even tho i gained more attention, yet many girls can't hold a conversation past how are you and idk if I'm not standing out enough, or if they're not interesting and can't handle a legitimate conversation. Then again many females these days only find value in their body, sadly, so they aren't interested in someone who doesn't constantly talk about the woman's face&body

I’m sure it’s a struggle. You can only do so much to hold up your end of the conversation… they should be contributing as well lol

I have had similar experiences to you when it comes to having quality conversation on dates. Sadly, I think some of that value on their looks comes from their looks being the main thing society/men value in them, whether it be for getting more attention/money/etc. If you don’t need to or aren’t interested in being a better conversationalist then why do so? This is a different scenario for every person, so YMMV. In the end I’ve learned I can only control what I am accountable for (looks, confidence, ambition, intelligence, conversation, affection) and what they bring to the table is up to them. If they are not seem up to your standards, is that someone you really want to date and with whom you are compatible?

the secret to being a good story teller is to cut out all the boring details and get to the point pretty quick. if it's engaging they will ask for more details. you can tell a story completely out of order, like "yeah.. i was going to work and i threw a jar of pickles out the window at some jackass" and usually they'll go "what were they doing?" and from there you can tell the whole story or give more details. but also bail on it if you can sense they're getting bored.

Oh give me a break, most people in reality are boring ordinary people living ordinary lives! For us to strive to be more interesting just to impress someone or always looking for something fresh and new isn’t the best way to approach life and relationships! Honestly we should be happy even with the simple things in life! Even for the breath of life in our lungs that we have from the Lord! Let us all be happy and love one another whether they be rich or poor, fun or boring! Each and every person is special and unique in they’re own way! God bless you all!

I think the fact that you seem so positive is already fairly interesting. This video should really be titled "don't be negative". Girls wanna believe everything is sunshine and rainbows so if a guy acts all gloom and doom all the time she's not gonna wanna be around him.

Don’t let people tell you you’re boring. I’ve had a couple girls tell me “you’re so boring” I don’t say much or get offended I just observe what makes them fun. Typically (at face value) they drink on weekends or spend too much time with friends. I wanted to take a girl to go watch James Bond No Time To Die. But she left me to go hang with friends. Whatever, I’ll just go take my niece to learn how to ride a horse and then read a book later.

Reading multitudes of technical documentation/requirements/contracts helps your vocabulary but does not improve your conversational skills. It also simultaneously shifts your written and spoken sentence structures heavily to passive voice

All very well coming out with these points Courtney, but life is full of routine, commitment and responsibility. These things are generally unchanging. Much depends whether you have the money and time to make your life more interesting. Most people work full-time hours and some people, like myself, work seven days a week. This doesn't leave much scope or wiggle-room for developing interests and passions, travelling, learning new skills, etc. Living a happier and more fulfilling life (as you point out) comes from the money and time available at your disposal - to make the best of your own situation. Becoming a more interesting person isn't really a defining question or consideration for most people. Most people are stuck in a life-long work-filled routine and by the time they get home - are generally too knackered or indifferent to really care about making themselves more interesting.

If you ever watch a full segment of your local news...the "feel good" stories are at the very end of the broadcast. Like the last 15 seconds. Bad news gets the ratings. The news game is to be the first with the worst.

Should I tell people that my laptop had a pop up saying I had 23 drivers out of date and then 10 seconds later another pop up saying I had 20 drivers out of date? Like, what fixed those three drivers? Was it God? Was it me wondering should I Google "How to update drivers?" I'll tell everyone. I bet they'll love the story and then they'll call me "that driver guy" and people will be confused and say, "Kevin's a taxi driver?" And then they'll tell my amazing driver story. And the legend will grow.
