I will probably never have an opportunity to load a camera like this, but now I know how to do it, just in case!

Almost like loading a 35mm projector.

I am assuming that in real world operation, the part used to engage on camera is compromised, right? Cause the light can damage the negative.

@@cclg Yeah. The first few feet of film are sacrificial as threading the camera in the dark would be incredibly difficult.

In order to load a Panavision 70, first stretch 4 feet of film out from the magazine, which is about the same length as a can of 35mm camera film.

I've always wondered how these are loaded... as a kid I had an 8mm film camera, so this is almost the same as loading the developed film on a projector. Considering how expensive film is and how much money production cost is per minute, I'd hate to be the one that makes a mistake loading the film lol

Not a great capture. Wide open with a shallow dof?! Why? You can't see most of what's important. And the angle is bad.
@jjho8
@jjho8 7 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct, there was no need for the depth of field to be as shallow as it is, especially since the video is just supposed to show loading a camera. And totally agree on that angle, freaking move so we're not so parallel to the damn camera and can actually see inside of it! Almost pointless to watch this as is! I'm sure the person filming just wanted to get his shallow depth of field fetish on without thinking about the point of the video.

Yep! I want to jump in there and agree with you as well. I was a complete idiot back then and still am to be honest. But at least now I can look back and cringe over my dumb ass choices. Not just in filmmaking but with my stupid insignificant life in general. I thought of taking this video down countless times. But figured might as well leave it up. It’s a good reminder for how much of an idiot I was, and to an extent still am.

with a due respect sir this is a video about threading the camera. Loading the magazine would be a proper video to the title. Unless you change the title to threading the camera

Panavison film cameras are not for sale. Only for rental. They don't produce any cameras anymore. They just rent out equipment. That's it.

Yep my dumb ass was stupidly obsessed with that shallow depth of field. What a complete idiot, I apologize for that wish I could slap some sense into my past self. Heck I’m still an idiot. But at least I stopped doing cinematography, realized I just wasn’t very good at it. Not good at much to be honest. But back then in film school, felt I was meant to do something. Now I can look back and laugh at the idiot I was. And apologize to people for this haha.

Yeah agreed. Was such a piece of shit back when I shot this. Overly obsessed with fuckin shallow depth of field. Nutted to it to often and obnoxiously shot everything wide open. I was a fucking idiot. You are absolutely right with your comment. Honestly I probably should just take this video down. But heck it’s an old shitty thing I shot. Might as well leave it up. It’s a nice reminder about how terrible I am and why I stopped doing cinematography haha.
