How to load a Ricoh Auto-Half film camera

Hi! I just got a ricoh autohalf E to play around with from my grandma- on mine, the foam light seal has definitely seen better days- I noticed on yours is has also crumbed off a bit. Mine definitely looks more deteriorated than yours but was wondering if the photos still come out okay? Or should I look at fixing and replacing it? Thanks!

Yea. I haven't had any light leaks with mine. I don't think it's a huge deal for this particular camera. The way that the back door wraps around the camera is so big, that it makes it much harder for light to get in. That said, it's obviously possible. My best suggestion would be to shoot a roll or two. If it's a problem, fix it. If not, don't.

These were pretty common in their day, particularly as in the US they were rebranded as an Ansco model and sold in drugstores, camera shops, etc. Among half frame cameras, they rely on the spring wind film advance to attract buyers. They are only so-so durable, and optical quality is average. Joe's camera is showing its light blocking foam inside turning to goo; better remove and replace that before it finally melts. To the best of my memory, the only other half frame model using the spring wind idea was the Canon Dial, a camera which has its own well deserved claim on "funky". However the Dial is, in comparison, solidly built and has a superb lens, as do all of the other Canon half frame models from this age. Of course, they cost a .lot more than the Ricoh/Ansco Half, both new and now. Got to love another blast from the past.

How to set iso? for example if I insert iso400 film? how to use those selectors on the top?

Yup. Exactly. Just rotate the nob on the top to the desired ISO. That said, I think mine only lets you set it to 100-400 (this is just from memory). So there aren't a ton of options.

I noticed there was a lever on the front. What does that do? Also, I've seen some on ebay that don't have that lever.
