My grandfather lived to be 98 and he always had a 'routine'. He lived independently until six months before he passed - always dressed well and took care of his apartment. And he used to tell me that the 'routines' kept him happy and secure.

I am 73 and grew up in the country in Kentucky, looking back I know how blessed I was. Sunday was always Church, Monday was laundry day for my Mother, she hung all the clothes on the line. There was nothing like the smell of that fresh laundry. Saturday we went to “town” for groceries and anything else we needed, we did not go back till the next Saturday. One day was for cleaning, one was ironing. Daddy raised corn, tobacco and dairy cattle. We had 2 gardens, cows and pigs so there wasn’t much need to go to the grocery. I didn’t know it then but we were almost completely self sufficient, happy, rested. We were so blessed. My parents are gone now so all my memories are priceless.

By the end of this month, I will officially be debt free and have purchased a newer car with cash. I have lived so cautiously and paid off things as I go after needing to go into some debt for house and car repairs several months back. I practiced patience and spent as little as I could during that time. That's not to say I didn't get discouraged. But I stuck it out! And I learned new skills and tricks along the way. So after I purchase my new car and pay off a couple of bills, I'm thinking I'm still going to continue my frugal lifestyle! Because it feels so much better to journal, plan, budget, do most things for myself and make it work than it does to go into debt and then fret about how I'm going to pay for things! Blessings and thank you for your encouragement on this channel!

Our evening routine is to take a walk after a home cooked meal, then come back and sit out in our sunroom next to our electric fireplace, no heat function in the summer, but still enjoy the ambience. Then, we make ourselves either a hot tea, ice water, or a glass of wine, turn on soft jazz for background music, and talk about our day, our upcoming next adventure, our hopes and dreams, anything. There are no phones or TV around, and we enjoy each other's company as the sun goes down. After a 50 hour work week every week, we truly cherish these simple moments together ❣️ Happy (soon to be) 26th anniversary, my love!❤️

My nighttime routine depends on the season. When we're in the "hot season" I do any cooking baking, canning, making yogurt (things like that that require excessive heat). And I'm not going to lie after that I watch TV. In the "not so hot season" I typically work on my hobbies and then I watch TV. Some single people may agree with me on this: when you live alone and there's no one to talk to TV helps fill the void.

Each morning we share the tasks of getting our home ready for the day ahead. At 7am we are showered and dressed , my husband lays the table for breakfast and bleaches the worktops (we have a cat), I get my son up (he has complex needs) and then we breakfast together. Every day is taken up with a laundry catch up! But the bathrooms, kitchen and sitting rooms are deep cleaned twice a week. We go to either the local shopping mall or park most days, mostly for people watching, which our son loves and afternoons are taken up with a potter around our little garden or a KZbin catch up and planning dinner! It’s a routine life, but that’s the way we like it. We’ve had enough drama over the years to last us our lifetime. Your Chanel has been such a support, I can’t begin to tell you! It gives me something warm and familiar to look forward at least once a week, just to watch you guys on here. Thank you both x

But, even though my sleep schedule is not like that of other folks, I still have a bedtime routine...it's just that my bedtime is much later. I brush my teeth, etc. and then go to sleep while praying.

I am shocked at how many people do not keep a check register anymore. They just go by what the bank says. I also checked my account every couple of days just to make sure all is OK.
@LauraMacMillan-el2kc2 ай бұрын
I don't keep one. There's no need. I don't write checks so I don't have to see whether they have cleared. I have a written budget and I diligently track my spending. I check my balances online daily. A checkbook is just clutter to me at this point. I suspect it's the same for a lot of people my age (70) & younger.

