Just about everything I have learned in the last 5 years or so, I learned on KZbin. Not only that, but my husband who was not at all handy has learned to repair our fixer-up-er house on KZbin. He has fixed electrical and plumbing, mended the roof, installed a wood stove and even fixed the muffler on our car with videos on KZbin!

Just wanted to say for the Americans out there, DO NOT switch your bank often!!!! Closing accounts, even credit cards you are no longer using, makes your credit score take a hit for at least 6 months. Especially if you make it a habit, your score will continue to go lower and lower. What the credit score ultimately is looking at is how long you are able to maintain good credit with an account, and switching banks frequently will make it impossible for you to have a good credit history.
@littlelyndseylou5 жыл бұрын
Since checking/savings accounts aren't lines of credit, they shouldn't count towards closed accounts, unless you've signed up for overdraft protection or have some other sort of special situation. But please point me to where I can learn more if I'm mistaken.

Just something to bear in mind if you’re switching bank accounts - many banks will perform a “hard” credit search on you before opening a current account. This can affect your credit score so be careful if you’re planning to apply for a mortgage/loan/tenancy in the near future. Noddle is a really good free credit checker as well. Great video, thanks!

I agree with buying in bulk- check unit price to be sure it's a good deal. Buy nonperishables in bulk- even for only one or two persons. We do that when items are on sale. We buy enough to last a few months, until it goes on sale again. Things like deodorants, toothpaste, toilet paper, tussues, shampoo, rice, canned goods, pasta, tuna, frozen veggies, meats (store meats in a freezer- we bought a mini sized freezer at a yard sale for $30 ) can be bought only when on sale, and store well.

I have made oat , almond and soy milk and agree that oat milk is the easiest and has no waste while almond and soy has pulp leftover which I don't use and goes into my foodwaste bin yet you can also it for other things like baking!
@scottyhaines42266 жыл бұрын
Ally B you can make almond meal out of the leftover almond pulp then use that for baking instead of white flour. If anything use it in your garden if you have one. It's got a lot of nutrients

Get rid of things like Groupon on your phone so you are not tempted by a "bargain" on something you never would have wanted if you were not notified. I also turned off notifications on services like Retail Me Not. I can look when I have otherwise decided to buy at full price. leave things in my online shopping cart for several days before ordering to insure I have really got a need rather than a want for them. I often decide not to get them.

Really miss being able to switch utility companies. Did that a lot when I lived in London. Esp using something like quidco to do so. Can't do that in the US.
@nadajaklic30695 жыл бұрын
lots of good ideas! I'd like to add something regarding credit cards. carefully check the fine print on 0% transfer offers. there is usually a fee charged so the credit card co. will still profit at your expense. better to pay in full each month, then the interest rate won't matter and it'll boost your credit score.

Great tips, thank you! The only thing I would disagree with (from personal experience) I wouldn't recommend you to change banks often current account. I fell into this trap of changing banks every now and again to get introductory cashback offers and it took a real hit on my credit score. The longer you stay with your bank the better it reflects in your credit history. Savings accounts are different though and you should shop around to find the best interest rates plus they only do a soft credit check for this.

Little tip from me: Don't buy ballpoint pens! There are so many places where you can get those for free and even though there might be a logo or something on it, you still have a ballpoint pen. I never bought ballpoint pens in my entire life and have quite a collection of them, so try that if you like writing with ballpoint pens. Great video, by the way:)

Buying rice in bulk is immediately zero/low waste because the factories packing it into the small bags/boxes also buy those bulk bags. So you might just skip that step.
@carrieh24093 жыл бұрын
Very good point, that’s what we’ve taken to doing now on a regular basis (so hard to pass by the bins of bulk candy, argh!) but if you do buy the smaller rice bags, you can reuse them as funky lunch bags! They last ages and people always comment on them!

There are loads of lovely ideas in this excellent video, but I was surprised to see you advocating changing banks to get a higher rate of interest. Where is that interest coming from? How ethical are the bank’s investments? What is their carbon footprint? Ethical banking takes a little more effort, but it’s worth it. Otherwise you’re negating some of the good work you do in daily life.

I find that oat milk is very.. thick and pasty? Not sure the word. Sticky, gloopy, when I stick a spoon in it it runs off the spoon very thick. And when I add water to it, it ends up being so thin it’s not milk anymore. It’s also gritty. Any suggestions? I love almond milk but that can be a little pricey
