So helpful! I always look back to this video when I am loading my Yashica camera after I haven’t used it for a while! Thank you so much!

Thanks, mate. I still have a Yashica similar to this model that was given to me upon graduation from college 50 years ago. I got some film but realized I had forgotten how to load it. (It used to be second nature.) Now I feel confident I can do it. I always enjoyed shooting pictures with this little 2 1/4 format camera.

Last week I purchased a Yashica 635. It is a well-engineered camera. However, I also have a Yashica Mat EM and it does load 120 film slightly different. Ben, thank you for having the patience to load the film and trying your best to make certain that the viewer can capture the necessary steps. I enjoyed the video.

I have loaded TLRs thousands of times, which is why I now can't remember how to do it. Therefore such a useful video for me. On getting that paper tape off, try ripping it with the thumb nail from the side. Fuji used to leave a little flange sticking out, which made it dead easy to get that tape off.
@vintagetechmall5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! Glad you found this useful.
@johnfurlong78604 жыл бұрын
I usually put the new roll of film into the camera FIRST before trying to open the seal. That way you can reduce the chance of light leaks as the roll is partly shielded within the camera. The roll is also held securely and so you can concentrate your efforts on removing the seal without having to hold the roll in one hand while trying to unpick the seal with your other hand ! This works with most 120 roll film cameras. Yes, you're right Fuji film was great for this and they also provided sticky tape at the end of the roll so it was dead easy to re-seal the roll when it's been exposed. Most other films require you to lick the tape - and some tapes taste HORRIBLE !! :0)

Hello Ben, I often wondered how you would keep from skipping a frame if you some how did not see the next number roll around ! Now I know ! Very good & Informative video ! ~ Roger
@vintagetechmall6 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that, Roger :-) Yeah these TLRs can be a bit tricky, the next TLR I will be talking about is the Zeiss Ikoflex. That one is even more complicated to load. Cheers!
@randallstewart1755 жыл бұрын
The short answer: you don't. It's a cheap design with no double exposure or skipped frame prevention. The 635n is one of Yashica's earliest, and poorest, designed. Yashicas made starting with the Yashicamat models have full advance protection and auto-shutter cocking.

I just thought I'd let people know that you shouldn't EVER change the shutter speed after you cocked the shutter as it will almost certainly damage the shutter. It says this in the manual, and it is the usual advice for any camera with a shutter that is cocked separately. Also, before loading 120 film, make sure the 35mm Rewind Release button (the button with "R" on it below the 35mm wind on knob on the left side of the camera) is all the way into it's original position. The self-timer on most old cameras is rather unreliable and may break the the camera.

When the film is done and you wind it all on to the top spool, will the film get ruined when you open the back? It’s not wound into a canister? Or do you have to unload it in a dark room? And you save the previous spool for the next roll?
@vintagetechmall Жыл бұрын
It is recommended that you unload the film in the shade, not necessarily in a dark room. Also, have some scotch tape handy to tape up the lead so it does not unroll. Once you have done this, store in a dark place like a bag. Hope this helps.

Hi! Thank you so much for making this video so easy to understand! 😊 I was wondering how you set the ASA based on the film you’re using? :o
@vintagetechmall3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The ASA is set using the dial around the shutter button seen at 11:17. However, this actually has no effect on the image as this camera does not have a build-in light meter. It is only there to help you remember what ASA/ISO the loaded film is when trying to set exposure using an external light meter.
@deannedychinco2973 жыл бұрын
Oh I see that makes sense now!! Thank you so much for answering my question! 😊

Is that a hotshoe on the left side?
@razvanux5 жыл бұрын
Very nice tutorial .Can you please tell us how can we setup the iso of the film ?
@vintagetechmall5 жыл бұрын
Use the ASA/DIN dial on the film advance nob to set the ISO. However, please note that changing the ISO on this camera does nothing to the image since the camera does not have a lightmeter built in. It is simply to remind you of what film is loaded in to help you when using an external lightmeter. For this camera, you basically control the ISO by the choice of film you put in there. You can also adjust the shutter speeds and aperture to determine the exposure.

@vintagetechmall4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subbing! Glad you found this helpful. I develop my own film. It is quite economical to do it yourself and not too difficult. One developing kit (about $50 CAD) can develop in excess of 40 rolls from my experience for color film.

Hello , I want to ask 1 question。 my yashica 635 counter can’t resets to "S". How can reset to “s”? thank you
@vintagetechmall4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, that is peculiar one. From the little research I did, it looks like it may need some cleaning and lubrication. You could do it professionally, or look up disassembly instructions if you are the handy kind and brave 😉. If it does not affect the shooting then I wouldn't worry too much about it. The camera will let you know when it is out of film. Good luck!
@227818944 жыл бұрын
@@vintagetechmall Thank you,but i dont know how to know is it the next film.... maybe will have some overlapping.....
@vintagetechmall4 жыл бұрын
True. One trick I use to avoid multiple exposure is to train yourself to only advance the film just before shooting. Never advance after you take your shot.

My uncle game me a 635 in 1969. A piece for the 35mm winder was missing. It was the piece that went from the winding knob of the camera body to the cassette. I made my own from a coffee can and a pair of tin snips. It worked fine. Necessity is the mother of invention! I was only 15 at the time so I was not intimidated in doing this!

Nvm i already fixed it, for those who have similar problem you can try to check your bottom plate (minolta hi matic series) the gear may misaligned and needs to be repositioned to proper position check your film advance and shutter gently

First of all, it is always recommended to use a professional to do cleaning and servicing for these precise equipment. If you are daring and not afraid to damage your camera beyond repairs, there are a few videos on youtube that can guide you on how to do this, if you have the right tools, such as this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZK7aWiJe6uKn6c. As this is not my area of expertise, I would strongly suggest you take it in for servicing. There are likely other issues, such as a slow shutter speed which can be resolved as well.