There are programs like Quicken or Banktivity where you can keep an electronic register and they’ll link to the banks too and you can manually put in info. Hi Emmy and Paul, Just gotta say you live in a beautiful place ... it reminds me of southern England (UK) it's also similar to where I live (SW Wales UK) and I love my county (and Country ) it brings me so much joy, I'm lucky to live in such a beautiful place only 20 mins from town, 40 minutes from Swansea (City), 2 minutes from the coast and 1 minute from countryside...well as I have a view of the mountain from my bedroom not even that really, talking of my bedroom it has a bed, clothes storage, alarm clock ....NO mobile phones, no TV no computer, as a result hubby and I get a good night sleep!!😴😴 Our evening routine is dog walk, make and eat dinner watch you on you tube😉 or .....I love photography so I edit my images, or go out and take pictures of the sunset / insects/ scenery etc, I also belong to a club so once PW I go to the meeting. Then it's dog walk get sorted and go off to bed where my hubby and I have a chat about the day or current happenings or well anything really.... it makes our relationship strong, by making that time to chat we often talk about how we see our future from next weekend to 10 years ahead as I say we chat about anything including what's worrying us or how we feel about things...... Communication is the secret to good relationships in my view...well it works for us🤗 My favourite and really only drink that I have is Tea with milk no sugar ....I do live in the UK so was brought up on Tea but I do really love tea I don't like fizzy drinks very much, although I do have the cheap lemonade by my bedside ... just in case... my hubby does like it so it's more for him😂 Sorry I don't like coffee much at all hubby does though so he drinks my share!!. My dogs give me my routine as my boy dog refuses to use the garden for potty so has to go out 3 times a day, so my schedule is kind of set around him 😂🐺🐺 ..Re your bread bargain... Bread pudding and/or bread and butter pudding would be my go to's ...yep I gotta sweet tooth! 🤣🤣😁...Chocolate bread and butter pudding swap out the dried fruit for chocolate chunks also works😋😋🤣

What makes me sad today is that my grandchildren are constantly bought toys and books - not just for birthdays, Christmas. When these times come round it is so hard to know what to get them and know what they already have. The special times never seem as special.
@kelleyamador88382 ай бұрын
That’s hard to figure out but I’ll tell you what I’ve done over the years…..I dislike getting toys for my grandchildren unless they are of the educational type of toy which I’d say a type of Lego or animal sticker book or a Klutz book - which usually has a game or craft that goes with it.. would qualify. So those have been some items I’ve gifted to my grandchildren in the past. Another type of gift I’ve gotten my grandsons before were books on CD’s which they loved listening to on the 35 minute drive to and from school everyday or when home in place of video games or T.V. Also, quality puzzles are usually well received. I hope this might give you some ideas💗

We like the ones in a beautiful city as if you are in a glass sided building looking at the lights and scenery or those in a cozy coffee shop! Some nights I call family members. If our son is at home we watch a series. We just finished Survivor after a long time and have now started another series! We always pick up where we left off no matter how long it has been. When we are tired we get ready for bed, we take our senior dog out, open the windows in our bedroom, take up insulated cups of water in case we are thirsty overnight, make sure we have something at hand in case we have low blood sugar bedside,and turn on a fireplace nightlight in our bathroom. We only set an alarm if we must be somewhere early in the morning like bloodwork or Doctor appointments. Appointments.

I only drink water and milk. I've never liked fruit juices and stopped drinking soda years ago. That breakfast meal looked delish! I have a very boring routine. Well, probably boring to others, but not to me. 🤣 One thing I always do when I shut the lights out and go to bed is I read my kindle book(s). I always fall asleep reading and hunt for my kindle in the morning! Usually falls on the floor when I fall asleep. Have a great weekend Emmy, Paul and Dixie!

My nighttime routine 😊 I usually have dinner around 5-6 O'clock , then I do spend some time on KZbin, planning my new lifestyle 😅 I try not to spend much time on TV, just calming down, and spending some time in the bathroom, maybe a bath or a shower before bed. Skincare routines, haircare, and I go to bed early 😴 Hopefully these early evenings will be a positive change. Good night ❤

We have a tank just outside our backyard fence in West Texas. We love to sit outside on the back porch and watch the dragon flies flying around it and the fish jumping when it’s not to hot. (Not lately 😓). Weekend mornings we enjoy drinking our coffee out there as well. The deer have gotten use to us and quite often come out while we are there to get a drink and graze. Very peaceful and a blessing. ❤️

I too use a check book register. I know where every penny is spent. This time of year after dinner it's usually in the 70's in the evening so we sit outside after dinner and watch the sunset or go for a walk. Then we do re-treat indoors for a city light view and watch the lightning (monsoon season here). Then watch some tv. What a great buy with the bread! I freeze just about anything extra that I buy.

