I bought proper hairdressing scissors, which didn't last very long, although they were expensive. We had some Mikki Coat Scissors for our cockapoo; they are better than the hairdressing scissors, feel more comfortable in my hand and last longer. I have used them to cut my own hair, in a shortish bob with a feathered fringe, for the past 10 years using mirrors so I can see the back. The Mikki scissors are only £8...one man's haircut; cost covered. One female (or cockapoo!) haircut; cost covered multiple times over.

Hi! KZbin also have videos teaching you to cut your own hair. I have been cutting mine for 1,5 years now and I couldn't be more pleased with the result! People have given me compliments on my hair cut, not knowing I cut it myself. And people never used to give me compliments on my hair cut before! I will never go back to a hairdresser, unless I need to color it professionally or something. I cut it in layers (medium long hair) & there are really simple techniques to get these great results. I bought professional scissors (bad ones can cause split ends) and am set up for always now! I love the freedom this gives me too! To chose when & how often, how much or little length etc. I move house a lot too & this way I don't need to spend a ton of time & multiple failed attempts at finding a new hairdresser in the new town/city I've moved to.

For all-purpose cleaner you can buy the yellow Ecover cleaner (less than £3 a bottle) and dilute it. I use it for the floors as well and you probably need a higher concentration for that, but if you were just using it in a spray bottle it would last ages.

Great idea. At the moment I'm using diluted Zoflora which is working really well but I do love the Ecover brand so I'll look out for it on offer xx

I pick up books and DVDs from my local charity shops. They are rarely more than $1 each.

What do you use on your sofa to clean it, I have a leather chesterfield. Also my cats have scratched it and I don't how to cover up the scratch marks.

I just use a cloth and water plus a leather conditioner to keep it soft and shiny. I got a scratch on a brown leather chair and I used shoe polish to cover it up, it worked a treat.