My nightime routine has been interrupted by an illness. It used to be crochet and read, now its on tv and on my phone. I am finally starting to get better. The phone is like a substitute until I have yarn money. It has taught me about crochet projects and possibilities, plus giving me gardening ideas too. I have to put up a deer fence, but I have made a ton of progress on my garden this year.

I love to read old fashion family novels about living in The Netherlands in the 19th century. I sometimes buy a book for 1 euro. That is cheaper than the library. And I share books with my mother and a friend. For drinks we have what you mentioned. I sometimes make syrup of elderberry flowers in spring. And I have some herbs in my garden to make tea when I want lemon balm of mint tea. I love it to watch your video's. How you both are and how your kitchen plus decorations are. Lately my nighttime routine has included a quick walk after supper. It's hard to get out the door sometimes, but I always enjoy it once I'm on my way. I like to read, draw, do puzzles and yes, watch a little TV. I try to make Sundays a no screens day. I went back to work a couple of years ago, but I will be retiring in a few weeks, and I can't wait! People keep asking what I will do, and I have a ton of plans to live even more frugally than we have for the last little while. 😊

I seldom drink soda, alcoholic beverages or juices. I stick to water, tea and coffee. About once every month or two, I might eat out at a restaurant to meet up and chat with friends. It's a special treat for me that way and very enjoyable as I'm retired and live alone. I'm pretty flexible about household cleaning routines. But I tackle it one room or area at a time. I might do extra on a rainy day when I'm stuck indoors. I have a cleaning lady about once a month to help with extra tasks. I make it a rule to always keep the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry done up weekly and trash bagged up and stored in a container in the porch for pickup.

Yes- I totally still use a paper check register. I print them out free on 8x11 sheets of paper and have them in a 3 ring binder. I have a section for the register, as well as a section for my budget. I have my budget printed out for each month, divided by 4 weeks with each bill that comes out of each weekly paycheck. It is crazy how much money I’ve saved over the years by budgeting by paycheck.

My nighttime routine can change at the drop of a hat as i have long covid, and the fatigue is horrendous. On a good day, I prepare and get things ready for the next day and fix any todos for the next day. Then, read a book or listen to a book on my phone. Get ready for bed and snuggle. On a bad day, you'll be lucky if I've done the dishes, 😅 let alone get ready for bed. 😅 When that fatigue hits, it is clearly game over. Hugs and blessings from Leicester England xx😊

Loved this video Emmy & Paul! It was excellent and I loved all the points you made........so good. How true that we don't have to live at break neck speed like the rest of society. Those 'old fashioned' ways are so often the best. Thank you for all the helpful food for thought. My wind down routine is to stop watching any screens an hour or more before bedtime. I clean my teeth, have a wash, get changed. Then my husband and I read the Bible and a daily devotional together and we pray together and commit the needs of others to the Lord and also commit any concerns we might have about the next day into His Hands. I go off to bed feeling relaxed and peaceful, because I know I can trust God to take care of my needs. Thank you for your excellent videos. Have a wonderful week and may God bless you both.❤

First, about the bread, I thought bread pudding! After dinner, I watch a few videos on KZbin. I say Vespers and Matins, make sure the cat has dry food down, clean my glasses for the next day, finish my private prayers, check my feet (I'm diabetic), pull the sheets down and get in bed. Then, as I relax to fall asleep, the cat will jump into the bed and expect me to rub her head and neck, which will keep me awake for a while. At some point I have to quit. Forgot to mention that while I'm watching a few videos, the cat comes and flops down beside me to let me know she's ready for me to brush her, so that has to be included.
